I am wondering how many of us always have a deck that we're carrying along? I am also wondering how to accomplish this! I would like to carry a deck with me (maybe in my purse) but my purse is SOOOO heavy already, I just don't think my back and shoulder would appreciate it. I've tried some of the "mini" decks (Hanson Roberts and Fairy Tarot) but they just don't seem right. In the spring and summer, it's not a problem, because I carry a big tote bag along for baseball games and practices (my son is a first baseman). I just don't know, maybe there are some ideas out there waiting to be shared! :) I've tried to lighten the contents of my purse, and I just can't part with any of the junk I carry around. I envy those who just have a tiny purse and don't need a whole lot of paraphernalia!

I carry the miniature Rider-Waite deck in a leather case. I may use it for a reading and visualize what the Osho or Robyn Wood card is in each position, or use the RW image as is.
My bag isn't so heavy, so I always include the deck.

I always carry a deck with me.
Jeanette you have to let go of the past articles to make room for new. Your hanging onto the past. Is there not something you have that you only use every 2-3 months that you can part with?
Just an idea. If there's a will , there's a way!

I had to switch to a bigger-sized tote bag to accomadate my cards... but at times when I just don't want to bring a bag out or the bag is just too full, I just bring two cards protected in plastic holder in my wallet. I always bring two cards out - cards from my daily readings. There are places I go on weekends that I don't think my tarot cards want to go, Lol... Don't really want them reeking of smoke or anything >.<

Hi,
I am always in my car going here or there. SO what I did for a while is cary a Universal Tarot deck in my glove compartment. (the one on the dash..) in one of my cotton bags..
I just ordered the mini hanson roberts..so that will be going in the purse. I'll let you know if the size feels funny..
Blessings,
CJ

Thoth
Rider Waite
But I prefer
Universal Tarot (Lo Scarabeo) in tiny silk cellphone bag and small softcover Pictorial Key to Tarot in cotton bookcover under the seat of my car.
Classical Tarot (Il Menghello mini version) or Di Gumppenberg 1845 or
Dotti, Il Menghello version, smaller size
Sometimes the above or a smaller Asian tarots that fit in a small silky cosmetic bag in a zipper. I only carry one at a time.
Best wishes,
Mari

since the subject of the Mini-tarot came up... I know this bookstore in Singapore which sells a few of them but I've never laid eyes on a mini-tarot before. How... well, mini are they? can anyone kindly provide measurements of a mini-tarot? Thanks in advance!

Vynara,
I can help with some of them.
The miniature Riders are apx 6.5 cm x 3.5 cm.
The Mini Hanson Roberts from Tarot to Go Kit is apx 8.5cm x 5 cm. The tiny Universal Waite 3.5cm x 2cm.

I carry a work bag as well as a purse... if I had only the basics in my purse I might could fit a deck in there... but I usually carry that in my work bag.

i don't carry a purse (i'm a minimalist when it comes to having a purse or anything like that)...so I tend to leave the cards at home, but when I'm travelling where i know i won't have to be back home overnight or away for several nights, i tend to put my cards in the front pocket of my backpack (still keeping my hands free)...
I'd like to have a "satchet" (i think i mispelled that word)...like i'd see some people carry, the shoulder strap on the other side while the bag is on the hip on opposite side... but i hate feeling weighted down, though..so i.e., no purse...

I'd also like to do this but my purse is much too small :)
I suppose I should look into a mini...
Oh dear here we go again.

When I started to take the Morgan Greer out with me I swopped to a slightly larger handbag and took some things out that I just didn't need in there, the Morgan Greer seems to be a very light deck and you wouldn't even know it was it there.

I dont like carrying purses around, they just get in the way! However I carry one specifically for my tarot cards. But only if I know Im going somewhere where they can be used. I actually prefer the mini-backpacks over a purse. There ya go...get a mini backpack...that should be enough room for all your stuff and a deck of cards.

Since I got them for Christmas, I keep the Tiny Universal RWS in my backpack all the time. I love that it comes in a plastic case.
I don't carry one in my "normal" purse, but when we're going out of town I will put the deck I'm using most, in its special bag, in a tote bag (car trips) or carry on (airplane). Next time we travel I'll find a small water-tight plastic container to put them in also; sometimes I carry shampoo or suntan lotion in those bags.

I won't take my deck with me unless I know I need to (ie. going to do a reading for someone outside of my home). Too much bad energy in the work place!! I would never take them there! I do take my cards with me when I travel for weeks at a time.

Well, I want to thank you all for your replies and suggestions; since I've already cleaned out my purse and gotten rid of all the extra junk (and it's still VERY HEAVY) I guess I'll just either have to squeeze the deck in or leave it in the car. I've considered a backpack, but I don't think I'd be comfortable with one; I would be worried somebody could come up from behind and help themselves to valuables inside without my knowing it. :( My family teases me about the weight of my handbag, but who do they turn to when they need a band-aid, or tissue, or cough drop (or any other item I invariably have in there)?? I guess it's the price you pay for preparedness. But the car glove compartment idea sounds promising, I'll have to give it a try!

Jeannette,
I have used a backpack as a purse since college in the mid-80's--before it was "in"--and there's just no going back to a standard "girl" purse for me (I've tried).
There's no worry of invasion when you have the pack on your back, believe me...and the room for a deck, or even two, is abundant.
Anyway, I encourage you to give it another consideration...
As one who could not adjust to a mini-deck (it turns out that I'm too loyal to my favorite tarot decks to carry a seperate portable model), I have found the backpack-as-purse choice to be especially helpful with the issue of the traveling deck.
:)

Hey Tauni, I do the same thing :) I've taken to keeping my spiral tarot in my backpack all the time, and it seems to work pretty well.
Jeanette, I have a habit of carrying everything around with me, which is why backbacks are wonderful. Still, I guess those are cumbersome for those who aren't in school. But I love keeping a deck on me, because I find its presence somehow comforting, even as I face the mundane nature of another school day...

I carry a mini RW with me in my purse. I have *just* enough room for it, between my notebook for clinicals, my cell, my datebook, and checkbooks. >.<
I don't use it, but somehow, tis nice to know its there.

I take at least one deck of cards with me everywhere. And I usually have about six or seven with me  I use a burgundy sewing basket for my purse. I'm a bit quirky like that! If you're ever in Michigan and see someone decked out in head to toe velvet and a black wool cloak with grey hood carrying a burgundy sewing basket that's me!

I carry the symbolism in my head and visualize. It is a kind of meditation for me.
Mind you, one does not drive a car when doing alot of that too.
