Yay!
My daughter has just allowed me to give her a Tarot deck. Yesterday she stopped by for a visit and as we were talking I decided she was finally ready. She has always maintained that she did not want "those" in her house and that they "freaked her out".
But yesterday something in her manner suggested she wasn't so freaked out. (we weren't even talking about Tarot) but I could just sense that she had reached a stage in her life where she is ready.
Maybe it was the talk we had a few days ago about how I have changed over the years, that changed her mind.
So I got up from the table and went to my tarot drawer and picked out the same deck that I had just given my niece. Sharman-Burke, I told Sarah that it is a gentle deck, with no harsh images and the book is very easy to understand. I have a couple of decks that she will just not look at.
She just looked at me and smiled, and started sifting throught the cards.
I felt like I did when she walked for the first time. :D

Aw Majecot - what a lovely post! I'm glad your daughter came around to Tarot, and hope she'll find great riches there. The Sharman-Burke set is a lovely gentle deck and the book is very clear. Who knows, maybe we'll see (or is it hear?) her on Aeclectic some day soon.
blessings,
Kate

A beautiful post indeed, and a touching tribute to a woman who raised her child well.
I hope I do so well myself, thank you for the inspiration Majecot~! :D

Majecot, I'm really pleased for you both. I can see why you are delighted and she is at that very exciting time in Tarot. You know? that time when its all still new and you are bubbling over with enthusiam (I still am btw) and a thirst for knowledge. I hope she enjoys the set. Maybe we will see her on here one day?
Best of luck to you both

That's wonderful, Majecot! I've had a similar conflict with my mother, but lately she's become a lot more understanding. You've motivated me to consider a deck for her next birthday. i've never heard of the sharman-burke deck, so i'll have to look at that. thanks for sharing your experience!

How happy you must be! It is a beautiful gift to do to your daughter, passing to her your tarot tradition. And who know? Maybe this will get you both closer together. :)

Thats Terrific! I wish I could get my mother to read tarot. I got her a native american tarot deck (dont know the exact name of it) and she likes the deck but she never touches them or reads them, she just keeps them on the shelve like a decoration. Oh Well.

My daughter has always let me read her cards, but under slight protest, and has never asked me to do it. She also has never wanted to learn any thing that I do, ie; sewing, crochet, knitting.. that kind of thing, ( but yet she wants me to teach her daughter those things). This is the very first time, so it is very exciting for me.
It's kind of funny, a few days ago she told me she keeps looking at the last reading I did for her, and she has been drawing strength from it. I don't really remember the reading as it was a few months ago, but I am glad that I wrote it down for.
I told her I thought it would help with her meditation exersizes. I feel like my little girl is finally growing up. *sniff sniff*
Aerten- I never know what to call this deck, the book, Beginners Guide to Tarot is by Julia Sharman-Burke, but the Artist is Giovanni Caselli. So maybe it is a Burke-Caselli deck??
And my ulterior motive was for Sarah to have the deck in the first place, I figured I could wait... not as long as I thought I would have to :D

Majecot that is so beautiful.
I have given my own daughter some decks, Art Nouveau, Healing with the Fairies and The Frouds Faerie Oracle.
She was over here tonight and told me she was cleaning things out and giving things away.
I said, "Well if you don't want those decks I gave you don't give them away I can trade them."
She looked at me like I was nuts and said " I would NEVER give my decks away."
What a chip off the old block!

Wonderful of you to share your special moment with us Majecot. You have not only given her a lovely deck (and book), it is my particular favourite, even if it is classed as a "beginner's" deck, it is my 7th deck and the one that I connect with the most. You have also given her a gift of knowledge and insight - that she will learn and growth with.
To share with you, I am a daughter that was given her first deck by her mother about 10 years ago. It was the Native American Tarot, and was really surprised when I opened my present!
My Mum (who was 65 at the time) does not read Tarot, but she knew of my interest in native cultures / mythology (which drew her to that particular deck) and also we have always talked about our common flare for intuition and related stuff. She has also been my number one person to read for over the years and encouraged me to have the confidence to start reading for others a couple of years ago.
My Mum and I have enjoyed many hours together over the tarot, and has usually been with me whenever I buy a new deck ( I even make a point of taking her with me when I go "tarot" shopping now!) - have also shown her around the Aecletic site - which being computer stuff she is not really familiar with but she is excited as I am about the sharing of a common interest and knowledge.
It may sound strange but I know I will always think of my Mum whenever I am doing something with Tarot, as she gave me a truly insightful and wonderful gift that set me on a path that has lead to many other interests that I would not have experienced without that initial start.
