I read somewhere that you can use the numbers to represent time.
Wands as weeks, cups as days, swords as years, etc., or whatever you want. Then you go by the number of the card to find when something will happen. Ie. the six of wands = the even will happen in six weeks.
I don't think that's actually feasible... just something I read.

what I did for timing was I gathered information & put it to the cards so I could understand. When I'm finished a reading I ask do you want a card for a time frame. If yes, the client gets to pick ONE card for a question. I use 1-10 pips & if the Major cards show up I tell them the universe is not telling them at this time & explain what the card means.
I have one lady drew the Ace of Wands a month ago. She came back on this past weekend to tell me 7 days after her reading someone asked her to be a Cival Servant. This for me is affirmation that the timing I choose is correct.
Just pick a way to learn & then work with it. You'll know what works & what doesn't.
Just some extra info.

You can also use the minor arcana to identify an approximate date.
Pull a minor. The suit indicates the season- I use swords for winter, cups for spring, wands for summer, and pentacles for autumn. The number on the card indicates the week. So the three of cups is the third week of spring.
