It's corny question time.

Does superconscious mean our higher self or intuition?

In the cards they tell of our conscious, subconscious & unconscious.I understand all of this. Once in a while I see superconscious. I have looked this up but my dictionary does not have it unless I'm having another off day. lol

Thanks for any replys.

Well, in just taking apart this word itself, conscious from the Latin literally means "with knowing". In a sense, it means to be aware of an existence, which differentiates it from conscience, which, though is similar in meaning "with knowledge," is more in regards to having gained knowledge and making decisions based on the knowledge or wisdom that one has attained.

The word conscious by itself is generally used to mean the awareness one has of himself and his existence: being aware that one is a separate being from others and the awareness one has of the world and how it is working around him. The word subconscious seems to generally refer to that part of his awareness that works below the surface, thus it is "sub" conscious: under his sense of awareness. These are the workings of knowledge that happen still, though a being isn't aware that they are going on, but nevertheless they still influence his reaction to the world.

Unconscious is a word I have most often used with collective, which was Jung's theory that an awareness ran through all humans and influenced their perception of the world, manifested in such things as archetypes. Un is used to mean that it is not part of an individual's awareness, but it was a knowledge that collectivelly exists as a kind of web that unites all conscious beings.

Superconscious is not a word that I have heard used, or if I have, not in enough context for me to define it. Breaking it down, I would see superconscious as an awareness that works above (super) an individual's awareness. In that way, it would most likely link all consciousness to create a consciousness that works above all others, perhaps a deific thing.

I can see how unconscious and superconscious might be interchanged, but if I had my druthers, I would prefer to use superconscious. Unconscious seems to designate a link that is more passive and reactionary, kind of a telecommunication between conscious beings. Superconscious, to me, seems to indicate more of an active awareness, an over conscious that affects the world of the conscious beings.

In fact, superconsciousness, to me, is more of how I see the Great Spirit: God, if you will. Too many Western religions depict God as this aloof being like a father, who is above and separate from us, scolding us, commanding us, punishing us. I like the idea of the overbeing who is a conglomeration of us, our best selves. It explains a lot to me on why existence is how it is, and why silly prayers to God to "do something" for us, or confused pleas of "why me?" make no sense.

Ok, now I feel as if I am rambling and becoming incoherent, so I'll stop. I hope some insight happened in this post. :D

This is the closest i could find, as far as denotations (dictionary meanings) go : SUPEREGO

If you do a Web search for Supraconscious, all kinds of articles come up..... it's a connotation (made up and not yet in dictionary word) for the Universal, above human level, mind.....

Khartruman: Thanks for the masterful explanation!

I use superconscious to refer to the individual soul mind or the higher self; also to the collective unconscious.

ros,
I am VERY glad you posted this, as I recently ran into that same terminology in reference to a three-card spread I wanted to try.
It never occured to me to post an inquiry about it....cool, now I can do that spread!
Good explanations, all....
PEACE,
Tauni
