Dotti magician . . .

I found this picture of a Finnish blacksmith by accident and was struck by the striking similarities between it and the Gummpenberg Dotti Magician, who is depicted as a cobbler. It think this version is more appropriate than a cobbler, unless there is some arcana associate with a cobbler.

It would be nice to work out a new version of the Dotti, using photography (as preparation for the final artwork -- like the attached photo), and fleshing out the final artwork by hand (watercolor).

I'm trying to attach the jpeg again. For some reason it did not attach properly to the initial posting!

First, I found your blacksmith to be charming and the photocollage/watercolor idea is nice.

I had been comparing Dotti's Tarocco to
the Gitani...and I found the dark hair of the Magician fine in my mental pictures..

Magician (Bagatello) first card pictured on left from the Dotti:

And it's probably just me, but I saw the stance and design similar in the Dotti Tarocco to the Gitani--both seem to be produced by the same studio for Dal Negro in Italy. The Magician in the Gitani is on the furtherest right and I may be the only one who is seeing similarities in design or color choices as being 'based' on the Dotti.

But of course your charismatic Finnish blacksmith could be a whole new take on the deck concepts...

Rather I would just use photos a preperation for doing the watercolors. I suppose one could work in Fractal Painter, using the photo as a kind of tracing template, which is fine if one really knows Fractual Painter. I would find fresh, living models for the faces though. The blacksmith looks cool -- more so than that rather ill-tempered looking Italian cobbler.

Sure looks like Brad Pitt . . . horrors, that every image begins to look like some actor!
