It sounds like they were talking about keeping the reader of the cards in good shape. People tend to get dehydrated especially when reading at stores or at conventions (the air systems are very dry, a person that's doing a lot of talking dries out very fast).
Same for food, you have to keep alert to be able to give the best reading you can. Especially when you've been at it for hours. I've done craft shows, you get immensly run down & low energy by the end of the day. Readings are the same, if you're there for several hours doing spreads for people, you forget the time & will feel exhausted by the end of the night.

On a practical level, water keeps you hydrated while you talk. You may also be in dry conditions, such as a warm room, hot weather, air conditioning, which will dry you out.
On other levels: water is an excellent conductor of energy, so it's a good idea to keep plenty of water in the body at all times. Try not drinking water for a few hours and feel your energy levels drop.

i read that using droplets of water on paper, and gazing into them, one can receive additional information on problems. but it could be just fantasy...
