I was just wondering how many males are actually here? I understand that there is that stereotype of all tarot readers being female, but how many of you are males?

There are a lot of males on here. I like male readers...I tend to get along better with males for some reason so I feel like I really connect with them. Ive only gotten a reading 2 males in my lifetime and they were probably the best 2 readings Ive ever had.

The only 2 real life tarot readers i know are both male (appart from my mummy who is a woman :P). Course i'm just lacking in confidence generally to ask a for a reading from any of them lol. Felt really cheeky taking up an offer for a valentines reading from Indigo Rose!

There you go again Dark_Angel....
How are we supposed to get any readings done around here if you keep making us all puff out our chests and act all studly.....

My first experience with tarot was a reading from a guy at a Renaissance Faire when I was a teen. He was patient and kind and I didn't think it at all odd to be gettiing a tarot reading from a male.

Hi,
My husband reads some but he's not a member of AT. I've seen quite a few readers here that are male as well as in other tarot groups. We have several male friends who read as well.
Joy to you,

I wonder, does a male reading come out differently from a female reading?
Obviously, we all read differently, but, in general, is there a male/female difference/bias in reading?

I'm a male too.
There was a thread like this not too long ago, I think. I was really surprised back then to see that so few male readers were on this forum -- I'm just glad that you can now see the gender on the profiles, otherwise it would be really confusing...

There are a good many male readers but I would suspect the majority are female. I am male and there are three of us in our little Tarot Circle.
Professionally, most of the local readers that I see in the New Age shops are female although there are a couple of male readers -one who is prominent.
I am trying to remember my last visit to Jackson Square in NO but cannot recall any ratio. My fiancee had her's done by a male but he was awful. I had mine done by a male reader once a few year's ago and I wasn't impressed by him as well.
Finally, we were in Salem last October with the rest of the amateurs, hehe. There were many shops offering readings and I cannot recall any male readers.
Happiness - I am not so sure a reading from a male would be all that different than from a female. I think it would depend on how in touch the male is with the female psyche. I just think the reading depends on how good the reader is, period. I could be wrong in that. I don't consider myself a very gifted reader but I am early in my process.

Hiya,
I confess - I'm male! ;)
One of the benefits that I have gained since getting interested in Tarot, is that I've learned to see "around" issues a lot more, and also to look further into myself - so I suppose this must include what is typically termed my "feminine" side. Given that I believe all such labels are essentially meaningless, I guess my view is that there should be no real difference between a male and female reader...at least on a fundamental level. Much more fun is the difference between "individuals" and what they and their life stories/experience bring to a reading...
Perhaps this means that I've reached the "World" level already - but I doubt it!!! ;)

I wouldn't think that a man would need to be in touch with his "feminine side" to be a good tarot reader, just his spiritual self.
I don't know any male readers ( except for you guys here) but I don't think gender really has anything to do with ability.

perhaps it is simply more of a (stereotypically speaking, at least) feminine nature/tendancy to crave spiritual introspection? hmm, i don't know, just a thought. most of the males that i've spoken to about tarot kind of blow it off and tease about that "meditation mumbo-jumbo"... the girls, on the other hand, are much more eager to listen :)
just a casual observation. anyone else notice this too?

Society I think, makes it more acceptable for women to delve into tarot and astrology b/c they are viewed by the mainstream as psuedo-sciences at best.
I don't think gender has anything to do w/ability to read tarot.

Agree with Isthmus Nekoi.
Gender not a criteria where reading ability is concerned but the individual. Some of the best readers I have encountered are male, & at AT.

I think its great that men do tarot. Most men that I have met are not very in touch with their spiritual/subconcious/creative/whatever side and it really does keep a good balance - I guess it goes back to the yin yang thingy!

Hi all,
Outside of Aeclectic, all the readers I know are male. But, I don't think gender matters in a reading. If someone does a poll, please make sure to include more options than just male/female. There are hermaphrodites, androgenous beings, transgender persons, etc., etc. Isn't the world a wonderfully diverse place!

Oddly enough, whenever tarot readers call in here to the studio, they are nearly always male. Either this means that it's only men that are brave enough to bang on the door here, or only male tarot readers travel to Prague or, or... well I don't know. I would think really it's just coincidence. But it means I've probably met more male than female readers here.
Even one rare woman that called in was buying for her uncle who reads!

Just Kidding. ;) I'm the grrl in the tarot group Bacchus mentioned. My coworkers often ask me who's in my tarot group. I say, "Two others guys." And they say, "Really?" and I say, "Yeah, isn't that cool?!"
I think a persons reading style depends on their personality. It seems different personality types bring through different types of readings.

I am a gay man trapped inside a woman's body....does that count?
:D
I have had four professional readings in my life, and three of them were from men.
Two were gay, older and married.
The other man was in his early thirties, "straight," also married.
I also seem to befriend gay male tarot enthusiasts at bookstores, but I have no idea what is up with that!
Anyway....
Here where I live, at least, it seems that the ratio of male-to-female readers is even, such as in new age shops.
A wise shop owner might do that on purpose.

The guy is Yuri Knorozov (1922-99) who was (apparently) chiefly responsible for the decipherment of the Mayan script. Bright guy! But the topic reminded me of the sort of tests to distinguish chracteristically male "brains" from female ones. I found this link:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/news/page/0,12983,937443,00.html
The test is in two bits (links) giving an Empathy quotient and a Systemizing quotient. I scored 51 on the Empathy, beating both average males and (just) average females. (I knew my brain was quite female) On the latter, I get a whopping 57! This latter is characteristic of people with e.g. mild Aspergers syndrome. I'm unsurprised - there's a lot of that tendancy in my line of work, where it's neither a disadvantage or indeed uncommon? :D
Obsessive? Nah! Now what did I do with my (bedtime) reading... of Liber 777?!? })

P.S. I have a Female friend who (ISTR) tested for a 98% male brain! Mind you, she is a civil engineer - think BIG holes and bridges! And you wouldn't catch me doing that... ;)

Hello, I am male but you know what? at the beggining had doubts if a male can read Tarot, because ALL the readers I have seen in my life (real life, TV, books, etc) are female!
Any woman is more intuitive than any man, so men can read Tarot but requires extra effort, I like the challenges so here I am :)
I tought male readers could be good advisors mainly on career matters but I have been asked on relationships 70% of the times from women, so I guess a male point of view doesn't hurt.

I'm male and I find my intuition to be one of my strongest talents. I do have trouble trusting it, though, and using it in my life because I pride myself on being a logical person and intuition is "not logical". Perhaps not trusting one's intuition is more common in males (rather than not having it)?
Also, I'd post my pic, but then I'd disappoint all the ladies in the Grannies Tarot Trunk and Answering Questions with Questions threads in the Games forum. They'd find out I look nothing like Brad Pitt!

COME ON SONGDEVA, WHY DON'T YOU GET THIS STARTED? :D I'm sorry to rain on the parade, but non-Tarot material, such as a picture thread, is not appropriate to this Forum. Solandia has very clearly stated how she wishes to organize this website. This is intended to keep the material well indexed, so those browsing the site for *Tarot material* will not have to wade through other non-Tarot threads. This thread already toes the line. ;)
There are several picture threads that are part of the Chat forum, because the Chat forum is designed for discussion for topics that are non-Tarot. :)
Subscribers have access to the Chat forum, as well as the Spirituality, Competitions, and member Extras, such as Thirteen's e-book, and other goodies.
There are occassionally opportunities for gifted subscriberships as well. Anyone interested should contact Solandia for info there too! :D
