Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone finds it harder to read for a querent when on the first day or so of your period?
The reason I ask is because the first day of my moon cycle varies from month to month. Eventually I'll be seeing clients professionally and it will be hard for me to schedule around this.
I've never read for anybody during the time mentioned above, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be harder (for me).
What have your experiences been?
Thanks

The only real problems I have during my menstural cycle is the overwhelming cramps and discomfort. Taking Midol usually helps with this. I've never really read while on my period, so I don't know how this affects my state of mind, or the energy.

Jen I am so glad someone asked this question.
I read professionally and the way the fairs are set up it often falls on the first days of my moon cycle.
I find that the first two days of my period my energy is very low.
And if I have a choice I don't do readings.
I also don't drink alcohol the day before I read.
Both of these things seem to affect my intuition level.
These are things I've noticed over the years, and if I pay attention to them my readings are so much better.

If you want the pure, unbridled, unadorned truth, without any fancy dressing ... ask me to read during my period

I find it harder a couple of days before, on the day and after I find a very liberating experience and one where my 'psychic' is really attuned :) XTAX
Get a reading from me on that day ;)

Yes, thank you for asking this question -- I don't feel alone now.
For me it's not the period that's hard but the ten days before. PMS is like a constant white noise in my head that either blocks or skews everything. Once my period starts, the noise stops and everything settles back into place.
I just figured out how to describe it. If you've ever seen the movie "Dumb and Dumber," there's a scene where Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are driving across country in the doggy van and they've picked up a hitchhiker who is actually a hit man after them. He's sitting wedged between Harry & Lloyd in the front seat and one of the guys turns to him and says, "Do you know what the most annoying sound in the whole world is? NGHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
That is what reading during PMS is like for me.

I've never really thought about it actually, but now I come to think of it I don't think the time of my cycle makes any difference to how I read.
But it does depend on the querent... If, for instance, a friend comes to me who is one of those querents with selective hearing, or somebody who is just plain rude throughout the reading, PMS starts to speak for me... }) This only happens if I know the querent well though! For other people I'm fine.

LMAO......if you ask me, those readings are the best kind!
I feel bad now. (Not really) Those are the only readings I give regardless of the time of month. :D

Makes absolutely no difference to me.
The best advice I ever got on how to read was something along the lines of "when you read for someone, you no longer exist. You forget about yourself. Once the client leaves, you forget about the client and the reading - until the next time you see them."
One owes it to the querent not to let our own lives get mixed up in theirs. It would just not be correct.

Diana,
I think what you're saying has truth in it. But since I'm not a Zen Master - I guess I'll have to work on that one. ;)

"Moon Cycle"
From now on that will be my term for "that time of the month"
I love it !!!!!!
I cant focus on anything during that time. I find it hard to function at all on any level. So really I dont think you are alone in that at all Jen.

I am really embarrassed !!!!
I just posted a reply in another thread.
So here I go in the proper place....... i hope
Jen, I feel during that time of the month, I cant focus on anything. I try to stay clear of anything that would require much from my inner self. "moon Cyle" if that is the term you refer to "that time of the month" I love it !!!!!

I can't read at all when I'm on my moontime.
I can barely read a book, even...have to stick to magazines and children's stories.
So, my answer is no, I can't read on my moontime.
I had two readings to do this weekend and couldn't focus, had no energy, etc. at all to do them.

--Sort of reminds me of playing my violin in the little quartet we used to have here--if I wanted to stand out & be heard, that was the surest way going to destroy the integrity of the music as a whole. What WORKED was to focus on making my playing invisible/inaudible, to try not to be heard (while still playing the notes as written . . . ) Not just to pretend but actually to believe that I personally, as an individual voice, at that moment & in that place, did not exist . . . :)

Well, I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago at age 38, but kept my ovaries. So, I still experience a sort of "cycle" but the effects are diminished. And unless I really took the time and paid extremely close attention to my body rhythms, I don't know when things are happening. Which is OK. However, I do get a little crazier than usual from time to time, and it's usually around the full moon, so I just figure that's what my cycle must be (if it's even still regular). And even though I don't get the full "whammy" I used to get before the surgery, I still find it hard to focus on certain things that require more attention that others, things that can't be accomplished on "auto-pilot." My best advice to try and minimize the PMS effects and moon-time ordeals is to eat lots of fresh fruits & veggies, drink water, no caffeine and/or alcohol, and watch the salt and sugar. plenty of rest, some exercise ~ the usual advice for good health! Listen to your body and try and work around it the best you can. Just being aware of the situation is half the problem.

I don't really see the difference. Maybe because I ever thought it might affect my work with cards. But that's a very good thread. I believe, knowing myself, I will keep a close look on everything during the cycle now.

Isn't it true that a lot of people make a special point of reading for themselves on the first day of their period?? --I don't do it, because as a general rule I'm feeling too sick; but it is traditional, isn't it? --I mean, in Wiccan etc. books I've read that the time immediately surrounding the first day of menstruation is a time of heightened psychic sensitivity . . . etc. etc. . . . right?? --Anyway, although I don't actually follow through on it, the idea does sort of make me feel better about my period (if I have to get sick, I may as well feel 'special' too :) )

I have been really very aware of my cycles (whether they are Moon or otherwise) for the last couple of years.
Something that I have discovered, for me, is that it is very difficult about two days before the cycle begins. Difficult to concentrate, difficult to find words, difficult to communicate, or read cards, low energy and just a blah, weepy feeling.
Then, on that first day...Iam HUGELY intuitive! It's like everything opens up with the flow. I find myself tuned in, maybe even a bit more psychic , than any other time of the month.
It usually only lasts through that first day...although sometimes, I can feel like this for two days.
Physically, I feel pretty awful during this time...but spiritually, and emotionally? Ah...definately enhanced.

I love how the male readers aren't even coming near this thread
I've actually never noticed a problem. But then again, I've never expected there to be one so if there was, I probably just wasn't paying attention to the association.
Aside from tarot, I never used to get PMS, but now I tend to get it something fierce :D
I also love the term "moon cycle" and am trying to remember that. I just keep thinking if I say that out loud people will look at me weird and not know what I'm talking about haha...

I'm with you on the pms thing Chronata--weepiness & worry are almost like a palpable weight, or poison in the atmosphere during the days leading up to my period--very physical & incontestible, & hard to deal with (the world is coming to an end) but the moment period arrives, it's incredible how quickly all this just vanishes . . . everything is fine again, & I wonder what all the fuss was about. & in spite of feeling sick, I do notice that from an athletic standpoint my body functions really well on that first day. I suppose in a holistic sense maybe this is why divination works at this point (or is supposed to . . . ) --All that negativity has just been, or is in the process of being, flushed right out, which leaves a clean & receptive person . . .
does that make any sense at all??

I've read for myself on the first couple of days of a period but I don't think I've ever read for anyone else. I get pretty grumpy and impatient on the first couple of days so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to read for others then but I don't think my readings change for myself.
When I'm aching and feeling sorry for myself I find it pretty relaxing just to sit with a deck and have a good shuffle. And usually end up reading the cards that fall out or I take a couple out. It has to be with a small easy to handle deck though lol - I couldn't be bothered to try and manhandle a large deck (wouldn't have the patience for it :D )

Hi Jen,
I've never really noticed any difference in readings during mine but everyone is different. All you can do is do the best you can and that should be more than enough. :-)
Joy to you,
Maralee
