Hello all,
I am a beginer to Tarots. I started practicing it early last year. But about a few months into my study, many people have asked me to stop reading tarots because this practice would give me bad luck or use up my good energy since I have given out secrets about people's lives. So, I haven't touched my decks and tarot book for a long time. But I am still fascinated by the power of tarots and want to pick up my study again. However, what people have told me last year is still bothering me.
so can someone help me? Thank you in advance.

You've probably noticed that the people who TELL you all this don't actually read tarot themselves. There's a lot of misconceptions about tarot, nearly all of it heresay, and people just love to pass along what they think no matter if it's right or wrong. You're getting all the fears of others, but not making up your own mind about it yourself. Without that, you're at the whims of everyone else.
Tarot does not go against religion (any religion) as a subversive element. It's a tool to connect to what's inside you, for the purpose of enlightenment. What you do with it depends on what you're able to see or connect with. You can't run out of 'good energy' because that's always being replenished. I've never known 'bad luck' to follow tarot in any way. If it was so terrible, there wouldn't be over 2,000 different decks on the market, now, would it?
Put your mind at ease. Tarot is a tool, nothing more. If you let myth and conjecture rule your opinion you probably won't read again, but since your own subconscious is rebelling against what you've been told by non-readers, listen to that & keep a clear mind about what tarot is and is not.
Be guilt free.

But in my opinion, if you are helping people with your readings are you not doing a good thing?
If they told you to stop giving money or your time to charity because you will run out would that make sense?
I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what the masses say about tarot. If the masses were into tarot and understood it, it wouldn't be so special.
The next thing you know people will say that tarot cards are evil and people that use them are too.....

Well, if I were you I'd tell them to worry about their own darn energy :) Do you think the tarot would bring you bad luck? It seems as though helping people would bring you more 'good energy' than make you lose it! The thing with tarot is, ya gotta go with your gut feelings. If you doubt that you should be using it, you aren't going to be able to connect to them as well! But if you look around these boards, no one seems to have those problems here... I think your friends might be a little superstitious :P

since I have given out secrets about people's lives.
Could you explain what you think this accusation means? If you are reading for a person and only speaking to them about what you see, then the communication stays between the two of you and you're not giving out secrets.

Hi, jean....
Well, what you've been told is just plain silly.
How can someone who believes in bad luck proceed to discount such a logical thing as tarot? ;)
I say go your own way.
You will find, as you proceed down the Royal Road, that you are The Fool, often walking alone--but never lonely, because you will have the cards with you (and that pesky creature nipping at your heels), and then there's us here on AT, of course....
Welcome back!

Welcome back to tarot.
I believe that people can make their own luck, so by studying tarot, surely your luck will improve, as you become more aware of yourself and your place in the universe, and you will also experience the happiness of genuinely helping people who come to you for readings.
When a person is wheeled into hospital, they may not actually want help, merely patching up and letting out; people who make the effort of asking for a reading are interested in helping themselces, which makes tarot reading so rewarding for me.
My advice is to ignore these rumours and just do what you want to do.

Has anyone ever noticed that these same non-readers who tell you that tarot is wrong are the same people who ask you to give them a reading when they feel that their life is in dissarray?
When people tell you these silly opionions...just say "thanks for the opinion" and then put the rumor away.

Thank you all for the great suggestions and comment. I apologize if I have offended any of you in regards to the comment that I received from my family and friends. In the enviornment in which none of my friends and family practice tarot (or none that I know of), it is really difficult to be the "pioneer" in my group, sort of speak.
One perspective of reading tarot that I like is the ability to help people clearing the cloud above their heads.
thank you all once again. See you later in the forum.
