I won an auction on e-bay where i had the opportunity to get a brand new Haindl tarot deck (and the 2 accompaning books) for cheap! I was so excited, as this is one deck I've had on my wishlist...then I got the dreaded e-mail...there was a fire, and this deck along with others were lost....have any of you had a disappointment???

hey yve..
I'm sorry to hear that. I have had disappointments before.. many. Not quite like this though. I do hope that you find the deck and books again at fairly cheap prices.

Yve,
Sort of (same household and I had to listen to him vent his dissappointment). My s/o collects NASCAR dicasts. He won a long sought after Earnhart car, just before the hurricane and flooding that caused all the damage in the Carolinas. We expected a delay in hearing from the seller because we knew he was in an area that was hit pretty hard. 12 days after the auction ended we finally heard from him. His home had been completely destroyed in the flooding.

Ouch! That's kinda stinky! Maybe there is a reason ..... somewhere ...down the line.... maybe there is something else that's supposed to come into your life and you needed the space for it to come in, if that makes any sense!? Sorry, and good luck in the future. :)

Erm.. I hope you people do know that's it kind of sad on the guys who had their places destroyed?

Yve,
I have had a simlar experience. I won a deck set, paid for it, then bam... there was that email- 'My husband threw them out and burned them" She then went on to say that something along the lines of having saved me from evil.
It is sad if they really did have a fire. (but the computer was saved?) I am a little skeptical. Keep an eye on the seller to see if they list it again.

Yup
Why do I have thoughts along the lines of.... seller forgot to put a reserve.... item sells at a lower than expected price.... ooops.
Guess I'm just naturally suspicious.

not to be cynical bt follow the dealers upcoming auctions and see if he or she posts the deck again.

Actually, the whole place wasn't destroyed, so this person says, just the computer and some other stuff, including this tarot deck...funny, they offered to substitute with a different deck...i thought of the same thing several of you suggested, to follow this dealer... and also to watch for any very similar auctions (same cards and books) under a different dealer name...i hope my feeling isn't correct, it would be sad if someone really did experience a small fire, but it would be even sadder to discover that there are dishonest people out there....

I know in our case the seller was emailing from a relatives home.
Of course you may be right about about the seller wanting more $ for the set...BUT
There could be a logical explaination for the sub offer... you said they mentioned the whole house was not lost? Perhaps they had the decks up for auction piled near the computer from scanning a pic when listed, and had others not listed in another part of the house.
How many of us have a deck or a few decks near the computer while the bulk of our collection is at the other end of the house?
I know that is the case here.

Yes, you may be correct Lady Medusa....i'm sure someone like this seller who has 100% positive feedback wouldn't take a chance on doing something slightly questionable...it's just my luck...go to the store, pick up the only box where the item is broken, but don't discover it till i'm miles away from the store back home...buy a new piece of furniture, and have it delivered damaged...order a meal at a restaurant, and get the only one with a big, long hair in it...buy a box of oranges, and get the only one with a rotten one in the middle even after the clerk has checked them!...Haaa, good thing I have a sense of humor :)
