Here are some excellent lines from Diary of Psychic by Sonia Choquette . Wisdom imparted to her by her late teacher Charlie Goodman who was trained in England in the 1920's .

---------------------------------------------

"You are NOT an entertainer, and to emtertain others with your gifts solely as a means of being the center of attention is a gross violation of your talent and you will suffer for it."

"Your gifts are to serve spirit and God and not EVER, EVER your personal ego. "

"There will be people who flatter you , and just as many , if not more , who condemn you. In either case just ignore them and do your work. "

"You may be picking up something very accurate, and I may not know it. If you need me to verify it , you become dependent on my approval instead of your feeling. "

"Consider feedback as an unnecessary bonus.. It's always pleasant if positive, not so pleasant if it isn't. And you'll soon discover that more times than not , it isn't positive. Let feedback be unimportant , and keep your interest in it to a minimum. Never require it. I assure you it will block you and hold you back."

---------------------------------------------------

Of course, there will be people who disagree about serving spirit and God, and not being an entertainer. But I think he was talking about his own personal feeling on the matter and his own path. Reading for entertainment strictly would not be seen as an exercise of a sacred gift or part of a psychic/spiritual development.

I think when you are a newbie, you need some feedback to see where you are going wrong , but after that you have to let it go. Bugging people to give you feedback after a reading is not part of the contract. If they want to , they will. If they don't , they probably have their own reasons. It is not up to us.

Personally , I always give feedback as simple courtesy.

There is some very thoughtful material here.

Feedback is very helpful, particularly when it IS thoughtful. It might be easy in Tarot reading to go right off the rails and it is good to have some kind of reality check from time to time.

I like what Choquette said about awareness of ego. It is as though you need to be in a good spiritual state for reading each time - remind ourselves why we are doing it.

What excellent advice! And I agree, that if you're an "entertainer" and you know it's just for fun and present yourself that way, it's a very different thing from a spiritual path. But even "entertaining" readers/readings can have truth to them and should be respected.

As far as feedback, when I've read all the cards and said everything I have to say, I always ask, "Do you have any questions about any of the cards or anything I've told you?" Some people say, "Yes, what about...." and off we go! Other people say, "No." And that's that! So I suppose you have to be open to anything in this business!

EXCELLENT post, Tarotphelia (and PS: love your avatar!).

This is really important stuff to remember, especially for newbies (like me) who are not quite ready to trust themselves yet, and might be relying too heavily on feedback or reactions from others.

On the other hand, as you pointed out, feedback can be such a wonderful part of learning, and I always appreciate getting feedback after I do a reading...it helps me figure out what is working for me and areas that need more attention.

Thanks for giving us something to think about....

I personally dont agree with the feedback part or the recieving compliments part. I think that compliments is what helps us stay positive about our readings and inspires us to learn even more. I also think that feedback is good for both the reader and the querent, it can help the querent clear up any parts of the reading they didnt understand and it helps the reader with further learning also.

Actually, Choquette didn't say any of those quotes- they were from her teacher.(I apologise if it was unclear .) According to her, at the time she just wanted to hear how great she was !!

Thanks for posting that, Tarotphelia. It's kind of inspiring. I do believe that feedback is important in the beginning. But, I liked your words, as you become more experienced you have to let it go.

That Choquette book was *fabulous* and very informative. I read it just a couple weeks ago and have since read her book The Psychic Pathway on developing intuition. Really, really good, detailed advice.
