forgot my deck

I left my deck on the table this morning, and I feel kinda lost. I've had one or another of them with me for months now...either in my car or my bookbag

Granted I don't do much with it while I'm at work, but I do like to rifle through it and pull a card here and there. Plus, now I can't do the SC card of the day till I get home.

How do you feel when you leave home without it?

Phoenyx*  22 Mar 2004
Well, I stopped carrying mine around, due to the influence of the people around here. I do kinda feel lost without it though during the day, even if I do nothing with it.

Nitegoddess  22 Mar 2004
I dont carry my whole deck with me ... what I do is pull my card for the day and that is the card I take with me.. Periodically I look at it during the day.. But, If I don't take a card with me I feel "naked" ... bare to the world. HA HA :)

MyTquinn  22 Mar 2004
This is so funny -- It never occurred to me that anyone OTHER than myself would walk around with a deck in their bag or car. I have always felt funny about it, so I hide them away -- my husband knows I carry them with me but he never says anything about it... And when I forget them I, I feel like I am walking around without my shoes... , If I am not too far away from home or if I have that feeling in the pit of my stomache, I will turn around and go back home to get them! I really love this site -- I am finally beginning to feel not so ODD ...

Cheers to finding aeclectic!

I feel so naked! This is the first time since December I haven't had a deck with me. I think some ppl can sense something's out of whack with me, b/c I've had the "did you have a good weekend....are you sure?" and "are you feeling okay?' questions asked of me.

Ya know, I just might have to go to Barnes & Noble at lunchtime just to be around them! lol....not to buy. I will not buy a deck at lunchtime. I will not buy a deck at lunchtime. I have plenty at home. (repeats over and over)

Me too!!!

As a matter of fact, that's exactly why I got the Tiny Tarot set... it's a little plastic box, filled with a RW deck, and is attached to a key chain. It's so small, that it can fit in my purse, or on a pant loop (for when I go dancing), or anywhere that I can fit it. (http://www.usgamesinc.com/tarot/viewProduct.cfm?Product_ID=22404)

Being so small, it also allows me to carry a deck with me quite inconspicuously, too.

Teranar  22 Mar 2004
Up until a week and a half ago I kept a tarot deck in my truck. Or tank. Depends on who you ask. Then I got in an accident, and my truck/tank got knocked on its side. Before they towed it away (Though I coulda driven it away. AMazing, as the other car was going 50.) I descreetly grabbed the deck I had in it out. Since then I've had a naked feeling because I've been deckless, forgetting to carry it with me.
I'M NAKED!

SongDeva  22 Mar 2004
I wouldn't have expected to be responding to this post.
But now I see that I am one of you. *sigh*

I haven't habitually carried a deck, though did once in a while.
But recently, during a shopping trip, it became impossible to close my purse. This triggered a trip to another store to buy a purse.

It fits all my stuff with room to spare (still a small to med. sized bag, cause I don't like to carry a lot), and I remember thinking, after I got it home and loaded it, that there was even room to hold a tarot deck if I felt like it.

Yes, I've tried it once or twice. And it fits, still w/room to spare.
The odd thing is, I didn't bring a deck today, and a few minutes before reading this post I was wishing I had. :)

This will *NOT* become an everyday need!

this is funny, it never really occurred to me to carry a deck around with me. I haven't yet "mastered" tarot enought to feel comfortable doing it for someone else, and haven't found reason to do it for myself during the day (plus, my purse is REALLY small, I hate carrying a lot of stuff around with me!)

what do y'all do with your deck during the day?

Oh, foof! I just bought a version of that deck that comes in a tiny cardboard box. I like having the tiny cards to take with me anywhere to quickly pull a card, but I was wishing I had something more durable to carry them in. I think I'll purchase that keychain version. Thanks for pointing it out!

I've actually had a few friends ask me to read for them at work. And today I could have really used it b/c a fave coworker lost his best friend over the weekend, and last week we were talking tarot. Actually, he gives me cell-phone tarot readings occasionally!

I like to have it with me in case I'm alone at lunch and can visit a park and just study them. Plus, you never know when you might be stuck somewhere (i.e. traffic) and want to shuffle!

Alissa  22 Mar 2004
I make it a habit to carry my miniature Hanson Roberts in my purse, as more and more I will be approached by a friend to read when I least expect it.

YEAH!!! Me too. I got my key chain Tarot about a month ago and I LOVE IT!!! I always have my little Tarot with me. It is a blessing and it doesn't call a lot of attention to itself, which is nice. However, I did have a clerk at Staples ask me what it was as I was checking out and she saw the plastic case. She gave me a dirty look when she discovered it was Tarot. Oh well!
My deck the mini Universal Waite that is pictured in Shesawolf's link above. It is GREAT!
Blessings,
Indigo Rose :)

I found a plastic box with a handle that was a Scooby Do sticker kit and I use that to cary a few decks with me in a bag when ever I am going to be gone for alittle time. I hardly ever get a chance of a reason to get them out but I have noticed that if I decide not to bring them I get stuck somewhere and would kill to have them with me. lol Right now I am carying the Fey deck and a mini HR

Ravenswing  23 Mar 2004
Seems to be more common than I would have thought. I've got one of those side bags with hundreds of zippers, compartments and hidden things. I carry my RWS in a velcro-ed pouch in the outside flap that was probably designed for a pack of cigarettes.

Somewhere else I carry my study deck of the moment. There's bits of time here and there that I can pull either out if the mood hits me.

'skind of funny. Most people at work know about me and my cards, but no-one's curious (or daring) enough to ask about them. I lean more towards study and contemplation rather than reading anyway, so it all pretty much works out well.

See, I spend a lot of time in the car... or waiting in the car so it is perfect to read a book about Tarot or I just like holding them, shuffling them looking at them... it is tactile I suppose. I like to shuffle them and the guess which card is on top....

I had no idea that anyone else carried their decks --

colusaskye  23 Mar 2004
I carry my deck everywhere.
I've even been known to take it out of my bag and carry it to the bathroom with me!
Not that I read in the bathroom or anything, too many germs in there for my cards <3.

Nobody asks me to do readings and I don't feel comfortable giving one yet. I usually don't have the time to get my cards out and practice as teachers don't like it when you ignore class to do a reading, but still, I have to have my cards with me.

It just feels right.

I have thought about buying the Tiny Tarot for that very purpose as well!
My concern though is that they will be too small to shuffle!
Do you find it difficult?

I have thought about carrying a deck with me but now, the Golden Tarot is too precious and the Radiant also seems too large to carry with me... I'm afraid the Tiny Tarot will be too tiny and therefore hard to shuffle, experiences needed, anyone?

Sheesh, now I really need a small deck and I just promised I would not buy another one.... Maybe the upcoming pocket-sized Universal Waite?

I have the Tiny Tarot and agree that it would be very hard to shuffle, but I got it simply for pulling single cards when I need insight into a quick decision. I have big hands and actually find oversized decks, like the Rohrig, to be easiest to shuffle, though of course, you wouldn't want to carry one of those around. :P

yve  26 Mar 2004
I recently bought the African Tarot from Joan Bunning and although i do have a Tiny Universal Waite, this new deck is quite small, 2 1/4" x 3" and can easily fit into a pocket or a purse. Once I get to using cards for readings in public for friends and family, i may replace my Tiny tarot for this one...the added bonus with this deck is that it is a funny, comical, fun deck that isn't offensive to those who have some aversion to the concept of tarot....

The deck IS too small to shuffle! Instead, when doing a reading for someone, I pour the entire deck into the palm of my hand and have the querent pick one card at a time...

This has actually worked out quite well - the readings have been just as accurate as if I had shuffled the deck.

Imagemaker  26 Mar 2004
I've done this, too--just put the tiny tarot in a small zippered coin-purse and reach in to mix them around and then pick. Works great!

I too carry my deck with me but I have found that my purse is getting a little heavy what with everything else I carry in it, crystals, cards etc. My niece is amazed at what I carry in my purse. Her and my sister in law are in to scrapbooking and they always tease my and say that one day they are going to make me empty the huge bag I carry with me, take pictures and scrapbook the contents. My neice collects different rocks and she loves the "rocks" (crystals) I carry in my purse. So the keychain deck sounds great. Although my keychain carrys alot of stuff right now too. My husband complains its not good for the ignition to have so much weight hanging on it. But hey how much weight can there be on a tiny little tarot deck? (wink, wink)

Sometimes the tarot carries the weight of the world! lol

Kiama  27 Mar 2004
I have carried a deck with me wherever I go for a couple of years now... I think it began at college, when I was always getting requests for readings from my class-mates. I just got into the habit, and I think it's a good habit too: these days I usually go to the pub on Thursday nights and end up doing one or two readings for people (either my friends or complete strangers) before the night is out. I've also been known to give 'crash courses' in Tarot reading at pubs... })

I was once told by a stranger (yep, another stranger in a pub) who I was talking to about Tarot, that 'the good Tarot reader always carries their deck with them.' (He then asked me if I had my deck with me, and I happily beamed and brought out the deck... :D)

So, if I did forget my deck I'd probably feel very lost indeed: I love having the opportunity to practice my reading skills, so I'd be gutted if I were asked for a reading and I didn't have my deck with me. (Though I am sure I'd find some alternative... Such as beer froth divination. }))

Blessings,

Kiama

I pretty much always have at least one deck with me. I have never had to do a "spontaneous" reading, but would like to think I am ready in case the need arises :)

My problem is streamlining which decks I bring with me when I am traveling. I like to do readings and/or study decks when stuck in hotel rooms. Not too long ago I would take a book bag filled with ALL my decks (granted, I didn't have as many as I do now) just in case one deck or another hit me a certain way. Now I sit down and have to make a decision which ones to bring. It sometimes takes me longer to pack my Tarot Bag than it does my suitcase, lol.

I've been carrying around my Mini Egyptian since the moment I got it...unillustrated minors, though, so that Mini Waite on a key chain looks exactly like what I'd really want to be carrying
