Ideas on getting more practice?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if you have any suggestions on how I can go about getting more tarot practice? I have thought of offering readings here but I'm a little intimidated to do a reading for someone that's not face to face, know what I mean? I just had a great reading with my sister tonight that left me so energized and happy and I was able to really help her get some insight into things going on in her life and I basically want to spread the magic but I don't know how to go about it really. I'm not looking for money or anything- I just want to get practice in doing the readings-- actually putting the words together and saying them out loud. Believe it or not in person I am kind of shy and I'm not sure how to go about this. Thoughts? Ideas? thanks

i was semi ware-y of offering readings on here when i 1st came here, so i didnt.. i can't remember if i have yet or not...however i offer my two cents in the "Your Readings" forum. you can spread out someone's reading and then interpret it your way, and then read up on how others thought of it, you may learn something of a card u didnt know before.. (i have done this a few times.. its great).
and don't feel shy!! this is an amazing site, and everyone is here for enlightenment, learning, knowledge, connections.. etc..
=o)
participating in the games helps you practice too (getting to know the cards image, symbolism and meanings).... THEY ARE FUN
good luck, and i'd love a reading if you are gonna offer one! if so, p.m me!
see yah on the forums!

Nocturnaldreamr gave good advice. But don't be intimidated to offer some readings in the Reading Exchange, it's wonderful. I've never read in person actually (except for myself and my boyfriend kind of) but that's different. I'm quite excited about it though. I gained my experience reading for others by practicing with the Seekers in the Reading Exchange. I've just recently noticed that our threads have stopped (we were studying with lark, but she had to give up her duties and we went independent for a couple rounds but it must have fizzled out). If you don't know what I mean you can search for Seekers threads in the search engine. It was a great experience, if you can get together with a group of people that read for each other it becomes easier with time. You just have to learn to trust in yourself.

Hi Brandi

You already have some good advise here. Don't be afraid to post, you can never be wrong - the cards will speak to you the way they will, and you just interpret them. You will feel much better once you get the first one over - trust me! :P

If you are interested, for practice, I started a thread in the Reading Exchange called 'roll up....roll up.....' It's for people to practice, you choose a Celtic Cross spread (loads to choose from) and either read for yourself or the person above you (by that I mean the person who hasn't yet had a reading). The question is in the first post. You don't have to give feedback if you don't want to - its a practice thread.

Hi Brandi
I was thinking the same thing. I feel a little intimidated also to do readings on here now, as everyone seems so experienced. I have done a few for people on here, some I did to them through PM, so as not for others to look at, just in case I botched up. So it's a definite confidence thing. I realised to that people use different decks and they can get a really insightful interpretation from the images they see in the card. Although the couple that I did, I did get some good feedback. But I just love reading other peoples interpretations or readings. I've learnt alot more in reading them, by the way they come up with things. So i just note them in my journal.

Hi brandi,

I started a similar thread a few months back when I was quite new. I got some really good advice. I have put a link in

http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18804&highlight=practise

One of the most useful was put up by Sulis, to lay out the cards from other peoples throws and have a go.

Good luck!

J :)

Hi brandi124

I know exactly what you mean about being a bit nervous about reading online, as I was exactly the same until recently. I have always done readings face to face and really enjoy the interaction and personal contact part of it.

I recently joined in the thread that Moonbow* has started and mentioned in the thread here - and did my very first online reading, which I found a bit less intimidating that just posting out there offering a reading. This was a real learning experience for me - and have to be honest a bit difficult to get the focus at first, but like anything practice always helps. :)

I will be a less hesitant now to jump in and read online, but as I am still new to this online reading bit, I still think I like face to face readings better, but I can go for some weeks before I get the opportunity to do one and am keen to give the online readings more of a go and learn more as I go along. I tried a few phone readings for friends first - just to get my head round the distance bit and not being face to face and found that a good step in that direction as well.

Good luck!

I actually feel that doing readings from a distance is really a great way to practise because I always feel under pressure in face to face readings.

If I am doing a reading for someone on the exchange section, (a) I have the time to do my reading, to let flow my intuition and to ponder how to put my words. And (b) it creates rather a special relationship with this person and can be the beginning of a great friendship!

Thanks everyone, I'm going to check out that thread you started Moonbow-- that sounds like a good start. Also, Lucille I really like the idea of doing a reading for someone via PM instead of just out there for all the world to see at least to start with. Who's signature is it that says: "Feel the fear and do it anyway"? Here I go! :)

Nice to see I'm a subliminal influence! :D

Good luck with your readings. I know that doing readings online can be easier at times than doing them face to face. I used to be a member of a yahoogroup with other tarot readers. Every week we'd be paired off and exchange readings. It was a fantastic experience, and the feedback was always interesting!

Let us know how it goes!

Most of the readings I've done and received were on-line and it is great for me. I've made a lot of friends that way and helped others that way. It is really pretty easy to make the connection so don't worry about that. It's really fun and gives you some time to think and not feel like you are under the gun to come out with something. Hard sometimes with out the feed back but....
