I know some of us have had dreams of tarot cards or decks that don't really exist. The other night I dreamed about a tarot bag, and now I really want it manifest in the waking world.
In the dream I was in a store, and I was sorting through a basket of bags. Some were little purses with skinny straps, made in velvets and ethnic fabrics. Some were drawstring bags. The colors were so rich, the textures luxurious, some of the fabrics shot through with gold or silver. They were all beautiful, but I was looking for the perfect bag.
Then I found one that was really different from all the others. It was leaf-shaped, made of two quilted and embroidered leaf-shapes put together. There was a zipper around the outside edges. It was all in greens and browns, earthy and magical looking, and padded inside to protect the cards -- padded along the zipper, too, so they wouldn't be abraded on the edges. The only thing wrong was that it was too small for my deck (in the dream, I wanted it for my Fey tarot).
I think I can make something like this, if I find the right fabrics... I am going to try, at least! It was too cool of a dream-find not to try to make it. :)

When I read your description it was like I was one step ahead. I'd see part of your description in my mind and there it would be lol...and the first thing I thought was "faeries, or fey". Good luck making it :)

laura_borealis, your "dream" bag sounds beautiful and hope you post a pic of it once you have made it. Sounds like a wonderful creative inspiration moment! Go with it!
Pay head to your dream though - make sure you measure your "Fey" before you make up the bag ;)

Oh, good thinking! I do have a tendency to just go ahead without planning... Thank you!
I will post pics if/when I make it -- but considering the way my semester is going it might not be right away. :P

Sounds like a message from the unconscious, which simultaneously responds on an inspirational/creative level as well as marks changing consciousness.
CreativeFire makes an interesting point about planning ahead which could be generally applied also.

Also be very observant when your are out shopping.
I've had dreams of things and then weeks or months later have actually found the thing I've dreamed of.
My second puppy was a dog I saw in a dream.
I saw her little face.
When we went to the breeder months later to pick out a puppy my husband reached in the playpen full of puppies and picked one up.
I was busy looking at the others and none of them grabbed me...cute enough but I wasn't making a connection.
Then hubby said "Hey! Look at this one and he turned her little face to me.
That was it the puppy face in my dream and she came home to live with us that very day.

Cute story lark. And good point.
P.S. This wasn't the new puppy that we all wanted you to get was it? :D

The shape will be round enough to cushion the corners of a square deck and on the bottom a charm or a stone can be put in...just for reading pleasure. If I ever have any room in my small zip-up bags that I store my tarots for travel, I fold up small pieces of muslin that I dyed long ago into marbelized patterns as a small cloth to lay the cards down if I pull them out. Just another pleasureable novelty and extra cushion against scratchy keys, book corners or sunglass prongs that might scratch surfaces a little...brocade fabric adds a little richness and a leafy kind of vein design, maybe?
The embroidery sounds beautiful. Sometimes Asian raw silk or cotton bags already at an import store might have the elements of what you seek and then you can cut and modify the material?
Just a thought. The project sounds gorgeous.

I will! :) but it might be a few weeks. I have looked through my stash and I don't have the right fabric, so I'll have to find it elsewhere. And I have 60 million papers to write before the end of the semester... :P
Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone. Lark, your puppy dream is such a lovely story. Mari, your suggestions are wonderful! I like the idea of looking for fabric that's already embroidered. :) Lazy, that's me... but also it would work for this bag; that was the style of the embroidery in the dream, as it was viney and self-colored (threads the same color as fabric, like embroidered asian fabric often is).
I'm getting excited about this, that creative itch wants to be scratched... wish I didn't have those 60 million papers hanging over my head. :(
