What deck is *currently* your reading deck?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 01 Mar 2004, and now archived in the Forum Library.

dolphinprincess  01 Mar 2004
I'm sure this question has been asked before.. probably several times.. but since new decks come out often, and tastes change... I figured I'd ask again.

Even though many have huge tarot deck collections, it seems that most use one or a few decks for doing readings...

For those that read for clients or others, what is your main reading deck (or decks if you use a few)????

~dp

laura_borealis  01 Mar 2004
The Fey. I've only had them a few days, but they are perfect for me right now. :)

Kissa  01 Mar 2004

Took me ages to make my mind but i finally ordered it and never regretted it. This gentle deck with its open and positive spirituality orientated towards family/ancestors and environment talks to me like no deck before. It moves me and works very intuitively. Just what the doctor ordered...

Good thread. I expect to see lots of tarot of Prague and Fey in here.
:-)

fairyhedgehog  01 Mar 2004
Hanson-Roberts. An old friend and so easy to read. A bit harsh at times though ... :D

cartarum  01 Mar 2004
i use the rws pocket edition. its my travel companion: easy to shuffle, classic symbology, a good read

Osher  01 Mar 2004
Tarot of the Old Path, my first deck, and still my favourite (I have 29 deck). Heck the cards are even getting that slightly worn, slightly sticky feel, slightly grubby feel old cards get!

Star Spirit  01 Mar 2004
Probably still my Hudes, as I'm the most familiar with it. But I suspect the Fey is fast becoming my main reading deck, it gives surprisingly accurate readings.

Astraea  01 Mar 2004
Ancestral Path, Tarot of Prague and Thoth are my stalwarts.

Marion  01 Mar 2004
Thoth, Osho Zen, Tarot of Prague, The Fey.

Jeanette  01 Mar 2004
I'm trying to expand and use my Spiral Tarot by Kay Steventon. I've tried using other decks, and keep coming back to my Universal RWS (my first deck). World Spirit and Tarot Nova are good, too.

Rusty Neon  01 Mar 2004
Rider-Waite
Tarot de Marseille

Centaur  01 Mar 2004
At the moment, I am mostly using the Universal-Waite.

Mimers  01 Mar 2004
Tarot of Prague, Ancestral Path, Universal RWS

Dark_angel  01 Mar 2004
At the moment, my beloved Amber Tarot, and the wonderful Mythic and Londa. Oh, and the Gothic!

(was I allowed to pick more than one?)

Chronata  01 Mar 2004
for myself...RWS, Froud Faerie Oracle, Whimsical, Buckland Romani
For clients...Mini Hanson Roberts, Madame Endora, and a constantly revolving deck from my collection.

Le_Corsair  01 Mar 2004
Hoi Polloi and Ator.

Bob :THERM

Cerulean  01 Mar 2004
1. Mini-Egyptian (Sylvana Alasia) with book from the set, and the Book of Doors.

2. Maybe the Buddhist Tarot by Robert Place...there's a booklet, but no book with the small set. May order the book, although the deck booklet looks pretty good.

Mari H.

crystal cove  01 Mar 2004
I've been using the Crystal and Hadar Marseille mostly in the last few months, but for some reason, I've been digging out decks that I haven't used in a while .....Thoth, Hermetic, Osho Zen.

Osher  01 Mar 2004
Oh how nice, someone else who loves the Londa deck (and the Mythic too), one of my favourites! The Buckland Romani is on my wishlist too...

miss_apples  01 Mar 2004
I use The Tarot of a Moon Garden deck and The Gendron Deck...depending on my mood. I use the moon garden deck if Im in a playful mood because its a very playful child like deck. I will use my gendron when Im in more of a serious mood because its kind of a somber..."lets get down to business" kind of deck.

Logiatrix  01 Mar 2004
My reading decks are the Aquarian, Animal-Wise, and the Healing w/the Angels Oracle, as well as a standard poker deck.
I also use the Zerner-Farber Tarot and the Tao Oracle just for my own readings.
I'm still getting acquainted with "The Star That Never Walks Around," but I can already tell it's gonna be another great reading deck.
:)

BlueLotus  01 Mar 2004
The Shining Tribe deck which I received a couple of days ago has been calling for me all the time. I have done a few readings with it and I am very pleased with the outcome. Ms. Pollack is an excellent and inspiring tutor.

I still read with my other favorite decks, such as Spiral, Hudes, Ancestral Path, and a few others and find tremendous insight from doing so, but how many decks can you read at the same time

Ruby Red Slippers  01 Mar 2004
Tarot of Prague, Universal RWS, Faeries Oracle. I also use the majors from the Robin Wood deck.

Recently acquired the Gill (thanks to Mimers :) ) and this deck just "clicks"!

contrascarpe  01 Mar 2004
Until recently I was using my Universal Waite and Tarot of Prague. I picked up the Journey to the Orient deck a couple of weeks ago and have been using that one primarily since - however, on a whim, I used the Gendron for a couple of readings yesterday and even though I was less than thrilled with this deck when I first purchased it, I have to admit that I felt very comfortable with it.

Dan

Lucy Furr  01 Mar 2004
I as my "comfort deck", the one I'am most at ease with use the Rider-Waite, I have been however learning to use (finding it very easy as well!!) Titania's tarot cards.... very pretty easy to use single pictures. The cards have specific meanings especially when paired next to certain cards.... there is a main reading layout that uses EVERY card in the deck... and the fun part, half the cards so they are really easy to remember the meanings.

Cocobird55  01 Mar 2004
I'm currently using The Tarot of Timeless Truth...

Sue

ol_crazy_Legs  01 Mar 2004
The Deck that I am reading with right now is the Gothic Tarot Deck. It an excellent deck.

Nevada  01 Mar 2004
I'm currently using four Tarot decks interchangeably:

Thoth
Goddess
Universal de Angelis
Tarot of Transformation

Oh, and of course I sprinkle in a Froud Faeries Oracle card here and there.

I couldn't live without any of these, at the moment.

Nevada

starsongs  01 Mar 2004
Currently I use

Ancestral Path, Vision Quest, Timeless Truth, and MerryDay the most.

lionette  01 Mar 2004
the past few months I've been using:

for myself -- New Century and Light & Shadow

For others -- Light & Shadow

(although, Tarot of the Master is due any day now!)

lark  01 Mar 2004
To the Spirit Fair I take 6 decks.
Robin Wood
Universal RWS
Radiant Rider
Morgan Greer
Hanson Robert
The sixth deck is usually something that I'm studying, so I can devote some time to it while I wait for customers.
And sometimes I'll tell a customer I'm working with a new deck and they'll let me use it for them.
So I get some experience with it that way.
You get to find out pretty fast if a deck will work for readings for others that way.

The first five decks remain the same.
Some of my customers actually have come to like a certain deck and they ask for it.
So I don't want to disappoint them.
I had a problem letting people shuffle my cards.
I'd tell myself I didn't mind but everytime someone shuffled them I'd get this little sinking ach in the pit of my heart.
So the first 5 decks are Fair decks and stay packed in my bag and I replaced them in my private collection with duplicate decks just for my use.
That solved the problem.

At home I'm spending alot of time these days with ~
The Guilded :*
Nefertari's
Margarete Peterson
And a new set of Rune Cards that I'm just in love with.
Also the Faerie's come out everyday, come rain or shine.
I pick 3 Angel Blessing cards everyday.
And I have a deck on my night table that I go through a card a day untill the deck is done.
Then I switch decks and go through another.
Right now my night time deck is The Fairy Pack.

HUMMM I sound a little obsessive....:D

Indigo Rose  01 Mar 2004
Radiant Rider and Hanson Roberts deck. However, I JUST got the Sacred Circle in the mail today and I am eager to look at it. It is very different from what I am used to, but it looks quite interesting.
Indigo Rose :)

CreativeFire  02 Mar 2004
Just got the Radiant RW and really like using this one the most at the moment :)

However still go back to my old favourite the Sharman-Caselli and also the Universal Waite.

CreativeFire

jmd  02 Mar 2004
Principally, but not solely, the Schaffhouse (US Games 'Tarot Classic' deck)...

Lee  02 Mar 2004
I'm going back to basics.

My favorite right now is RWS! :)

I may get adventurous and graduate to the Radiant Rider-Waite, and the International Icon Tarot when it's released (soon!).

-- Lee

Darla  02 Mar 2004
Depending on my mood I'm currently using the Vision Quest and the Gothic Tarot of Vampires.

LadyMedusa  02 Mar 2004
Lets see...

The Golden Tarot and Universal Waite, are my main reading decks. I still love The Greenwood, but it has become a personal deck.

Oh and I have one friend that I always use the Cosmic for. It really speaks well I'm reading for her.

LadyMedusa

Majecot  02 Mar 2004
I mainly use Quest, but lately, I have felt I get my best readings from Rohrig.

Sulis  02 Mar 2004
Morgan Greer

Love and light

Sulis xx

Gardener  02 Mar 2004
oooh, I've been waiting for someone to ask this question!

I love my Victoria Regina, that's the one I use. The Tarot of Prague also, and sometimes I do a spread with Regina, then lay out the corresponding cards from Prague and Margarete Petersen, Prague above and Petersen below. They make a lovely collection of colors and images, and amazing how often they work well together, reinforcing or expanding ideas.

Moongold  02 Mar 2004
I use the Ancient Egyptian a lot at present. I really love it .Also the Ancestral Path. The Tarot of the Sephiroth is an old favourite which always gives very clear messages. And I have a new Fournier Marseilles which I am enjoying.

Aure  02 Mar 2004
Radiant RWS is my reading deck at the moment. It is so easy to read and feels comfortable!

However, it just might be that when I get the Golden Tarot it will be my main deck... :)

MeeWah  02 Mar 2004
RWS, Robin Wood, Ancient Egyptian, Chinese nigh equally.

Followed by Cosmic Tribe, Sasha Fenton, Templar.

Still getting acquainted with Tarot of the Sephiroth, Tarot of Prague, Thoth.

Looking into other versions of RWS & the Marseilles & others.

Somanydeckssolittletime!

OMG!!!
I can't believe I forgot to mention my "old faithful," Visconti Gold!
No wonder it was mad at me yesterday!

punchinella  03 Mar 2004
I'm reading with: Tarot of Prague, Ancestral Path, Vision Quest, Animal-Wise.

'Secretly', though, Marseilles has been poking its nose out of its bag these last couple of days . . . hmmph. I'm not quite sure what to make of this.

???

13thFaeChylde  03 Mar 2004
Currently, I do readings for others with my World Spirit. Granted, I rarely read for others, but when I do I use this deck.

I'm using the Tarot of the Hidden Folk for study purposes as of March 1st.

Jewel-ry  03 Mar 2004
The following three - Tarot of Prague, Morgan Greer, and Hadar. That said I am also playing with my two new decks - Angels and Renaissance at the moment and the Faeries Oracle.

J :)

lunakasha  04 Mar 2004
I am currently alternating between the Radiant Rider-Waite, Hanson-Roberts and Navigators of the Mystic SEA decks....both RRW and HR have been wonderful to read with, I had an instant connection with both of them and they have helped me learn so much! The Navigators deck is a new one for me...I was very intimidated by this one and feared it might just end up another "pretty" deck that would sit on a shelf...but then a funny thing happened! I joined another thread with two or three others who wanted to work with this deck, and we decided to use it for our daily, one-card readings. Well, I tried it and was completely blown away by how accurate and intuitive this deck is for me to read with....the other night I spontaneously pulled the Navigators deck out and did a 3-card reading for my brother, and it was unbelievable!!! Kudos from me for this "difficult" deck...I am so glad I took the time and gave it a chance! :D

BTW, I have SEVERAL new decks that are begging for some attention, so my rotation is likely to change pretty soon....

:D Luna

Emily  04 Mar 2004
I'm using the Morgan Greer mostly now, I have been looking through the Thoth, my new large non-green version :D, but I haven't done any readings with it yet. I also use the Universal Waite and the Tarot of St Petersburg, mainly just for study and comparing.

mysticalowl  04 Mar 2004
I love using the Quest Tarot for readings. It has so much information to offer.

Moonbow*  04 Mar 2004
At the moment it's Navigators of the Mystic Sea.

But also at times I pick up, Universal Waite, Tarot of Prague, Hadar's Marseilles, Lenormand cards and Quest.

I'm meditating on Tarot of the Spirit everyday (for a long time), Hadar's Marseilles (for 5 minutes aday) and occassionally on Sacred Geometry Oracle (for dreamwork)

Moonbow* :)

Edited: OMG I forgot my Faeries!!!.... now they really won't talk to me.... they come out once in a while to play, but the last time they just wouldn't speak.... Oi That Gnome just stood there, arms folded and flatly refused. I have some making up to do!

BlueLotus  01 Jun 2004
Morgan Greer, Pagan, Ananda, and mini universal (althernatingly).

Flavio  01 Jun 2004
Universal Waite and Hanson Roberts (the last is "overcharged" now so I will take it back next week)

Woof  01 Jun 2004
I've stopped buying decks because no matter how many I have I pretty much only read with my Universal Waite. I use my others rarely.
Woof

prk001  01 Jun 2004
I use Quest & Haindl... I dont remember when was the last time I used any other decks I have.

Good to know that you are also using the Quest deck for your readings. We are having a sudy group to discuss this deck in the General forum of Study Groups. You can come and contibute to these threads whenever you have some time.

lunakasha  01 Jun 2004
Currently, there are several decks that I alternate with, both for larger readings, and also my daily card draws.

The "regulars" would be the Bosch, Secret, Quest and Thoth decks.

Of course, I pull out other decks depending upon my mood and the subject of the reading...I like variety!!! :D

And then there are my oracle decks: the Answer Deck and Madame Endora's Fortune Cards are used several times weekly.

:) Luna

Moonbow*  01 Jun 2004
Where to start... :)

Rohrig for daily one card draw...

Victoria Regina for nightly card and journal entry..

Study Groups are:

Minchiate
Drogi (in the comparative study group)
Quest
Rohrig
Answer - new today :)

I occasionaly dabble in:

Belline Oracle
Lenormand
Egyptian
Golden

Agathe  01 Jun 2004
Currently I am using The Angelis but as soon as I can afford any deck, I'll get myself Morgan Greer and I'm going to use it until it falls apart :D

Mojo  01 Jun 2004
Royal Fez Moroccan for individual readings

Il Tarocco Bizzarro for parties

Tarocco Delle Collezioni for my top clients or special occasions (I have signed deck #6)

Luminessence  04 Jun 2004
Lately I've been using the Quest Tarot a lot, since I just got it fairly recently. Sometimes, though, the intensity of the Quest deck gets to be too much, so then I tend to go back to the Sacred Circle deck. So I guess those two are currently my main reading decks. I just got the Robin Wood deck yesterday, too, so I imagine I'll be using it a lot for awhile :)

13thFaeChylde  04 Jun 2004
I have had an abundance of Tarot trades, gifts and purchases lately, and have been swimming in all my decks!

I should pick a deck a week and use that one only...(yeah, right ;))

Right now I have 3 in my backpack: Fey, Wise Woman and Tarot of Transformation.

tmgrl2  04 Jun 2004
Gilded Tarot, Radiant Rider Waite and Hadar's TdMarseille (although I lost my card for the day today)...so I ordered another deck...If I find the card, I'll give one of the decks to my friend as a gift. She is just starting out.

So looks like I'm going to be a RW ( and versions) and TdM (versions) user...

Marion  04 Jun 2004
International Icon seems to jump into my hand frequently these days.
It does change though. :D

Dakota  04 Jun 2004
Sharman-Burke-Caselli or Universal Waite...............

contrascarpe  04 Jun 2004
I'm glad this thread was resurrected. My last response was in March and it is amazing to see how I have progressed.

I have many reading decks now but two jump out:

For "soft" readings, the Robin Wood
For "hard" readings, the Tarot of the Imagination

However, there are many I am using, including the Nefartari, Rohrig and Ancient Egyptian. Plus, just got the Margarete Petersen today and know it will be special, as is the Ananda.

I don't have a particular deck I use for readings...I use whichever deck strikes my fancy, or moves me at that particular moment...i'm not fussy, I love most of my decks, and like to rotate them so none feel neglected

smokey  05 Jun 2004
Gilded
Universal Waite
Spiral
F. O.
Cosmic Tribe

Sulis  05 Jun 2004
Mine's changed, not much. I still use my Morgan Greer but I think I use World Spirit as much again now, I went off it for a few months but I love it again now :)

Everybody else must know what you mean by "soft" and "hard" readings but I am new so I can ask dumb questions like, "What is the definition of a "soft" or a "hard" reading?

I guess those are my terms and I should have elaborated, or chosen better wording .....

A "hard" reading is one I see as intense, when you really want to go deep into the reading and perhaps find something profound or meaningful. A "soft" reading is more a surface reading - to discover things, get advice.

FoxFire50  05 Jun 2004
I use the Radient Rider-Waite, (or Universal-Waite), closely followed by Kat Black's Golden Tarot. The only "whimsical" deck I use - I have a couple of clients who are particularly fond of it and always request it - is the delightful, 1950's style nostalgic Halloween Tarot.

Like most everyone else here, I have multiple decks in my collection, which I use as study decks and examples of certain types of art work I like, but I personally need strong symbolism to give my most accurate readings.

peace_pixie  06 Jun 2004
definatly Froud's oracle cards, those little people sure get to the heart of the matter :)

hedgecub  06 Jun 2004
Another vote for the World Spirit, and for advice cards I love my Wolf Song Cards.
I'm also getting to know my Animal Wise (thanks to ros *hugs*). I love how it doesn't just have mammals, but includes birds, reptiles, and insects :D

Sillanza  07 Jun 2004
New Palladini
Spiral

That's it right now ...

jema  07 Jun 2004
the one closes to my computer and that is right now the Golden Tarot by Kat Black

but also the Faeries Oracle that i use for myself right now.
(and morgans tarot that i like to "chat" with)

Aun  07 Jun 2004
The Thoth is my deck of choice, but for Spreads with reversals I still use my old and good Waite-Smith...

WolfSpirit  07 Jun 2004
I am getting more and more decks...
but for readings, at the moment I fall back on
Ancestral Path
Merryday Tarot

They just work so well for me !
