I recently got The Victoria Regina Tarot. From there I got a book on Victorian lifestyles. When I bought The Faeries Oracle of course I had to read everything by Brian Froud. Same with my Greenman Oracle. I was just wondering if anyone else reads up on the theme of their cards?

Which book did you get on Victorian lifestyles? I have the Victoria Regina too.
I guess I am going to read up more on the fey, since I have recently acquired my Fey Tarot deck. :)

Hi Centaur!
I got it at Barnes & Noble.
It's "Daily Life in Victorian England" by Sally Mitchell, published by Greenwood Publishing Group,Incorporated.

I tend to often already have an inherent interest in the topic before I even get the cards.
Although I just got my Viking deck and would now like to get a comprehensive volume explaining and comparing/contrasting mythologies of not only the Vikings but also the Greeks and Romans.

Thanks Diane. I was curious because I am keen to learn more about the Victoria Regina deck, as I find that more information enriches the reading experience!
Cheers.

I had already had a healthy interest in Arthurian legends before I got the Arthurian Tarot, but after reading the Hallowquest companion, I feel the need to do more research into the mythos.

Hi diane drizzy
I also usually have an interest in the subject before I get the deck. It was my study into Native Amercian cultures, beliefs and shamanism that first got me into tarot as my Mum bought me the Native American tarot deck as she new of my interest and then I just went on with Tarot from there ...
It also works the other way as well, even though you may have an initial interest, when using a Tarot deck of the same theme it can give much more of an understanding on how certain myths, ceremonies, rituals etc relate to the different cards and situations.
A little while ago I bought the Sacred Circle tarot because of my interest in Celtic mythology, history and shamanism and am learning new things all the time at the moment doing a daily card draw with this deck. :)
Cannot quite say what inspired me to the Thoth (that was just a real out of the blue strike), but it could be the symbolism, as I also have had an interest in learning the meanings of the symbols from many indigenous cultures around the world and then looking for links between them - and there are interestingly quite a few!
The Arthurian legends would be an interesting one, Bacchus - as they would also relate to the Celtic.
Would love to see a Maori (NZ) Tarot deck published as they have some awesome mythological characters and stories! Hopefully someone will be come inspired to this one day. ;)
