how many duplicate decks in the collection?

Since Lady Eclipse mentioned that she has multiple copies of several decks, I wondered how many others are holding a duplicate of a favorite deck.

I just traded for a second Osho Zen (to make sure I never lack for one), and have two Thoth and two mini-Rider Waites. Otherwise, only one copy of each size/style of my other 30+ decks.

Except for deck creators who have multiple copies in stock, who has double or triple copies just for security?

I got a second deck of the Gothic Tarot. I don't know if it is because the deck is black, but it scratches easily. The stock is not very thick too. I'm not saying the quality is bad and all, I'm just saying the deck is a bit fragile. The Gothic Tarot, being published independantly, I thought it would be a good idea to get a second one while it's still there. I even managed to get it signed by Vargo. :)

I have two thoth and two rider decks - it's because I have a problem with sharing. That way when my husband wants to play he can use the stand by deck :)

Some have said that older versions had thinner or thicker cards or coatings than newer editions. I'm thinking that when I totally love a deck, I should get the second copy--then feel too packrattish!

3- Robin Wood
3- Morgan Greer
2- Universal Waite
2 - Radiant Rider
2- Hanson Robert
2- Tarots To Go (mini Hanson Robert for purses.)

I'm planning on getting a second Golden by Kat Black and another Gilded when it's printed.

I keep one of the above six decks packed up for the Spirit Fair.
Hate other people handling my personal decks so I bought duplicates of my favorites for the fair.
The extra Morgan Greer and Robin Wood are packed up for (just in case.)
I couldn't do without them if they ever went out of print.

2 Robin Wood
had two Osho Zen but gave one away to a gf
2 Tarot of Prague
Plan to get a second International Icon
Usually it is because I like the deck so much that I cannot bear the thought that someday it might get lost or damaged and I would not be able to get another.
3 Thoth, but that's for other reasons. (I had 4 briefly and sent one off to an AT member)

I have 4 Thoth's - two large ones but one is green, one standard size and one pocket size.

I also have two Rider Waites again one standard and one pocket size.

I have two 1JJ Swiss decks - one in French and the other English

I also want to get another Golden just to keep. :)

contrascarpe  30 Apr 2004
I have two Golden's. I did have two Prague's as well, but felt selfish and gave one to my brother. Actually, I did the same with my Golden but felt I really needed a pristine one.

I will have two Templars soon. I bought a second on eBay which had a signed card by the Artist and a signed book by the Author. I may put my old Templar up for trade once I get the signed one. I will probably have two Baroque Bohemian Cats as well once they come out.

I really should get another Robin Wood and Osho Zen - they will be wearing out soon.

I will often purchase a second copy of a deck I really like, just in case it goes out of print and something happens to the one I have. I call this OOP-phobia.

Sometimes I get an extra copy just because I see it on sale, or it's included in an auction with other decks, etc.

Or sometimes I want to get the book that goes with the deck, but it isn't sold separately, so I have to get the set.

Or I want an extra copy to keep in order to use as a study deck.

I have 2 (or more) copies of the Phantasmagoric, Secrets, Halloween, Haindl, Gnomes, Thoth, Mountain Dream, Sacred Rose, Norse, Crow's Magic, Vargo's Gothic, Sphynx, Rock & Roll, Elemental, Shining Woman, and probably a few others I can't think of at the moment.

SongDeva  30 Apr 2004
I just bought a second buckland romani set because it's out of print and so well liked. Maybe someday I'll sell my first copy on ebay for an exorbitant price. heheheh

I want a second Templar perhaps, and a second Golden.
Templar is a small publisher so I feel that's wise, for personal use or for out of print-ness.
I just bought a second Merryday for the same reason, along with its book.

I had a couple of Thoths after buying a lot with a Thoth in it, and traded one away for a New Vision (which I feel should be called New Perspective, but I digress).

Right now I only have one of everything, unless you count my two copies of the Tarot Nova, one of which is a miniature edition.

I'm thinking of getting a second Robin Wood, though, since I hate other people handling decks I'm close to, and I'm certainly close to my RW. Every once in a while people will ask if they can have a flip through my deck, and I grimace slightly as I watch them go through the cards. If I have a second copy, at least when I go out with it in public to give my friends readings and such, if other people want to flip through it, I won't get quite so possessive ;)

that I used and I liked the changes.

The Ancient Tarots of Lombardy went from a small white and small yellow to larger size beige and I have coated and uncoated versions--so three of a historic deck by three different makers (Solloene, Lo Scarabeo, Il Menghello). The Di Gumppenberg and Dotti historic reprints are collection points.

Last year, I acquired some different Visconti versions for study and collection. I have four--U.S. Games early version, a museum copy reproduction, the Visconti Gold with upside down mottos and the kit with the Gold book and deck.

I am receiving hopefully by this weekend the Italian language version of the Hidden Folk from Lo Scarabeo, which has brown backs, a different Chariot card and different minors in 2-10---decorative but not scenic. But that's for creative purposes.

Funny, my small 1995 version of Giorgio Trevisan's Renaissance was a keeper because the colors looked nicer to me and I liked the size...it goes with my small format Romantici...and I keep the larger 2001 Renaissance Tarots for comparison and the booklet, but I like to use the smaller, brighter editions.

I have a regular Egyptian by Silvia Alasia and a mini version and a regular Universal by Roberto diAngelis and a mini. Great for travel.

I have 2 Legend's- 1 in use, the other retired (my first deck) when my bassett hound decided to use it for a chew toy.

I have 2 Universal Waite's- 1 I use, the other I found still sealed at my favorite used book store for $3.

I have several multiple decks - for multiple reasons :P

2 Universal Waite - 1 regular, 1 mini
2 Thoth - 1 icky green, 1 standard (hope to get a large non-icky someday)
2 Aquarian - looking for another exactly like my vintage deck
2 Rock and Roll - planned to read with the 2nd ed deck

Strange2  02 May 2004
I have 5 Crowley/Harris Thoth decks. 3 of the large size (my first deck purchased in 1978, then a beautiful AG Muller Swiss version, and my prized 1969 second printing version), 1 regular size, and 1 pocket size for my work bag).

Also have 2 sets of the wonderful Tarot de la Rea deck by Alain Bocher, one for reading and one for safekeeping.
