Most spreads have one or even more positions for advice.
When I do/get a reading for myself I usually have severe problems with advice. Not that I wouldn’t take any advice, but more in that way that I don’t know how to start/proceed with this advice.
For example:
How do you let go of something if you’re still very bitter about it even after many years have passed? How do you start letting go of something? Start really forgiving someone?
How do you become more outgoing if you just love sitting at home reading?
How do you become more creative if you just can’t think of anything creative to do?
…
Usually we know ourselves pretty well. In my experience the advice the Tarot cards give us rarely comes as a complete surprise.
I usually end up with readings that give an accurate description of the current situation, but that’s about it then. So I’d be really interested how advice can work in a more productive way. How do you transfer advice into your daily life?

Try simply starting with the question "okay, what am I not looking at that might help me deal with this?", or "what's a different way of seeing this situation that will help me let it go?"
First, though, you need to check to see whether you really do want answers to the "problems". Do you really want to be more outgoing, or do you simply think that you "ought" to be? If it's the second, you'll get answers that don't help a lot, because you don't want answers that will help. And it's okay not to be outgoing, if that's most comfortable to you.

Hi, Lady Mary. I tend to shy away from "advice" cards, but I did use one today, as an afterthought. I was doing a reading for a client and the last two cards were the outcome if she took action and the outcome if she didn't take action. It looked to me like the spread was saying "take action!" as the outcome with action was the Knight of Wands. However, I was afraid of coming right out and saying it. I decided to draw a last card for "advice" and the Sun came up. To me, there is so much similarity between the Sun and the Knight of Wands that I went ahead and told her to go for it.
So what does this mean in relation to your question? I guess I'm agreeing with Astra. Don't go in looking for advice, just clarity. The cards may go ahead and give you advice, but I think they'll only do that if you're ready to hear it.
Of course, if you're like me, you never listen to advice, even your own. :)

You partially answered your own question, Lady Mary...it often isn't a surprise when it comes up...so far, there has been a way for me to word the "advice" short of it sounding like a directive...
Last weekend, though, I did a reading ala Diana's advice thread...I told my stepdaughter that if I did the reading for her, she had to follow the advice for a week and give me feedback. Of course, it has to be worded in a "doable" fashion..so we shall see what she says....
Somehow, it doesn't bother me....I guess I feel I'll find a way to say this is
What you should think about...(that's advice, right)
What you might want to look at (advice, again)
What area you might want to delve into...
An emotional or spiritual issue you might want to examine....
terri
We should get some good feedback. It's a good question...one I haven't thought about, but will that day when I get stuck on the Advice card!

I would ask for advice on the advice :D
Say my advice was to 'go out more'.. I would ask for suggestions as to how, and I might, say, draw the 10 of Wands which would encourage me to go shopping with my friends, or take some of my crafts to market.
