Hi, I am actually a newbie to tarot cards. I have not even touch one before. I have already bought my 1st deck through the internet and is now waiting anxiously for it to arrive.
I heard from friends that tarot cards cannot be used by other people and i do see some posting in this thread refering to this as well. Why is it so? Actually i do really hope to share it with my friends and family members.
I do hope that someone can advice me on that.
Best Regards,
Panadoll

Slow down and enjoy life.
It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast,
you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.

Unless it's a deck with some special significance - such as a gift from a particular person - my fiance and I have no problems sharing our decks with each other as long as permission's asked first.
Everyone you ask will likely have a different answer, based on different reasoning. *shrugs* If it works out for you that you just don't want to share your deck, then don't think you have to just because someone asks nicely. :)

By all means, do share your deck with your family and friends... like any object which you may wish to imbue with sacredness, however, a sense of reverence and respect for the item, as you yourself handle it, will rub off on those to whom you may share the deck with.
Personally, I have numerous decks I do not hesitate to share quite liberally with most, but a few I keep more for myself or allow fewer people to handle.

Are you referring to the thread about letting other people read with your cards? It's all personal preference really. If you want to share your cards with other people, go right ahead. Personally, I'd let anyone touch or look at my cards if they wanted to, as long as the person didn't give me a bad vibe. I would have no problem doing this with family and friends, if the situation arose. My boyfriend can touch, read, or do anything with my cards as far as I'm concerned :D I would feel uncomfortable however if a stranger wanted to read with my cards, simply because I feel they have my energy about them and are meant to be used mostly by me. But then, that's all just superstition (and a little possessiveness) ;)

*looks over her decks and wonders* There are people that I would definitely let touch my decks, but some people better not be coming within 10 feet of them! >.<

There is a fun and helpful thread on supposed tarot rules here, which also has some opinions on whether or not to let others touch your cards.
Really, whatever feels right :)

I believe (and I'm not the only one here :D) that all things have an energy about them. I also believe people hold stronger energy (ie. their auras, etc.) that reflects their personality and who they are. I believe people with strong energy can pass such energy into their personal objects. When I am using my cards and pouring myself into studying them and reading with them, I believe that some of my personal energy goes into them and thus I have a connection with them. If I came across a person that I felt uncomfortable around, I wouldn't want them touching my cards because I wouldn't want their negative energy to disrupt my own (if that makes sense). But as I've said before, it's all just superstition :)

Agreed. You simply do what feels RIGHT to you.. If you feel that it helps your readings to let the questioner touch them, then by all means, do so :) If you fear they will leave a negative imprint on your cards, then simply pull the cards yourself.
You do what you think is right :) There is no right or wrong way to read tarot. Good luck & enjoy!

Absolutely feel the same way. One of my children shows an interest and treats the cards with respect, whilst my other son no way!. I also have some decks that I don't like anyone to touch, they are ;)

OH, LUCKY YOU!
You couldn't have picked a better one! The Tarot of Prague is right up there on my "wish-list"(w/xception of Vertigo & it's been out of print for some time now.sniff!) RE: CLEANSING a DECK/ here's what I do,though w/ALL due respect; to each his/her own/// I go to my local magick shop & buy a small bundle of white
sage & proceed to light it in abalone shell, allowing the cards to
pass thru the smoke, while saying a little prayer,YOU DO NOT have
to be of any professed "religion" for this;just sincerely ask(your
Higher Power, angel/guide,etc.)to banish/remove any & all negativity from the cards & to "clear" the last persons' vibes...The
sage is kinda' like givin' the cards a "spiritual- shower!" (Can't speak 4 everybody,of course, but mine LUV IT!!! Keeps 'em "fresh") I ALSO keep a small smoky-quartz inside my 2
main cards' bags @ all times. This helps keep my 2 "faves" grounded, cleansed & protected @ all times & it's beautiful (only $3 @ ISIS. I
reached them on-line & requested their free catalog) B-4 I 4-get; U DO
NOT HAVE TO HAVE AN ABALONE SHELL(ALSO from ISIS!) for burning sage;they just
happen 2B GORGEOUS (in my humble opinion) & make great incense holders, too(which I use a TON OF,chuckle!) IF you don't
have an occult shop in your area, fellow Aeclectians...help me out here... I know IF ANYBODY would know of an on-line incense/herb
shop for sage & IF you're interested, they would be able to help. I
KNOW Isis also carries sage; I just remembered.ANYWHO... that's how I do my li'l ritual;works for me & keeps my cards singin'(smile)ALL MY BEST, & KEEP THOSE "???'s" FLYIN'!!! smokey...

Hi panadoll, and welcome to Aeclectic!
You've shown excellent taste (IMHO) in choosing the Tarot of Prague; it is a wonderful deck and looks much better in reality than in the scans- I'm sure you'll love it. I like the coating used for this deck, but it is different than most slick, plasticy coatings, it leaves the cards with a more "papery" feel. I happen to really like that texture, but I would be sure to make anyone handling the deck do as I do before handling any of my decks myself which is to throughly wash and dry my hands. I will also, of course, only lay them on a clean surface (cat hair doesn't count:-)
