I've noticed something...The more I get into Tarot, the harder it gets for me to control my...urges...It happens when I see a Tarot deck...Some impulse inside me just snaps and triggers me to buy, buy, buy! I can't control it!!! It's...it's taking over my life! I've never been like this since I was 7!! And it IS like being a 7-year-old again! I whine and pout everytime I can't get a deck that I want WHEN I want it! :( Why???
What's happening to me??? Am I the only one with these uncontrollable urges?? Please say it isn't so!

One of the best cures is to buy numerous decks for another person. Like ME for instance. Muhahahaha.

No, this is entirely new on me. You will find nothing of this nature if you read the wishlist thread in the 'Tarot Decks' forum. Honestly.

Guuuuuuys!!! I spent, like a hundred US dollars (US$ 1 = 55 Philippine Pesos @_@) in one month... :( Why? Why? I probably won't have enough money to finish college now! I'll probably have to go into prostitution! Or get a Sugar Daddy! :(
And what's worse, I can't seem to find the ONE deck that's gonna make me stop! IS there such a thing? IS there a special deck out there that'll just end all my cravings??? :( I don't believe in monogamy, if you must know...

LOL! Again, there are a few of us already staking out various street corners in a bid to get our hands on the limited edition Gilded Tarot. Muhaha. :)

Yes, yes there is. One deck that will answer all your cravings. You just haven't found it yet.
I guarantee you that when you do, it will be out of your price-range. Mine is the Rock N Roll.
So you'll keep collecting in the hope of finding something that will do.
We probably should have warned you about this before you joined. Sorry.

Hi Kittaine,
You could look for a lifetime and not find 'the deck' - but you'll have a beautiful collection of decks. :D - Actually no eventually you will fill find 'the deck' and you'll still have a collection of beautiful decks and you'll probably still keep buying because by then you'll have turned into a COLLECTOR lol

On a serious note Kittaine,
This is quite normal for people who frequent AT. My advice is to stop now and you will be fine. No more looking at decks you can't afford. Just get to know the decks you have and don't lust after any more, don't even go into threads which tempt you.
If you find yourself tempted, pm me and I will set you straight.
Just thinking everyone, I could be Aeclectics 'Agony Aunt', what do you reckon?

Ofcourse, you would have to undergo counselling yourself beforehand. Hahaha. ;)

GREETINGS, Kittaine
Lemme Assure You...YOU Are Not Alone!!!
I am ashamed to say I literally "broke" my deceased former boyfriend & I'm even humiliated to say I would threaten to leave if I
saw a certain deck &/or set I "hadta" have right then & there!!! I
was deep into magick then(I TRY to avoid it now) and had to do a
bonding spell to break the spell I felt I was under.(I still haven't
quite figured out what the **** came over me @ that time; but it
was like I had no control... )I would hate to even think of using the dreaded word possession;I dunno' what it was; but I refuse to
let it get outa' hand again! (pm me amytime if needed;lol)P.S. (This was also like 10 to 12 years ago;maybe I "outgrew" it ,but what I did @ that time worked ,& coulda' been spiritual/psychological, &/or both...)

bwah ha ha ha haaa! well, I've been into Tarot for a little more than 2 months now and I have, umm... more than a dozen decks! ya, it started out as "oh, I think I'd relate better to a Celtic Deck" (Sacred Circle) and then it was "Oh, I think the Fantastical would be good for dream work... the Art Nouveau is SO beautiful, that would be great for love-life readings... ACK, I don't like the RWS, but i need something more conventional to read for other people, maybe the Robin Wood?... followed by Secret Tarots (which has become my reading deck 85% of the time... the Cosmic... Decameron and Tarot Erotica for obvious reasons... Mini Universal for travel... and most recently Buddhist Tarot, well, b/c I'm Buddhist and really want something that resonates with my faith..." etc. etc.
I'm still looking for that "perfect deck"
isn't there a name for our condition?
something ...holism *smirks*

I have gone through the same thing.
In the past year I have added 33 tarot and oracle decks to my collection.
Bringing my total up to 94 decks.
Before that I had gone through a 9 month stretch of not buying a single deck.
Right now there are only 4 decks I'm looking forward too:
Enchanted Forest~ not yet released
Pocket Universal Waite~ not yet relesed
Gilded~ not yet released
Jane Austen Tarot~not yet released
So I've gone from buying like crazy to not buying...then buying like crazy and now I'm in a pickey stage...not buying.
I haven't had this short of a wish list in a long time....
There is nothing that is actually out there published that I have a hankering for.
So don't dispair you'll slow down.
I realized I had gone way over boarded when I let three new decks sit unopened for weeks because I just couldn't absorb it all.
And that half of the decks I have I'll never use.
I think we all go through an opulence ~ pickey stage.
We're like kids in a candy store....we want what the other kid is having...we want it because they might stop making it...we want it because it's pretty or maybe it's THE ONE. Or it's OOP.
Just wait untill you get to your pickey stage.
That's a whole nother thread. :)

Kittaine, I have the answer. The one true deck that will resolve all your cravings. It is the Aquatic Tarot. You can see it here. And the reason this will resolve all your longings, once and for all, is because you can never possess it. The artist created it some time ago, and it has never been published and looks like it never will be.
So there it is, Kittaine, your holy grail. And now, hopefully, you understand that it is the quest that is important, and not the grail.
:)

I am sort of like this, but my sweetheart keeps me in check. I think if I bought another deck he would really have a fit. I convinced him to buy me the Ancient Egyptian only if I would promise not to buy any more until next year. I did promise, mostly because the decks I still want aren't in print yet.
Well... except for the Pagan Tarot... I wonder if he would notice if I bought it?

Everytime I go into a store that has tarot books and decks I have to forget my wallet in the car. This is the best way to protect myself from buying on impulse. That is not to say I won't buy anymore, but I'm careful. Only problem I found with this wallet trick is it doesn't work at home on the internet...hehehe.

Mysticalowl,
I do that same trick, I even leave it in my car when I'm at home too, so I won't be tempted by the internet. (we're in the boonies, so I don't have to worry about it being lifted) But I feel so ??? having only two decks. I mean who here only has one or two decks? It's not that I have great will power or anything, I just know I'll cry a lot when the credit card bill comes in and I can't make up my mind on what I want for my next deck. It has to have lots of pretty pictures on the pips as well as the majors and not change the elements and not cost an arm and a leg.
So instead of spending too much $ on decks, I spend too much time here at ATF and it's not going down well on the homefront.
Sigh...

lol, no sorry... there is no "magic deck" out there.. new decks are being created all the time and there is bound to be more than one deck you will NEEEEEEEEEEED to buy... I get a new deck, 2 more are added to my wish list..
Is there a place for tarot-a-holics like us to get help? Here we get encouragement! LOL - I'm not looking for help right now... but.... when I am reduced to "will work for tarot!" I will also need to seek help!
My only advice is... enjoy it! :) Once you are "good" at readings you can charge.. I notice there are a lot on Ebay.. I don't really know if its a good place to build clientele but its a start :) And then your tarot will pay for itself...
LOL OR you could go the "buy me a tarot deck and I will read for you" route... hey, it worked for me ... for a WHILE until my friends caught on lol!

Your wishlist will shrink a little as you read more reviews of the decks and discover which existing ones you like best.
One thing occurs to me -
If I find the Paradis Rock N Roll Tarot for an affordable price, I will buy it, then think "These cards will wear out! Lord, no! They are my flawless infant babies!" and I will buy another deck. So I guess even acquiring the Grail makes you want a back-up Grail in case you lose the Grail moving house. I think I'm going to read Rusty Neon's thread again. . .

I don't think there is a cure :p I go through months not buying a single deck, telling myself to be good, telling myself to concentrate on the decks I already have, and then I give in and double the size of my collection. :p

Some Advice:
Do NOT go into the History and Iconography forum!
I thought I was pretty content, then I started reading about all of these Marseilles decks, and the Tarot de Paris, and the Vieville, and the Visconti's.. and next thing I knew I had another 10 decks on my wish list.
I mean, how can you compare them to each other if you don't OWN them all??
Also, ignore any posts by Baba-Prague or Kat Black.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about....maybe I'll go do a reading to see if it helps me understand...so I'll use....
Tarot of the Saints....no,no....no..that wouldn't do for an addiction......
The Fey Tarot....
no...no...too, too ....full of faeries to fill one's head with ....
I know....Thoth....no,no...that's too .....cryptic for me to use here...
let's see....
Sacred Circle.... No... no..that probably won't do...
Let's stay....Classical! Tarot de Marseille!! but...
which one?
US Games?....too ugly, will distract me..
Ancient Tarot de Marseille....can't choose...Camoin 1760 limited ediction or 1995 Conver?
Too close to each other....I know....
Camoin-Jodorowsky TdM! No....no...still too much controversy...
This is really hard...all I wanted to do was figure out what everyone is talking about ....hmmm...guess I'll sleep on it ....
That's it! I'll put a Radiant Rider Waite underneath my pillow tonight....and then tomorrow...voila!

I think WalesWoman here deserves a big round of applause!!! Wow! I don't know any tarot reader who'd just settle for one or two decks! Now I do!
