Last night I had one of those wonderful 'accidents' that produce great insights. It was one of those things that I'd never think of doing-- maybe the un-sub-superconsciousness kicked in.
Yesterday my Ananda deck flew in. Lovely deck, fabulous art. Well, resisting all manners of temptation, I waited 'til evening to look it over.
I play with all my new decks in the same way. I'll run through them for a quick look at them all. Then I'll shuffle to get the feel of them.
Overhand shuffle, then look at the bottom card. I do this for a while. It's a meditative state for me, especially with cards that glide easily.
The Ananda shuffles itself.
After about the third round, I started shuffling again. Somehow I got the deck reversed. I was shuffing image side up. As I watched, cards majickally transformed one to another.
It was amazing.
So I've found a new meditation. I love those 'accidents'.
Give it a try. You might find some new insights as the Majician transforms into the seven of cups which mutates into the four of wands changing to the Chariot which becomes the three of swords........

Thanks Raven! I have never done that, but I have had some very worthwhile thoughts just dreamily watching cards turn over.

Gosh, I almost *have* done this....
I lateral hand-shuffle a lot, almost entirely really, unless it's a miniature deck. Mostly, I shuffle with the deck's back facing me. But every now and then, I will shuffle the way you describe, with the cards facing up.
It's pretty isn't it? Kinda like watching a Tarot film, a reading in fast forward. No time to think, the next card is already showing up. And then the next....
It's nice to force you out of the "sit and stare" reading method, which is what I normally do. Sit and stare is fine, but this way makes the mind *jump*~! Is it a reading? Or am I just shuffling? I like to play that game too.

What a wonderful discovery, I have always shuffled with the backs facing me and never dreamt of doing it this way.
It reminds me of those flicker pictures where each picture is a progression of the last and when flicked they 'move'
I'm definately going to try this and see what happens :D

I like to play that game too. I was doing this earlier today, shuffling cards face up. I started to notice the same cards over and over, like my shuffling was becoming less random and more rhythmic (maybe it was) but still, it was interesting. I couldn't help but wonder if I was shuffling or reading.

I do this too.
The ones that I randomly notice are usually the ones that show up in the reading!

The Ananda really works well for this and it's reading/mirroring aspect is I had hoped for when I received the Tarot of Imagination and the Via. I like the Ananda for it's softer reflective quality.
On the other hand, the Experimental has a lighter, modern graphics quality that reminds me of is surprisingly delicate and retro-graphics--maybe good anime or postmodern pop-posterish. I felt like I was going through modern flipchart of business and anime graphics.
I liked the experiment with two different decks, gave me a good 'feel' for the art.
Both the Ananda and Experimental have good pictures in their own right, but the flipper experiments had me also popping to the books. Thankfully I have the English explanations in the Ananda and just printed the English version of the Experimental booklet (it came as a trade with the instructions in German).
Hope you're having fun with your decks, not only in filmic flipcharts, but in reading spreads. I'm cutting out the separate descriptions for the Experimental in a mini notebook for a flipbook of meanings!

My 1st shuffles were face-up trying to avoid reversals :-) I was more worried about shuffling and reading than admiring the cards, I will do that, seems like a nice idea.

I was shuffling the cards this morning, the 3 of cups kept coming to the front. After I'd managed to haul myself out of bed, etc, I did a 3 card reading, the middle card was 3 of cups. :)

okay, this is lovely, this shuffling and peeking shuffling and peeking...
***whispering now***
...there is something else I've been tempted to do....
shhhh.....
Have you ever......mixed decks up?
You know taken the Priestess you love from Robin Wood and added a few majors from Voyager, and thrown in the Robin Wood Magician and the Devil, and then added Sleeping Beauty, the Death card from Whimsical...and then mixed together a deck of majors from all your faves?
Then shuffled and read them....
Ohhh, don't tell on me.....

ScarabFlight, now I'm interested to know how you select your cards for the spread. Do you hand-select, or deal from the top, or something totally different?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm wondering whether you are psychically tuning in to select those cards that you've noticed.
I have a similar experience with cards that flip during shuffling. More often than not, they will turn up in the reading. I fan my deck out (face-down) and hand-select my cards.
Cheers
