Reading for your local news

I was reading a book recently that suggested doing practice reading from the local news (a 5 o'clock newscast or the newspaper). The author felt that it gave practice and hopfully the issue would be resolved soon which would provide feedback. Does anyone do this?

I did that only one time- right after September 11th, When the war in Afghanistan started, and I sensed that something like the 9-11 commission would happen. Back then, at the height of our patriotism, people thought I was crazy for that. I have considered doing a reading about the effects of the recent revelation of the abuse of Iraqi POWs on the war, but I've decided I'd rather not know too much- I've been avoiding the news lately.

I haven't heard the idea before, but it sounds great! Of course, feedback can take anywhere from a few days to a few years to finish coming in; on the other paw, it's a great way to practice reading, especially remote readings for strangers. Thanks! I'll have to give this a try :)

I only have done it once or twice on specific news, trying to see on the cards how the situation would develop. Is a good way to practice. It was suggested in this forums time ago. I've seen lot of times on "your readings" board readings posted by Paradoxx based on the news or political issues. Sometimes are interesting to read.

I do this with national news and it really is a great way to get acquainted with new decks and increase reading skills.

I haven't tried doing it for the news, I usually can't sit through more than a couple of minutes of it (just to darned depressing) But I have done readings for characters in books and movies (alot of times with some really interresting results) :)
