Hi Everyone
I thought I would post a link to a wooden tarot cabinet that I handpainted and stained to shaire with you all :) .
http://home.comcast.net/~lee_and_sam/Cabinet/cabinet.html
The Cabinet has a removable front panel with a painting on each side. One side is a wonderful rendition of the Fool Card, the other of the Hermit card. Both are done with bright acrylic paints with iridescent highlights throughout. The panel can be inserted with either painting facing out, and as the pictures show, the other painting is visible when the cabinet is opened. The Paintings have been sealed with two coats of a satin varnish. As you can see, there is plenty of room for a large deck collection. A total of 36 decks fit easily inside - more if you have lots of miniature decks.
The Dimensions of the cabinet are: 15 inches wide at the base, by 23 and a half inches tall, by 5 and a half inches deep at the base. The internal dimensions are: top shelf 11 inches high, bottom 9 and a half, by 11 and a quarter wide, and three and a half inches deep.
I think it turned out really nice and it sure holds a good amount of decks.

Ohh that is gorgeous :D Too bad I don't have nearly enough decks and don't really need it :) I'll let some other lucky soul have it.

Beautiful!
Am I correct at thinking that the front panel can be removed and reversed so you can show either the fool or the hermit on the front?
Wow.

Are you taking orders?! :D
It is gorgeous! Beautifully done! Is it a cabinet that you already had and repainted, or did you buy it unfinished?
Peace,
Melvis

DolphinGirl: Is the cabinet built from scratch or ready-made?
Absolutely gorgeous; wonderful use of colours & skillful renderings of the cards! I especially like the inter-changeable front panel.

Dolphin Girl, you did a really nice job on your storage chest. It often turns out that we each have to improvise to be able to keep all of our cards. I only have some 6 or 7 decks so my storage needs are a little more modest. I've attached a photo of a small chest that can hold some 15 or so decks. It's finished in dark mahogany and has the Waite Empress figure carved and mounted on the cover. Now, if we catch the Tarotholic fever we may have to both find more storage. Hellllpppp. Dave.

Hi Everyone :)
Thank you so much for the positive feedback, it really means alot to me! Yes you are correct that the panel is reversable, you can show either the fool or the hermit on the front. Which ever one is not on the front shows when you open the cabinet up.
I found the cabinet unfinished at a local store that is now out of business. I was really lucky to get the last two that they had in stock before they closed their doors. I hand stained, sanded and painted it myself. I do have it up for sale right now and if anyone wants more info on it please feel free to drop me a line. I really love talking about my tarot artwork.
I also handpaint tarot boxes that hold two decks next to each other or four if you stack them two deep and am happy to do them with any image.
Thanks so much for everyone that has commented on it. It really lifts my spirits :)

Your cabinet is lovely dolphingirl! :) I like the idea of the reversalable pictures for the door and you have done a great job painting the images. It would look great mounted on a wall, especially in a tarot room.

Your cabinet is gorgeous! I especially love your painting of the Fool. Having more of the sheer wall of the cliff showing really gives me that feeling of a giant leap into the unknown, as opposed to the RWS, which just shows a teeny tiny bit of the cliff.
I love your Hermit, too!

Your artwork is absolutely amazing! I can't imagine how much work that project must have taken, but I admire your creativity and dedication :D
Have you ever thought of doing your own deck? ;)

Hi Hedgecub
I have actually created two 78 card tarot decks :) Samantha's Tarot a color deck created in watercolors, which is a signed numbered deck available in two sizes Large version- Size is 3.5 inches by 5 inches, and a smaller version the card size is 2.125 inches by 3 inches.
My other deck is called the Dolphin Daze Deck and is a limited edition of only 50 decks done on irredescent paper.Dolphin Daze Deck card size is 2.125 inches by 3 inches Cards are printed on a lovely iridescent white paper that shimmers between white and golden (kind of like diamonds in the sun is the way they look) They look so rich in the sun of candle light. This deck is backed by an irridescent gold paper.
I am currently working on two other tarot decks one is a classic movie monster deck that I will be finishing up within the next couple of months and the other deck I have just started on which is a art deco design also in watercolors.
I have thought about taking the images of some of my Rider Waite tarot deck boxes and making a majors deck out of them. Maybe one of these days I will get to it.
Samples of both my Samantha's tarot , Dolphin Daze tarot deck and several of my tarot boxes are viewable at my website (make sure you see both pages of tarot boxes :) ) www.dolphin-daze.com .
Thanks

I see you beat me to the idea by a long way! :)
Your decks are gorgeous :D I particularly love your first deck; you've got a definite talent with colour, and excellent interpretations of cards :) My favourite card from the ones shown is the Nine of Cups; I've never seen that card interpreted that way, and perhaps I'm just a little biased as I'm a cub of the feline persuasion ;)
I don't suppose you do prints of your cards?

Hi Hedgecub
Thank you for the compliments :) I would be happy to do a print of the 9 of cups for you :) I will PM you with more info. The model for the 9 of cups was my cat Eddie. Talk about having everything you might ever once, I am sure that he would agree a big fat mouse in his cup would def be it!
Eddie is a really neat cat! (Thought I would tell you all a bit about him) We got him a few years ago as an adult cat. He had wandered into a transmission shop where my sig other often works on their computers. Eddie was living in the industrial transmissions and they started feeding him. He is the MOST friendly and the smartest cat I have ever met. I adopted him after my last cat died and at first I got real upset cause I think it was too soon after my first cat and I would start to cry when he came in the room so my boyfriend said that he would do his best to keep the cat entertained for a few days for me to get used to the idea (now I thought I was going to be fine when we got him) and that cat just stuck to me like glue and still does to this day. We have a house FULL of antiques and breakables and he has never once tried to jump up on a shelf or break anything. In the mornings he greets me and wants to be pet for a bit then he askes to be fed. If I don't do it right away he stands on his hind legs and waves at me (paw in front of face like HELLO) and then he asks in his really wimpy voice. If I don't do it yet he will sit on my foot and try to lead me lassie like to his food bowl :) He has also never bit or scratched me once in the time he has been here. My only grumble with him is we got him to be a cat for the both of us but he just totally ignores Lee and just loves me. lol
Well now that you know way more than you ever wanted to know about him lol I will return you to your scheduled program :)

Hi Hedgecub,
I just got this deck in March and it is wonderful to work with. It looks even better up close than in the scans. And now I know another story about one of the cards, which makes it even more special.
Hi Samantha,
the box is gorgeous. Your talent continues to amaze me:-)
