clients that stare

I did a reading yesterday and the person was staring at me while I was reading the cards. So... I decided to stare back! My hands became very theatrical but I didn't lose concentration. I usually look up into a corner gathering my thoughts as I read.

What do you do when someone is staring at you while your doing a reading?

I always stare back:)

There are some who stare at the cards. Some who stare at my rings and some who stare right into my eyes I feel they need the reading the most at that point in time.

When you look at it, our eyes are really windows to our souls, and sometimes involuntarily when we come face to face with a message that we know rings true, we, stare:)

Staring in a reading is a good thing for me Words flow effortlessly and I can see whether my interpretation is making sense to the client or not.

Thanks eastarot,
this makes things clearer!

I have a performance background and acclimating to those who stare is almost easy for me, personally.

For those who do, and those who don't stare, I neither avoid nor seek eye contact, and often use the method of keeping my face to the cards when I read, regardless. It helps me to block out visual clues (client posture, facial expression) and also allows me to step into the cards a little easier too.

Staring doesn't mean anything in and of itself. I've watched many audiences stare, and many clients stare. Some stare off into space AWAY from you, that is the most challenging to me. I feel as if my energy is being deflected somehow then, dunno how else to explain it. :)

Staring can mean they are absorbing what you say. They are actively listening. Their eyes go "off" as their ears go "on".

The mistake is to think that if their eyes glaze over in a stare, they are bored. They may not be at all, they may be recalling a memory, sparked by something you just said. They may be reflecting upon something you just said that they want to hold on to, mentally.

A stare is just a stare. And staring is good. :)

Thanks to you also Alissa!

When I post some questions, I know the answer but I need someone else to tell me, for me to understand. I might have just been sorting out my question of what is the reason for staring?

Wow, that was so well expressed. Thank you:) Sometimes when I see the glaze or the crossed eye look I think maybe my interpretation is off the mark. I will keep your wisdom in mind.

Thanks allissa and ros for this thread:)

When I have complete eye contact with the querent it seems that I have a porthole to his or her soul. My readings flow with the greatest energy. It sometimes is chilling how appropriate the reading.--Tao

If it is a sexy man, then I will politely ask him if he would like to go for a drink afterwards.

Kidding ofcourse, (or am I?). })

It is good communication skills to give good eye contact. the person who is asking you to do a reading is probably also pretty desperate to hear what you have to say, so they are probably hanging onto every word you are saying and also watching your face to see how honest you seem or even determining if you are genuine.

I think sometimes when you have a reading it is a lot to take in, especially as each statement you hear from the reader, you are mentally associating it with something, thinking to yourself, yes, s/he is right!, or even thinking how you can associate it with something if it doesn't seem familiar at first.

I think a starer is probably someone who is quite anxious.

but on the other hand, what would you do with someone who laughed or looked unconvinced!!!! that's the bit that scares me out of trying to read for someone else. :-)
