*wallows in the scent of the Estensi Tarot and the Tarot of the Animal Lords* I just opened them a few hours ago. They're beautiful! I dunno how to thank Riccardo for this! There's something about gifted decks that makes them extra special compared to decks you picked and bought for yourself; I mean, aside from the obvious. I can say that Vargo's Gothic Tarot, which I bought for myself, is more beautiful than the Estensi Tarot. Yet there's something about the Estensi and I know it has something to do with it being given, not bought. This is the first time I've received such presents too. I've heard that gifted decks are more "powerful" somehow? *shrugs*

And if kindness is received sincerely and you are happy to pass along the kindness yourself, that is the beauty that shines with such decks.
I hope you enjoy both decks even more and have good readings with them. Why not share a reading with them in this post?
Best wishes and I am happy you got lovely gifts...maybe it will help ease the sting in your trades that went wrong.
Have a great tarot weekend!

I think that a gifted deck will only have more power than a self bought deck because every time you pick up a gifted deck, you'll think of the kindness of the person who gave it to you :)
I know if my mate gave me a deck, I would always feel more loving and receptive when working with it, even if it was, say, the Tarot of the Witches :D

i agree with hedgecub, i think that all tarot decks are special, but it would feel even more special if someone had been thoughtful enough to give you a tarot deck, shame ive never experienced that though.....but it is my birthday soon...heh heh maybe thatll be the day!http://www.tarotforum.net/images/icons/icon12.gif

I got one deck as a gift from a very good friend. Her heart was in the right place, but it's a very plain nothingburger deck that says absolute zero to me. It has very primitive images, and it's just not for me. While it was thoughtful for her to buy it, I doubt she put a lot of thought into comparing it with other available decks (it's got impulse purchase written all over it ...).
So, the myth of the gifted deck isn't universal, I'm afraid.

The only deck I've got gifted to me was the Diamond - it was from a very dear friend who decided she no longer wanted to read - I don't think this deck had been used but I loved it from the start. It is one of the first decks that I tried pathworking with and managed to enter the Empress. Its such a beautiful and unusual deck that even though its not one of my regular reading decks, it is very special to me.

The right deck for you is always a powerful deck! How glad I am to hear you found it! And to have recieved it as a gift! How thoughtful. I have heard a lot of wish-wash about if it should be given or gotten yourself. I just think we work better with some decks than others.

Hi Kittaine,
Pathworking is when you meditate on a card, let it speak to you and after a while you may be able to enter it. It takes practise and you have to be careful, find a point to enter a card and leave by the same way, you need to make sure you are grounded and drink plenty of water after. The Diamond was a good deck for doing this with because it has the borders - I had fun with this deck.
If you do a search on here for pathwork, you might find threads that will explain it in better detail. It used to be a hot topic on here but its not as popular now. Hope this helps. :)

I’ve received a few decks as gifts, and I treasure them. A very good friend of mine sent me the mini Hanson Roberts, and I carry that deck with me in my handbag. I love it, and it gives fantastic readings.
I received the Victoria Regina deck from my (now ex) husband. Even though our relationship is over, and far from amicable, I still love that deck. I don’t feel any ‘bad’ vibes when I read with it. (It too gives fantastic readings!)
My very first tarot deck was given to me by my brother, and it will always have a special place in my heart for that very reason. Like Hedgecub said, these decks are powerful for me because someone cared enough to give them as gifts (even if they may not care for me anymore).
