I am pretty upset... I am trying to switch all of the info from my old journal (which was just a thin blank book) into a new journal. I decided that the best thing for me would be a three ring binder that I can add dividers and sections to....but I just don't like it.:(
I bought a book on fung shui for my house and love the way it feels now....so comfy and roomy. It's bright and pretty and just feels good.....there should be a book on "tarot journal fung shui" For some reason, however I arrange the sections it seems wrong, and I think "should there even be sections or should I lump it all together?" "If I keep the divisions, how many should there be?" "Should I have the court cards seperately or put them with the suit they belong to?"
Does anyone else have problems like this? Or am I making this more complicated than it has to be? What is your journal like?
help me please....

A thick blank book with a highly random ordering inside :-)

A beautiful green book with a picture of van Goghs painting "Wheatfield under thunderclouds" up front and Vincent written under it. The green background features some of the painting too.
It's a blank book so inside it features pencilled comments on Readings I have done... While I cringed that I had no lines to write on, in fact I like it very much now.
And the first pages inside are the painting put orange coloured...
OK, enough rambling on my Tarot Journal... I guess people here are starting to notice how attached to it I am, and I have many empty journals just waiting to be filled with stories, as soon as I feel something that "fits"....

I have just an average size journal with all my info in it. I have tried to change but have never liked my new books. The original book is perfect.
When I transfer the info into the new book I always get lost in what information I don't need to repeat, then I'm back to wanting my old book again. I hate when this happens. lol

Mine is a huge red thing with a linen cover. I had two, red and purple. I use purple for my diaries so I thought red for study was more appropriate.
I just throw in my journalling on each card as it arises, and a few readings. I wrote it all, so I understand the randomness.
Bear in mind that only boring pretty flowers grow in an ordered garden, and trees sprout in chaotic forests.

i have two. one large blank book that i started for all of my readings and then i started using it for just journal entrys on what ever happens to be on my mind. So that one is really random. My second one used to be a journal for a book i was reading called The History of God and it got converted to a Gothic tart of Vampires journal only.
so all of my journals are pretty random. but i'm pretty random person myself so it fits

I have my journal in a ring binder with dividers too.
I sectioned mine as follows.
Majors
Wands 1-10
Cups 1-10
Swords 1-10
Pentacles 1-10
Courts, Page to King sets in suit order;wands, cups, swords, pentacles.
This works for me as I see the suits as 1-10 complete and the Courts as 1-4 in their own right.

What I really, really want for a tarot journal is a leather or cloth covered 3 ring binder. I haven't found anything I like yet/still. The plastic ones are just too ugly, even the good ones.
While I'm doing my deck studies, I have a large (200-250 page) spiral notebook, a different color for each deck, and I have figured how many pages I want per card - I use 3 for the Minors, 4 for court cards, 6 for the majors.
I arranged mine Wands, Cups, Swords, Discs, and I keep the court cards with the suit. I put the majors last.

My journal is a 3-ring binder with clear-covered covers into which I've slipped a colorful title page with keywords for all the cards, and other information. On the back side I'm planning to layout diagrams of spreads for specific situations and questions.
The inside has sections for the Major Arcana, Pentacles, Swords, Cups, Wands, Spreads, Selected Readings, and useful information from random sources. As it grows I just get a thicker binder. Dave.

I keep two "journals," for lack of a better description. One is a simple sprial binder in which I scratch out spreads as I do them. I then choose which ones to input electronically, divided by subject matter (jobs, love life, etc.) Sometimes they're divided by querant. I find it interesting to see how often the same cards appear for the same situation regardless of querant, or for the same person, regardless of subject.

I have a three ring binder with many dividers (more than I need right now, but I am sure the divisions will change)....
i have "course work" for lack of a better word, for exersizes, and the like that i do/find in books or online
spreads
general interpritation for stuff that doesn't fit in the other diviers
one for each suit and the major arcana
decks for wants/ and haves
readings
other suggestions for sections I have seen are readings for self, readings from others, people i.e. authors and artists, inspirations i.e. cut outs from magazines, poetry, etc., business i.e. cards, brochures
i like having the binder to put printouts, and change things around, but I also keep a cheap composition book that i can take with me on the go, and either copy out of it, or pull out pages and put into the binder.

MoonDreameR,
I do not know if those exist where you live, but I think the Atoma binders could be of interest to you. They are not ringbinders, but have at one side a row of plastic rings where the sheets are simply clicked into and are easily to move and remove. They exist in standard formats, and there exists a slightly larger version too where you can click plastic sheetholders in to protect your individual sheets.
Here is their website in Belgium (unforunately only in French and Dutch).
Love

In each of my sections I have a printed sheet for each card, with images of my favourite cards.
The I have a sheet, describing a card from a certain deck, with keywords for that card, then I have extra sheets for each card with actual reading excerpts.
I put the question asked, card position used for that card and what the interpretation was for that particular card in that actual reading.
So for each card I have a description, keywords and actual working interpretations., so i see the cards usage in different situations and how the meanings evolve.

My current journal has Curious George balancing a ball on his head. I just make entries one after the other, no organization (except chronological).
After I'm done with this one, I'll have a choice of a Shakespeare themed journal, or one with a holographic cover of Twinky the Kid (a gag Christmas gift from my sister).
I keep articles, reference sheets, and spread diagrams in a separate pocket folder. These are cheap, simple and dull, but I decorate them with tarot images printed on mailing labels. This spruces them up!

I keep track of my readings in computer files. My main file is for the readings I do for myself. I also have a file for readings that I've done for others, and another for readings that other people have done for me. My interpretations of how my daily card fit or didn't fit my day go in my regular journal (my computer one, not my paper one, because it's easier for me that way), because they often segue into reflections on the events of my day. I also created an Excel spreadsheet for my daily cards, for easy reference. I have columns for the date, the card number, the card suit (if it's a Minor Arcana card) or card name (if it's a Major Arcana card), the card keyword (if the deck has keywords printed on it), the deck, and whether it fit my day or not. To make patterns easier to spot, I make each suit name a different color. Swords are light blue, Cups are dark blue, Pentacles are green, Wands are red, and Major Arcana cards are purple. That way I can just look down the Card Suit Or Name column and see, for instance, that for a couple of weeks I was getting a Cups card practically every other day and then I stopped getting any Cups for a week or two.
Typing it all out here, I realize it sounds like a really complicated system, but it works great for me :)

I keep notes on my readings as well, but I wonder, do you ask your querent permission to record the reading, and when do you record it, after they leave? do you dismantle the spread if so how do you remember it?

It seems like there are as many different ways to keep a journal as there are people who write on these boards. Thanks for all of your replies...I have picked up some helpful ideas. Actually, though, I think I will just end up going back to the 'everything in one notebook however it comes' method. Random as it is, like Ros and Nycelle, transfering things into a new book has me leaving things out, and though it looks a little messy, I wrote it there, so I understand it.
It's weird, as I'm a Virgo, just about everything else about me is neat and well-organised....just can't seem to make neat and organise work for my journal. Oh, well...maybe in time I'll learn a way to organise that works for me.
Thanks for you suggestions everyone!

A little off subject here, but it's funny you should ask .... my best friend always asks me not to record the readings I do for her. I don't usually ask, she just knows that I record all of my readins. I guess I am close enough to the situations without going back to review everything that has happened in her life......

Oh, thank you Luna! For some reason I thought that there wouldn't be a whole lot of info about journaling available, so I didn't even do a search. Next time I will!!
