Hello everyone,
I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, but I just wanted to apologize to everyone for writing in many of my posts in english slang. I was not aware of the rules. I promise I will be careful next time. My apologies. :)
Love,
Tarot Babe

It's O.K.
We all make mistakes but this is just a misunderstanding.

Punctuation, standard spelling, paragraphing, and capitalization of the first letter of the first word of every sentence certainly aid readability of one's post by other members.
I must confess that there are some members (even longtime members) whose posts I find unreadable because of lack of adherence to these readability criteria. Generally, I skip over their posts as I get a headache; life is too short. I will spend energy to decipher content, but not to decipher form.
IAE, that's just MNSHO.

Don't sweat it, Tarot Babe. I get cranky over those things because I fear the English language is eroding. Many of us on these boards are writers and get sensitive about these things. I have a few particular pet peeves like "kewl" or people or start spelling LiKe tHiS all the time. Although I must admit I sometimes (often) use LOL or OMG, hehe.
We look forward to your wisdoms on the board.

Glad to have you with us, Tarot Babe. Some people might find it hard to be told 'no textspeak' in here, but it really helps us oldies to have it in Standard English.
Hope you enjoy being one of us on these boards :)

I just wrote a response to your post in the Chat section in regards to this issue. Basically, I called on people to understand your reasons for writing in text-messaging slang, but also to ask that you do speak in the standards of our language when communicating with all of us.
It isn't that you have done anything wrong; it is just that you have chosen a dialect which might not be understood by everyone in our group. That is why we ask for standard grammar rules, so that nobody feels left out of the communication process.
Aeclectic is here to join together people from all parts of the globe to discuss the wonderful, powerful, amorphous thing called Tarot. I am proud to be part of such a diverse group and I am glad to know that you are part of it also. We have much to learn from one another.

Hi Tarot babe
I am perfectly used to 'text type speak' because my teenageres use it on me constantly.... but... I have to agree that it makes reading difficult for us 'old timers' (myself not included, naturally :D )
Don't worry, no problem, it's just good to have you here, I like the energy and openness of the young.

Tarot Babe: No real harm done, & many thanks for your gracious thoughts!
We are basically joined by common interests that cross all boundaries. We are all students & each other's teachers as well so we can learn from each other. If nothing else, we hopefully learn to see other points of view & thus, gain a broader insight.
A belated welcome to Talking Tarot, & we look forward to your continued participation in the community!

The best part of AT is how we learn from each other, and that includes posting style! And you're clearly sensitive and responsive to suggestion--a great quality for living well.

The prelude to the erosion of the English language is the erosion of English thinking. Everyone please add this to your list of things to fear and worry about immediately.

Please, my list of things to fear and worry about is overlong as it is! I just had a discussion with another mom about the worries of "substances" being slipped into our kids' drinks at social events and how they should also avoid secluded bathrooms so they don't get "hacked to bits." (Something another mom clued me in on!) Even though we say it jokingly, we mean it to be taken seriously.

No harm done. The subject has come up in the past several times. We've got a lot of people from Europe, Asia & South America who are still trying to speak English as a second language and are completely lost when that style you used comes up. It's hard enough when they try to understand slang in another language, so when someone uses letters as shorthand, it becomes unreadable.
This is really an international community here.

Welcome to AT. Don't worry about it too much, we all use some form of slang or abbreviation at times, after all this is a computer forum :D We just try not to use it in excess as there are many people here who are not familiar with this type of language due to their age or ethnicity and find it hard to understand. I don't blame you--habits just grow on us sometimes :D

Well, I learned a lot today and here is a link to a kind of glossary of terms.
When people actually start speaking like this then we'll know we've made some retrograde steps. :D
Try it and see.

Tarot Babe, Welcome to the boards! I hope that our posts didn't make you feel bad. :( They weren't meant to, I won't reiterate what everyone has already said, but I do want to add my voice in welcome and keep posting!!!
P.S. Thanks Moongold, very illuminating. HA! Now I know what (((((( ))))))) means!!!! Soooo, thanks also to Tarot Babe for writing the initial post that spawned this one so we (or at least I) can learn something new! :D

To some extent, some people are already there, with their practice of air kisses -- kissing cheeks in the air, while saying "Mwah!".
