Tarot is so cool.....

I was asked by a friend yesterday to do a reading. Right out of the blue, no planning ahead or anything.

There is nothing particularly startling about that, but right away I was a little pensive because I have not done ANY readings in a while, let alone a live one. (read as months....)

I waited for a bit because I had to get my head into it. We all ate dinner and watched a movie. After the movie I went to my hobby room and looked through my cards to see which deck I wanted to use. I spied the off white knitted tarot bag that my best friend made me. It was made with yarn that she hand spun herself. I smiled as I reached for it and brought it to my nose so I could get a wiff of the subdued scents that still lingered in the pouch. Then I grabbed my spread cloth, my tarot journal, and a pencil and headed back into the family room.

After sitting down and shuffling my Robin Wood deck for a good five minutes, I excused myself for a breath of fresh air, ;) and upon return I shuffled a little more and had her cut the deck. I was not so nervous any more because I spent the time to get my head in the game.

She cut the deck once and I proceeded to lay out a Celtic Cross, face up. I only gave slight consideration to the cards as they were pulled and placed in thier proper order. After that I set the remaining cards on their bag and I picked up my journal and pencil.

I looked at each of the cards as I documented them into my journal and took that time to get my initial feelings from the cards.

A smile grew across my face, as I set down the journal, and I shook my head in amazement.

My friend saw my expression and asked "what?" I just said, "I love tarot cards". Then I proceeded to tell the tale that was spread before me, and it went as smooth as if I read them every day.

Oh, that sounds like a lovely time!

I hope to be able to do live readings one day.

Isn't that the greatest feeling? I had to smile while reading your story, I bet it was a wonderful reading.... Did she like it???

mercenary30  07 Jun 2004
Well, it wasn't an easy reading. She is having a tough time of things right now with her relationships.

I wouldn't say the cards were brutal, but they were blunt, and told her the decisions would be tough, and hard, but that they had to be made.

She was in tears, not too long before the reading, but when it was all done, not only was she amazed at how well the cards communicated with her, but she knew the paths that she needed to take and what needed to be done.

Interestingly, this person happens to be my wife's best friend, and the cards pointed out TWO things that the querent verified to be true, that my wife did not know about......hehehe

Like I said, tarot is cool.......

Nice one Merc...

I have had a couple of times where this kind of feeling has happened to me... it's lets you know you are on the right track again - nice..

Have you really not done a reading in that long... shame on you!

Sometimes there are decks that slip inside one's storytelling mind that becomes a light switch and va-voom! The lights begin to blink. Sounds like your Robin Wood is a fit like silk for that reading and that's wonderful!

Odd to me which decks do this. It's not always the pictorial decks and it doesn't come true with every deck and the same person.

I've read for one friend in Minneapolis and my sister off and on for years and usually what flashes is forked lightning with my sister, in a good way...in terms of my friend and his significant other, we keep it lighter and use the softer, but more family-friendly decks (Fey).

Best wishes and cheers on great times!

Regards,

Cerulean Mari

Oh, Merc! I am so happy for you:)...the bug has bitten! Isn't it a great feeling??

I am loving my live readings..but I like what you are doing, taking out my notebook and jotting down before I speak...I do ask the Q if they want to take notes, ala Umbrae...but on a CC, this is definitely a good idea.

I am thrilled for you...doing the live readings has opened a large door for me....as I said in another thread, the outcome isn't important, whether they give me feedback or not, as long as I have done my best to tell what I see with truth, a soft hand and a gentle heart.

Thank you for sharing this with us!

I agree, it rules :) I haven't done any live readings in a long while either, but I hope I have as much luck as you :D

What a wonderful story Merc, thank you for sharing..

Mimers  30 Jun 2004
Merc, you are an excellent reader!

OK, that said, I know totally what you mean. I was at work today, and as some of you know, my company went through a merger and I am loosing my job. My last day is Friday and I have speant the last month training the woman that is taking over my responsabilities. She is a woman I have a tremendous amount of respect for. We were in her office with the door closed because she had to vent. The merger resulted in a 20% decrease in salary and a demotion. The amount of work they are expecting the people that are still there to do is astrinomical. So she was telling me that she had 2 job offers that she was considering, but she said the people making the offers she did not like. I told her to take the job! I am very upset of how they took advantage of her. She is in her 50's and has 2 kids in collage and they knew she could not afford to loose her job and would accept anything.

(Mimers takes a deep breath and realizes she is getting somewhat carried away here. Sorry, just very upset by this injustice)

So I came out and said would you like a reading? She said yes. Out comes the Tarot of Prague from my purse. To keep it short, the cards very bluntly said, "stay where you are, things will get better and that the other job offer was not what it was made out to be". This woman said to me that it was amazing some of the things I said how real they were (I had never done a reading for her before. As a matter of fact, I had never done a reading at work before). She was floored.

It is so rewarding knowing you have helped someone.

What a great story, Mimi! So sorry about your job.

It certainly was meant to be that you do the reading. The ones I did at work happened on the spur of the moment.

Wishing you well in your work endeavors and sending you blessings.

Many inspiring stories on this thread. Like Merc, I find that when I do take the time to get into that tarot space in my head, the readings are far more powerful and effortless. I find this to be the case whether the reading is live or not.

Wow love that! The tarot is great! It is down right magical!

Oh by the way love your quote man! If god dropped acid would he see people? LMAO!
