This may sound SO ridiculous, but ive noticed with all my tarot decks that the boxes get battered very easily, i take good care of my cards, but the boxes seems to get tattered quickly, i keep my decks in a wooden box wrapped in silk, it makes me feel a bit guilty keeping such tools in such a tattered box does anyone have any suggestion on how to keep the box looking RELATIVELY tidy lol!! thanks

I put scotch tape around the boxes.
It's like laminating them,
works for me!

oh yeah thats a great idea! thanks very much!!

Welcome to the forums, Winewood :)

Usually, I dislike keeping my decks in their paper boxes, and often keep mine either in a bag, or just sitting on a surface like my bookshelves, in the open.

Those cardboard jobbies are kinda ratty after a while. I do keep my mini Hanson Roberts deck in it's box, and it's not old but already pretty ugly by now. That's in my purse, and it's just for protecting the cards, but I don't know how else you can protect the box besides reinforcing it with clear packing tape (like suggested).

But don't be traumatized! ;)

They came in a big box because there was a tarot book in with the set, but I keep mine in a pencil case. Its just the right size and because one side is clear plastic, I feel like my cards can "see the light of day" and not sit languishing in darkness all the time. Weird I know, but sometimes you feel like they have a sort of life of their own.

I prefer ot when the box gets a little battered. By the same logic, keeping a guitar in a hard case is a good idea. The box absorbs all the damage that could come to the cards and once the box is mangled a bit anyway, I don't mind it getting slightly worse if it protects my decks.

Then try to use the clear storage tape to laminate it. It will last longer.--Tao

thanks all, ive bought a velvet bag to keep my tarot cards in when i take them out hopefully that will stop the deteriation of the box!!

that there box has long since left this world. My original deck is in a leather pouch wrapped in silk. I kept it on my belt. That deck is over 30 years old. The sides are darkened but the cards are in great condition.--Tao

Thanks for the clear packing tape tip, ros. So simple, but so effective! Funny how I thought to wrap the kids' crayons in the clear tape to prevent breakage, but not my tarot card boxes for the same reason!
