Not sure what topic this goes under...
A few weeks ago, I was in the house my friends are renting. I had my cards out, shuffling them and studying them while my friends milled about, when one friend scoffed at the cards. He's a devout Christian and we often clash over it (I'm a Christian, but not to his extremes). He couldn't believe that I, "of all people, the most grounded and sensible and logical person" he knows, would consider dabbling in the occult.
So I told him to stop being afraid of what he doesn't know or understand. He scoffed again, appalled that I'd suggest that he was afraid. To prove it, he said he'd let me do a reading for him, however ridiculous it was.
I got out the cloth to lay the cards on, did a short cleansing ritual for the area and myself, and completely blew him away with what the cards showed us. He asked a specific question (in his mind; I didn't want to shade the card meanings), and I laid out cards showing the nature of the question, his past in general and in dealing with the situation, his present circumstances, his inner hpes and fears, and the opinion of his family and friends on it. All the cards were dead on. By about the fourth card his jaw was incapable of shutting and he sat unblinking at the cards and me.
"You've got me convinced," he declared. I did two more readings for him that night. The last one, he asked one question, but the cards weren't making sense. It was then that I asked him what was the real issue plaguing him; obviously not the one he asked. He seemed almost terrified when I asked him that, one of those "what demons have ye set upon me, witch?!" looks. Finally we got the real issue and the cards counseled him.
Two weeks later he called me and told me the cards were right, his problems were dissipitating, and things were looking up.
Never apologized, though, but who cares. I showed him that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in his philosophies.
If only he'd stop pestering me for another reading every time we talk.

I like that. I wonder how he'd take it if you handed him his own deck & told him "I'll teach you how to use these". ?

What a great story! I am glad that, in the end, your friend had an open mind. :D
Pretty cool

deranged_walrus: I truly enjoyed reading your account; in fact, love it!!
There is no sweeter "revenge" than one which proves a point; nothing like receiving feedback to attest to the accuracies.
& very astute to perceive that whence the cards do not make sense, the real issue is hidden or not being expressed.
Thanks so very much for sharing.

Excellent story deranged_walrus!
The thing that annoys me most about some peoples' responses to Tarot is not when they say it is evil/bad but when they say I am illogical, or fluffy, or somebody who will believe anything, because I use the cards.
They say that it's just a load of twaddle and I am stupid and have no sense for believing that a pack of cards can see into my future.
This bothers me because they do not understand the philosophical reasons why we can peek into the future, and they do not understand how the Tarot works, how we use it, etc. All these things go to show that the person using Tarot can actually be a very logical, skeptical person with sense.
I get this reaction a lot from people I meet at Uni, because they're mostly academics (and I study Philosophy- even worse!) It does make for cool discussions though. })

Great story, and great that you so thoroughly turned your friend's attitude around! :D
I agree with HudsonGray; you ought to try getting him into reading for himself now ;) Especially since it sounds like he'll otherwise be pestering you for readings for all eternity otherwise... :P

Sounds to me like he was too embarrassed to ask for a reading in the first place, and had to do it the roundabout obnoxious way!

_walrus, this is a GREAT tale. Your story is a prime example of one of my mottos in action.
My motto : I don't care if you believe it. *I* believe it.
GREAT job for stepping up to the plate and being willing to open your mouth and let Spirit-talk come out. :D

This is the best kind, deranged_walrus! Now I wonder if he'll actually share his positive experience with others, or keep it as dark secret ...
