A very strange shift in my looking at the Olympus Tarot. I saw the movie Troy and it made an impression on me...
The bad, shifty king (Agamenom) =the Magician
8 of Swords =Achilles being shot at by Horace
Horace = Nine of Chalices, shooting at Achilles
Horace = Two of Swords in secret guise of servant visiting Helen's chamber
Hector and his wife = Lovers
Cousin Priestess of Apollo = High Priestess
Hector's wife = Temperance
Gates of Troy = Six of Chalices
Trojan Horse = Knight of Pentacles
King Priam seeing Troy burn = 2 of Chalices
High Priest of Troy that says horse is offering to gods= 4 of Swords
Patricus, who looks like a young Achilles=5 of Swords
Achilles looking over battle = Emporer
Helen as Queen of Sparta = Empress
Probably just my imagination...there's a site that you can get a free reading with the Olympus Tarot and see all the cards..

It's nice to see new things in an old favorite!

hmm, having done Classics at college, and hopefully continueing with it next year-ish. Because of that i havent seen Troy because from what others have said, it is nothing like the book the Iliad and downplays alot of the important relationships with the gods and the human relationships blah blah blah.
From the book i'd say Andromache, Hectors wife is more Strength than temperance. She has 'tamed' the beast in Hector to have a deeply loving relationship in their marriage, which was odd in Ancient Greece, but definately those two being lovers.
Hmm Paris and Helen, i'd see them both as the Devil, being tied down and controlled, Paris by his beauty and Helen by wanting to stay faithful to Menelaus and being so blonde to not see Paris' advances.
Paris i think would make a great 7 of swords, being full of cowardice, getting what he can out of the situation without getting hurt.
But those are just ideas on the book, not the film
Blessings

The film is very loosely adopted, as screenplays often end up being that way. I understand why you might not be entertained or enjoy it...a friend who studied Latin and classics long ago did like Gladiator because it was supposed to be a loose story and he hadn't seen a better arrangement of setting and story up to then about the ancient world.
It's nice to get input from someone else who enjoys such books and the Olympus Tarot's very loose touch on tarot as well.
I did miss the immortals in the movie Troy, but this human perspective is curiously engaging. I was ready to treat it as I did the "Last Samurai"-- hopefully surprised at the secondary characters and story passage of the hero.
I think the very few adaptations, to small screen only, that worked well for me were the Jane Austen movies that I see on the American Masterpiece Theatre.
Even my following of dialogue and characters in Lord of the Rings, there was much discussion that I browsed that spoke of all the changes.
Thanks for your pairing and opinions,
Regards,

There's a new one coming out called Alexander (the Great, of course) that looks a LOT better done than Troy. We saw the preview when we went to see The Day After Tomorrow (entertaining flick!).
Here's a URL about the movie, it's directed by Oliver Stone.
