Can readings exhaust a querent?

The reason I ask is that last summer I had a reading carried out by a male reader (not sure if it makes a difference) and he could also see my aura.
From my aura he said that I was single. (At this point I imagined a little ticker tape travelling around my aura saying "she's single ya know - so blue". :D
It was a good reading - a little hard hitting, but I needed to be told and I accepted the information. He said I had some tough times ahead and I could see that for myself... Chariot, 3 swords to name but two. The following months were some of the most difficult I've ever had to deal with. I spent a lot of time crying and worrying for my future - but I was also told I would eventually come out on top, so this kept me going. I'm starting to feel much better now - and things seem to be improving again.
(Incidentally, during one shuffle, when I was to think about the person I would wish to be with, my aura flashed bright crimson - giving me away completely - and causing me to blush!). ;)
I was a little gloomy when I first came out of the reading (didn't hear what I wanted to hear) and the next day I was shattered! I was really tired. Just loafed about all day and I didn't connect the two until much later.
Can this happen to a querent? I've read posts where the reader needs to properly ground themselves to prevent from becoming exhausted, but what about the querent?
Has anyone else experienced this?
Would love to hear your views.

I believe it happens, and so far I believe it has to do with hearing the truth, or hard-hitting info as you put it.
I did a reading here for someone, and she, in her feedback, was obviously "exhausted" in a way. It's like it was "too much information" and information that she wasn't completely ready for. Although, I don't think we can receive info we're not ready for...and the first time can be a doozy.
This happened to me during a recent Full Moon reading. I thought I'd use the reading to work with the Full Moon's rising energy....what I discovered is that the Full Moon lights up the night....exposing everything you knew in the back of your mind but weren't ready to look at yet.
I'd been asking lately to be shown truths I was avoiding. Ha!
Anyway, I was very down during the reading, sad - every card was reversed - and found myself so sleepy all I could do was note the cards and basic meanings before slipping into a deep slumber.
This reaction is perhaps part of the Alchemy of acceptance; of the new, the previously hidden, the resisted. The transition into a new understanding of a given reality.

I have done a lengthy reading and the exhaustion felt was caused by the lifting of a burden. I do feel that understanding something that worries the querent can bring a relaxed feeling.--Tao

I think that when someone is telling us a truth and we know it to be true that would be exhausting to accept. The information sometimes is overwhelming for some.
I have had some people ask me how I know the information I give them because they can't comprehend anything like it because it is "new" to them.
Some doors are hard to open & close.
Thanks for the question. Never thought of it before.

When I was 16, I went for my first psychic reading. It was at about 9 or 10 in the morning, and I was well-rested going in. The reading lasted for an hour, and the news that I got was all pretty good. But when I got home, I fell asleep for 13 hours straight. I've been for several readings since then, with no ill-effects. I don't have an explanation for it, but from my experience, it can happen.

Thanks for your responses guys! Interesting thoughts and maybe not as unlikely as I'd first thought.
So far, this is the only time I can recall it happening, but I felt totally drained. I've had readings since and on those occasions I've felt really energetic and uplifted.
Do you think energies flow between reader and querent and sometimes things don't end up balanced? Maybe the reader sometimes accidentally draws energy from the querent? Sounds a bit too "sci-fi" - sucking the life force... but I don't mean it in a life-threatening bad way! Just an accidental side-effect to the energies involved in carrying out the reading.
Maybe those times when I've felt really uplifted, the reader has subsequently felt drained? Maybe it can (and does) occasionally work both ways.

Here's another question - do you think it matters whether it's an in-person reading? I can't remember, from the last time I had one of those, whether it tired me, but it sure as heck knocks me out to read for someone remotely (ie, I concentrate on them while shuffling) compared with when it's in person and I let them shuffle.

I always fall asleep whe ni just can't deal. Makes it diffucult to process deep relationship conversations.
Readings are like psychic excercise right? Some are heavier workouts than others. I wonder if being 'psychicly out of shape' would make it harder on you. hmm.
Interesting question about the difference between in person and distance readings, littlehermit. Do you mean the distance ones are more draining?

well, i guess I would qualify as being psychically out of shape! :D
and yes, linabeet - doing distance readings seem to tire me much more than doing readings in person.

I wonder why that is - do you have any theories?
Maybe the distance adds a strain to energy or focus?
Drawing the querent's energy into your space takes more effort?
More strain on the intuition?
I find it very curious.

My guess is that I'm trying, in a rather clumsy and inexperienced way, to reach out and touch the person and their question (I haven't been asking them what it is before I read), and it's exercising part of me I've never thought to use before.
