Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone has heard of or read a mystery that involved tarot. Or that the main character read tarot cards?

Thanks,

Razz

There's at LEAST a few books out, oh yes. One of them a collection of short stories that involve divination (usually tarot cards)--I think that one was published by Daw Books. They do the CatFantastic series.

Have you checked through the threads with a search on the words 'tarot fiction'?

There's this fabulously entertaining book where the protaganist's best friend is a clairvoyant tarot reader who discovers one day that she can no longer see anyone's aura. It's an apocalyptic love story set in New York City as well as Woodstock and the battle of Gettysburg. It's called The Channel and you can find it at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1882897498/qid=1090210130/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-5132228-4807900?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 .

Oh, did I forget to mention.....I wrote it! ;)

And for anyone who's into a cynical, humourous view on the end of the world, Good Omens has one of its main characters a witch who reads tarot, crystals, and has a book of prophecies.

The Discovering Tarot in Literature - a bibliography list, available also in the February 2004 issue of the Conference Newsletter has quite a number of books which include the usage of Tarot.

The Newsletter also has information on the web as to where to update this list.

Ah, Nina Lee Braden's list!
I found it originally on her website, JMD, and was trying to figure out how to search for it again. Did she perhaps take it down recently? I have a vague memory.

Anyway it's a fantastic list, and we owe her a debt of gratitude.

***I just found a link to Nina's Site, all.

I like it better myself because she rates the books
by Lots of tarot, fleeting mention only, Personal Favorite,
etc.
JMD's newsletter has a URL printed at the top, but here's a live
version:

Or watch any murder movie that involves Tarot or divination. It usually ends up as the guy visited the tarot person at Midnight, and she drew the Death & Devil Card. So the guy died and was sent to hell.

Just any murder movie, or anything invloving tarot. :p

I dont know if it's considered a mystery...there are some mysterious happenings going on....but have you checked out the 'Pual the Tarot Mage' threads written by Mercenary30 in the Tarot Games and Fun forum? If youre looking for a good story....even though this one isnt complete yet....it's a good one!!

I just finished reading "The Tarot Murders" by Mignon Warner. I read it in one sitting. It is a very fast read. I checked it out from my library. It was very enjoyable. Each chapter is named after a different card and the whole plot is about a killer who leaves tarot cars at the scene. It was good. But mysteries have come along way since 1978. I would recommend it. It's a good quick read. She has another called "A medium for murder" which i checked out oo. I'll report on that one when I'm finished.

One of my favorite mystery writers is Kate Green. She's a professor of literature (or maybe English) at a New England college and, unfotunately she's not written one in a very long time. If you can dig up three of her latest, they're really worth the effort.

-- Drat! I thought they were in the hall book case. No luck. I don't remember their names.

The heroine is a tarot reader, very psychic. In the first book her husband, who works with his father in the family-owned funeral home, has her committed to an insane asylum. The husband had gotten mixed up with drug dealing--and when a murder results, the psychic wife 'sees' too much -- too many bodies in the funeral home.

Since the doctors and administrators of the asylum do not believe in psychic phenomenon, she has a terrible time getting released. But that's only a very small part of the plot. From there on, it really gets good. The second book is even better.

I'm just finishing a novel,"Borrowed Flesh" by Sephera Giron, whose resident-witch reads the Tarot. In reality, the author claims to be a professional Tarot counselor & holistic practioner.
