My husband and I will be in DC next month, and I'm going to have a bit of spending money and lots of time on my hands. I'd love to find some local shops in order to buy a new deck or perhaps some books about tarot. We'll be staying in Arlington, VA, but I'd be happy to hear about shops anywhere within walking distance of a metro stop.
I've seen several sites about tarot groups that meet in the DC area, but I haven't come across any DC shops that sell tarot decks during my searches online. I'd rather have a "personal" recommendation anyway.

Well, within distance of a metro stop might be hard to come by. I go to a shop called Crystalis in Herndon (not tarot, but interesting with lots of crystals, etc.). There is a really great store called Esoterica in Leesburg and there is a little store called Woman's Wish in historic Occoquan. I'll talk to some friends and see if they know of any that are within closer distance to where you'll be staying.

There's also Blue Moon Stones in Hyattsville. You take the green line to West Hyattsville, and then take a bus to BMS. I gotta check which bus line and all, so I'll get back to you.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I guess I was just assuming that DC would have tons of options for some reason. Maybe those are the fantasies my 7 of Cups was hinting at when I pulled it as my daily card this morning. ;)
I'll just have to get over my fear of driving in new places and check out a store or two in the area while my husband is at his conference if I can't find one within metro/walking distance.

Hey, I lived there for 4 years, & let me tell you right now, there really is NOTHING within center-of distance! We had to go all the way out to Laurel, MD. to a little groovy shop called "The Crystal Fox". I think you'll find at least their name online. That's it for esoterica in *that* area! Good luck in your search!

hey, there. I've been to this one once, and it was when they were having the moving sale. They were changing locations, and I didn't quite catch where they were going. A pity, as they had a mountain of decks and I had no money. Watch me pout. Anyway, yeah, it's no longer in Laurel, and my friends and I are trying to find out where it went. We will fill you in once we do.

Yeah, you would think that there would be tons of shops in the area... I smell a business opportunity! :D I might think about that, hmmmmm.
Anyway, PM when you're getting closer to arriving and if nothing else, I can come and get you and take you someplace. Well, providing it's on a weekend, anyway.

This forum really is the best! :) Thanks for the suggestions everyone, and Rhiannon, thanks so much for that kind offer of a possible ride. Unfortunately, we'll be in DC in the middle of the week.
I've psyched myself up for a mini-roadtrip though, and I'm sure I'll have lots of fun out on my own for a day. It definitely sounds like a business opportunity is in DC for some enterprising person, so maybe there will be a store there the next time I make it to DC. ;)
Again, thanks for all your help. I'm so glad that I've found this forum. It really does feel like home even though I've only been here a few weeks.

*evil snerk* I love this forum, too. So many awesome suggestions.
My friends found an empty building in Bethesda. We were thinking of turning it into a goth club. Perhaps I'll suggest a New Age store, instead? We have a Wiccan in the group and a pagan, a pagan-Christian (long, long, long, long story), me the tarotist, two business students, and we're all cracked out anyway.
Or maybe we'll make it into the club, and set up a small store at coat-check. I'll do readings at intervals throughout the night to help with revenue. If the store isn't feasible, we can always ask a local store (Crystal Fox or Blue Moon Stones) if they'd like to rent out a corner and set up shop. They do something like that at Edge, our beloved Saturday night club.
Oh, I <3 youes.
