I play saxaphone in a community street band. Each month we have a monthly show with a different costume theme, famous dead people, burlesque, birds... I was floored last month when I heard someone had suggeted Tarot, and it wasn't me! The show was on Monday and it was a most interesting event. Many syncronus side effects.
The costumes where fascinating. Our glass waking, fire eating rebel djembe player had a fantastic tower costume with lightning bolts coming out of her turret hat and falling dolls sewn to the front. The bass player and tenor sax wore death robes loomingly just behind me to my left and right reminding me of the changes that need to be made in my life. The recently divorced trombone player had three swords sticking out of his coat, foam aortas flailing about and an ominous ticking device in his puntured heart. I went as the Heirophant because I found the most beautiful Red Robe embroidered with gold leaves all over at the Salvation Army the day before, and it was clearly meant to be. I took the Heirophant as initiatory shaman approach with bells and feathers and was standing beside the our horn section leader who was in his Pope costume for traditional contrast.
Our cerdo player found a whole RWS tossed all over the street a week before the gig, clearly a sacrifice for arts sake. We had them pinned up all round and onto eveyone's costume for clarification. (Those RWS's just have a funny way of turning up - has anyone else found this? I once found a still in plastic wrap deck in my bathroom who's placer has yet to be identified.)
Now everyone knows I do tarot as I brought cards for ideas to practice so I've got lots of requests for readings. My friends that came thought it was all my idea, but I still have no idea who suggested it.
And the best thing - a local reader who I've been wanting to track down came with her sign. She was very excited we were promoting the tarot this way. I got introduced and we're going to do reading exchanges and she's going to teach me! She's also a singer and she did a hip hop rap during on of our songs.
Clearly, when you're meant to be doing the tarot, the tarot will come to you!
A good time was had by all.
(Next month's theme is Beach Party.
It was my suggestion - I'm sick of wearing long robes or fun fur in the sweltering heat jammed up on a tiny stage with hot lights, no ventilation and 30 jumping musicians!)

Cool cool stuff!
A community street band…is that like a sedentary marching band?

Yes, it's shown up for me that way too.
What a lovely synchronistic story. I esp. love the recent divorce' as the three of swords!
Thanks for sharing, this was fun...a funky three of cups experience.
Or maybe the World.
Welcome to the forums!

If we had something like that here our ultra-conservative independent churches would cry "Burn the heretics!" --Tao

linabeet, it sound like you and your merry players have a great time, indeed! The tarot costumes sound a like a great idea for a theme costume party, too.

Not that there's anything wrong with a good bonfire...
We're on the west coast here. It's all cool man... Our haunt is "the Drive" - otherwise known as the hippie strip.
"A community street band…is that like a sedentary marching band? "
I guess so, though we're not very sedentary, we tend to take up a lot of space, and sound. If anyone is coming up or over to Vancouver and wants their eardrums challenged and their sense of subtlety obliterated give me a line and I'll tell you the whereabouts.
It was a great night, a fascinating blending of the 2 worlds my passions lie in at the moment, so I thought I'd share it with you all, definately 3 of cups, or even the 10.
Thanks!
