What I am suggesting is another journaling type of project, but instead of risking the journals being lost (if we have over seas people) for the folks participating in the event to mail the pages directly to those who are waiting.. there will be an order to follow.. anyone who wishes to participate may definitely join!
Each person buys or already has a 3ring binder, or folder, or something to keep the pages in.. this way you can arrange the notes in your own order.. the only real rules for the project is that people do not bend the pages.. ship in an envelope large enough to hold the pages straight. You can use any type of paper as long as it meets the 8"x11" requirement for the binders. :)
You can include:
- tarot card meanings
- drawings
- lyrics (tarot related)
- poems (tarot related)
- stickers
- spreads
- pictures
- recipes
- news paper articles
- magazine clippings
- notes to the author
- meditation exercises
anything along these lines as long as its productive to the study of tarot.. I would suggest that you search through the posts to see which decks you have in common with your buddy (person you are journaling for) and perhaps discuss that deck with them, if you don't have any in common that's also not a problem as there are LOTS to discuss.. its basically a blank canvas for you to begin working in. We will work in order.. and you will be emailed a list of names, addresses, and instructions. There are NO page limits (1-25, its up to you!) just as long as everyone gets a LEAST one.. the only thing that is NOT acceptable is non-participation or sending only a photograph/drawing (serves no purpose if it isn't explained).. shipping costs will be low as you are only shipping paper, but I do advise to check with those you are mailing your papers to, to see if they received them.
I ask for ONLY serious participants to reply! :) I am looking forward to getting to know you all and reading all of your wonderful suggestions!

Hello SP,
I would love to be a part of this. I've participated in scrapbooking circle journals here in NZ and the end result is wonderful .
As long as everyone else doesn't mind paying the postage to this end of the world!!!

Glad to have you aboard!

Committed, no problem. Serious!
I'm a little worried about there being no specific number of pages. I'd feel bad if I did only one for someone and they did 5 for me.
I kind of like the spontaneity of that though, because depending on the deck you were working with you might just have enough sparks of imagination to get through several pages of ideas.
I love journals, I love ideas in journals. Another great idea September Pixie. I am in Canada BTW.

I would like to encourage those to do more than 3 pages but by making no guide lines, you are not limited on what to write :)

Okay, I want to be clear on the requirements. Do you mean about 3 pages or more to be made for each participant, which could entail creating 30 or more pages? Or do you mean each person gets a buddy to send to and you would do 3 pages or more just for that one other person?
I think you mean the latter, right? Since your post is speaking of journaling directly for a buddy. If that's the case then several pages for sure would be wild and wonderful, with mix and match projects and stuff.
Sorry, I misunderstood that.

everyone who participates will take part in every single person's journal :) So that no one is left out... so if we get 10 people to sign up and each of those 10 do 3 pages, thats 30 pages you get for your journal! :D Again, you are encouraged to do more than 3, and write till your little heart is content :D
This will also take care of late additions.. :) Should some decide to join once the process has begin we simply add a name (I would like to add that you SHOULD NOT wait that long!) :) and people participating in the first journaling project are also welcome here :)
Here is an over view of the process:
1.) You are posting to join
2.) You will be asked to fill out a small Q&A of your likes and dis-likes (to make journaling easier)
3.) You will recieve a list of names and address in order for you to create pages from
4.) There is no time limit, but I would like to possibly limit this to 2-3 weeks per person.
5.) Mail the pages to the person.
6.) PM or post here once you send the stuff off so the person can be on the watch.
7.) When you are ready, start on the next person on your list.
:) I hope this makes a little more sence now... since you are not mailing the binders themselves, shipping will cost no more than mailing a heavy letter no matter what you do to the pages :)

Okay, thanks for explaining.
My journalling tends to be artwork with writing and poems worked into it. Each page is full but it's not like writing a story unless you compare it to an old-fashioned illustrated book. I like to use art paper or watercolour paper too, so that's gets expensive in such quantities and big 8.5 x 11-inch pages.
For me to do 30 pages of work would take about 4 hours per page, so that's 120 hours.
I just can't do it. I have a job and a small business and I'm taking college courses for my job for the next two years.
Darn!!
Thanks though, I am envious of the creative outlet you guys have ahead of you.

darwinia,
I would just like to say, no one is saying you must use water colors or even water color paper.. if you did one per person would even be more than enough :) This is a process more about getting to know eachother, sharing what we have to offer, and learning with eachother.. and of course creating pretty journals. :)
Stationary that equals the size of a regular sheet of cheap, plain, white, printing paper is fine.. you can even use the plain printing paper, or standard size notebook loose leaf, I am asking people to use this size because its the size of the average binders that people will use to house their journals and makes it easy to arrange and re-arrange at a later date. This is in NO WAY meant to over take anyones current projects which is why there are so few limitations.
I would still like you to be a part of the process but if you decide not to, I totally understand.
On a side note:
You CAN ship your journal slips rolled up in a proper tube to ship artwork but NOT bent in half.. :)

Yeah I know but that's what I LIKE to do. More than that I like to collage and mix everything in including scans of cards from the deck and papers and clippings and words and sometimes paint. It would be pretty though and have some effort, so that no one thinks they've been short-changed with only one page.
If I write something or do a poem it always involves a visual like above. Now sometimes the visual is simply a scan of the card printed with the writing for my journal, as I do with my Random Passages exercises where I smoosh odd bits of writing together with a tarot card, but I often get the urge to tweak things, like the time I put a package of Chiclets in the hand of The Pook from the Faeries' Oracle with the story I did about how he turned blue.
(Cough)
Well...I'd like to participate, I LOVE stuff like this. Just so people aren't disappointed, but I DO promise to put some effort and time into one page. The thing is, depending on the deck, it might be a purely written exercise, I don't like to pin it down until inspiration strikes. In any case it would never be more than 2 pages, I just don't want to be embarrassed or have someone resent that I sent my 1 or 2 pages instead of more.
If that's okay with other participants, that's fine. My attitude would be minimal volume but maximum effort. I'm not going to dash off quickie stuff and send it, the effort will be there.

I'd like to participate & maybe, can I include a card from my deck? (I have an extra.) This could be what I write about - I'm trying to get together some kind of text to go with it. I'd *really* like feedback for my ideas - I need bolstering as this Tarot project is unusual & I don't know how saleable it is, but it's very Celtic so maybe... *Plus*, I can include my unpublishable montage-deck cards! Yeah, sign me up, please!!! (I am going to paint those suckers, & BOY will *that* ever be WORK!!) :D

I'd like to participate.
I'm not sure I totally get it yet.
At first I thought we'd write something then mail it to the next person, who could perhaps make copies, add her own, and mail it on to the next person, so that there are many pages by the time it comes around to you again (and of course you'd remove pages once everyone had them).
This is not a suggestion, just how I was trying to figure it out.
So based on a person's interests, we try to journal something for them? Or do we go based on what's on our minds that week?
Still a little clueless, but I wanna play!

K, it is NOT ok to just copy something and send it to everyone on the list, the object is not to make everyone's journal the exact same but different... It is ok to re-draw, trace, color, and even paste images onto the paper but its NOT ok to make one page and run off 10 copies and mail them around.. you can't remove pages to someone else's journal because you aren't getting anyone else's pages but your own :) The object of this is to keep the journal "changeable" for the journal owner.. so he or she can add things, move things around, and re-organize his/her journal in any way they choose.
Artwork is something that is up to the person making the pages, if drawing similar pages, please make a few subtle changes so that everyone has a unique piece of work :)
1.) You get a list of names with the peoples likes, hobbies, and dislikes
2.) You begin making pages for them
3.) You mail the pages
4.) You let the person know either by this post or PM that you have sent them things so that they will be on the look out for them
5.) The person adds the pages to his/her journal
6.) When you are ready, you begin the next persons.
You can journal based upon their likes or what's on your mind (tarot related, please) this week.. the choice is yours, but please no entries like "well today I woke up, ate a piece of toast... then I went to the bathroom" unless it relates to some tarot related epiphany you have had.. lol :) You can include lyrics, pictures, newspaper articles, loose tarot cards, etc but please make sure that anything you are sending is some how attached to a piece of paper :) and don't forget to sign your names! :D
I hope this clears up the confusion, and I am glad to have you all aboard! :D

This is a wonderful project, September Pixie, what a great idea! Like Darwinia, I like to do journal stuff that is pretty, and involved, on watercolor paper, and that means it's not voluminous, but hopefully pretty and maybe even inspirational. I would love to participate in this project.
Hi SnogDeva, nice to see you here! Like you, I'm still a little confused. I have the micro picture clear, we get the name of the person, we make a journal entry, we mail it. But the macro picture? Are we each doing a journal entry for only one card? A different card for each person in the group? It's this overall plan I'm not clear on. But whatever it is, I'm game!

you can write about, draw about, talk about whatever you want as long as its tarot related :) It doesn't have to be The Lovers for person A and the Magician for person B and Strength for person C :) you CAN do that, but you don't HAVE to do that :) You will be emailed a list of names and you start with person 1 and work your way down :) we won't all be doing the same people at the same time, so one journal won't be complete before the others (I hope!)
I figure I will leave this thread open for people to join about another week before I start making out the lists :) You then will receive an email with basic instructions and if you are still confused at that point, feel free to email, pm me, or post here with your questions and concerns :)
All I am basically asking, is an effort to improve someone else's day, share a little insight, and get to know your fellow AT addicts ;)

Yeah but Dan, we're also running the risk that you're going to paint hearts all over everyone's journal pages. And maybe doves carrying hearts and roses. . . .and men and women sitting on benches in parks with doves flying around trailing roses strung together with hearts and balloons with hearts on them. . . and chocalate selection boxes in the shape of hearts. . . .

They were on sale, and I thought "Gee, maybe I could use these for the Tarot Journal folks..." Are we still waiting for DAN???
This correspondent contemplates various instruments of torture, including the I Ching and the book Strange Brains and Genius.....then opens the page of the book and picks......."well then get two."
Okay, now the story is that Dan is having trouble filling out his form, having also been given the horrendous burden of doing the weekly shopping by Gardener.
Wracked with anxiety and completely unable to move forward and do anything, including filling out his form to join the tarot journal thingy, because he's been given the choice of buying white nectarines or plums for the weekly fruit, we prod Dan down the grocery isle with mysterious whisperings of "Well then, get two."
Jauntily relieved of the huge burden of choice, he skips home, carrying two brown bags filled with nectarines AND plums, and feels so happy to be released from this terror of decision that has plagued him all week, that he IMMEDIATELY sits down and tells us what his favourite colour is etc.
Oh-oh, he has to choose between blue or green. . . .

I don't think chocolate is on the South Beach Diet, but then again, neither is schnapps.
My quick answers are a direct result of finally having some down time to spend on the boards ...... the last two weeks were REALLY rough at work and I went through AT withdrawal, sneaking in for a moment here and there.

Please, don't punch 3-ring binder holes in your papers before you send them.
I'm not going to use a ring binder, and the holes will get in the way of the binding I'm going to use (Single sheet coptic binding, for the curious bookbinders among you).
Thanks so much!

I'm glad you said something, I had planned to do a decorative border down one side and punch the holes in it. In this case I won't punch holes in anyone's pages.
I'm still planning to do a decorative border for people--it might be heavy though with layers, would this be impractical for you if you are doing a sewn binding?
If so I will omit it for your pages.

Are we assuming that all pages should be 8 1/2 x 11, or how about 9 x 12?
Like Darwinia, I intend to work on art paper, which is a little heavier than regular paper. I won't punch holes, and I'll leave room along the left edge for holes, say a half inch? That's what I'd suggest for yours too, D.

Whoops, I just got what you meant, Darwinia, about the border. You mean physical layers, like lace or something? In which case it makes sense to punch the holes through it.
For mine, I was thinking of a decorative border of ink, some kind of drawing, which would make more sense offset, right?

For the border I was thinking of (not lace, particularly not for you G ), a single layer of wallpaper or art paper over the bottom layer, but done with Fiskars scissors with the fancy edging and then some relevant art on top. OR just the art on the border like you are thinking of, but with motifs that tie in the theme or the colours or something.
Pre-planning doesn't work for this kind of thing so it's an idea not a formula.
Maybe instead of punching holes we could visualize the position of holes and work around them so that people who do want to punch holes can do so when they receive it without ruining the border design?
Yeah a half-inch sounds good, maybe even 5/8" But we could offset the border too, I guess it depends how wide it is and what kind of art is in the centre.
Oooooh, much serendipitous frivolity!

I would have no problem at all with a decorative border. The sewing is just 6 or 8 buttonhole stitches on each sheet, and I have an awl to punch the holes.
The binding technique I use doesn't require an offset margin, but no harm comes from using one.
Here's a non-tarot example of the binding technique. This is just a tiny, 2.5" by 3.5" pocket journal, so there are only four stitches per page.

Hi SeptemberPixie!
Thanks for trying to include me on such short notice...when I first started reading this thread I didn't realize you had already begun the process!

Hi folks,
Just wondering about the amount of pages we are doing.
I feel like I can do 2 for everybody, maybe three.
Is this acceptable....
I want to focus on quality not quantity.
I know people think as a stay at home mom we have tons of time, but, that is really not true. I seem to have time for everyone but me....and this project is being done out of selfish motives!
I see how creative you all are and I want to tap your creativity and get a lovely journal.
I have all kinds of things assembled, and am dying to start because I am oozing with excitement just to tell you what I have planned for all of you.
In fact I have started a page already, just to see what I can do and regardless of the list this page is going to someone in our group as a special gift......because of a special upcoming event......!
Can't wait to start!!!!

I had never read this before, having generally projected Ginsberg as being a has-been who latched onto Vietnam War protesting as a way to relive his glory days. So much for my bias and closed-mindedness.
I was knocked out by his poetry and praticularly the rawness and reality of Howl. Talk about being a pathmaker.
For your other question : I am doing one page with maybe some bits on the back, but on art paper or something close to that. Some art, some writing--it depends on what spontaneous combustion occurs as I go along. I'm not a proponent of pre-planning, I like to zoom randomly through parking lots searching for faces in the asphalt.

I'm sure they are different threads, because neither Peace pixie nor DewDrop are on the list of people participating in this project, Tarot Pens Part 2. I think DewDrop may be proposing a third project, unaware that there is already a second underway.

I have just gotten final addresses from all participating parties, You will be mailed instructions in order of your number :) darwinia being first ;)
DewDrop, these are two seperate projects with completely seperate lists :) The mailing list has been in place since the 2nd week of the project :) but is very close to what we have in place.
There are no limits to the amounts of pages you can create, the only thing you must do is include something handwritten (and the envelopes don't count! :P ) with your project sheet. :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More Instructions
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can create ANYTHING you like, tell them something about you, about your tarot expierence, draw a tarot card, paste a tarot card, print things out on your printer, etc, there really are no 'rules' on what you create..
Emails are being sent right now! :D

I pm'd Sulis about keeping the threads seperate, I think changing the title and adding a link to the first thread in the first post would make it MUCH easier to keep track of, merging them might lead to more confusion about who is sending what out to whom when some of us are on both lists. :)

Sorry for the confusion - the thread I was talking of merging this one wasn't Peace Pixie's Tarot Pens thread but DewDrop's Tarot Pens thread (a few too many threads with the same title). I've left Dewdrop's thread where it was - hopefully that's sorted.
Panic not - I've not gone mad :)

Hi everyone!
I noticed that September Pixie hasn't posted in the last few days, and I suspect she has become swamped with real life fall projects. Happens to us all, eh? I know we had a lot of excitement and momentum going, and I don't want to lose it, so I'm making a suggestion to get us all started.
If we look at the very first post of this thread, September Pixie told us the types of things to make for each other, and listed the participants. I suggest that we each begin making a journal entry for the person below us on that list. To illustrate, I would start making an entry for elf, and elf would start making one for ambermoon. We could pm each other for ideas, or just post them here. For example, I think I want to make elf a two-page entry focusing on just one card, her favorite card from the minors. I don't know what I'll do yet, but I'm ready to get started so that's my suggestion.
What do you all think?

Everyone,
I am having quite a few problems at home these days, my aunt just had very risky surgery, my grandmother (a diabetic) just had surgery, my mom is in the middle of 3 hurricanes, and my dog just had an alergic reaction to a bee sting, AND (yup there is more!) I am faced with some motherboard problems on my PC, which apparently has effected some of the emailing processes..
Some people werent included in the list in the first round of emails, PLEASE be aware that EVERYONE has a different mailing system and repeating your list isnt going to help people get their things done because 2 people had been left out and only the first few on the list would actually get pages.. PLEASE bare with me!!
I do have the problem corrected but I am hesitent to send from my personal email so I am asking my boyfriend to send for me, just PLEASE be patient!! :)

I'm sorry to be dropping out when this is just getting off the ground, and it's not out of any conflict. September Pixie, I understand you are having trouble with email. Would it be possible for you to just help us get started by telling us, here in this thread, something about where to begin? Shall we each start a journal entry for the next person on the list, as I suggested last week? We could each post or PM about cards we'd like each other to focus on, perhaps?

I'm terrified people will get my pages and go....that's it?
I know this isn't a competition, but even tho the tarot gods love burnt offerings I'm hoping mine don't end up that way.....

Good grief people!
This is supposed to be fun, not yet another task to complete!
I suggest you all remove the pressure from yourselves, and do the journal for the next person when it feels natural.
And on the receiving end, we'll all just need to be patient.
Definitely take a tarot break if you need one, I just did. I could prbably use another week off.
I just hate to see this turn into something not fun, which is what happens when we pressure ourselves.
Journalling can't be forced anyway.
I can tell you I for one will not send anything until I feel the flow a startin'. I'm not sending crappy, guilt-ridden rushed pages. Not doing it! Songdeva stamps her foot.
I think the real deal will be worth the wait.

I have access to the net only briefly at a time, so please bare with me), so I am a little lagging, if I don't respond right away, PLEASE be patient, I didn't abandon the ship! :)
I've started on the first person's project.. will post when I am ready to ship :)

no, I have no intention of dropping out-- I'm just having a bit of rough roads that I'm traveling now. And they need lots of focus to get through.
You'll all hear from me as soon as things balance out.

Beaming another burst of love towards Ravenswing.
Glad to know you are still with us, Ravenswing.
"Black bird singing in the dead of night,
Take this broken wing and learn to fly......
All your life,
You were only waiting
For this moment to arrive.
Blackbird, fly.
Blackbird, fly.
Into the light of a dark black night."
And the Beatles are sending you love too.... :)

I am about to *finally* get the stoopid ink cartridge for my printer - this means *I* am about to be up & running! If "wildchilde" sees this - she's at the top of my list - I have a hand-calligraphed letter to you, & I am working on an essay for everyone that I will print out; I will print out what I can with my printer. I am going to send people samples of my deck that I have thus far - a lot of work got lost because the CD I was using was too full. So I have to redo a lot of work, & am not looking forward to it! :( Oh well, them's the breaks! I will be pleased to have you-all see what I have to show, anyway! :D

Dear Seneris,
Thankyou for your lovely response.
I am very glad you like your pages, and I am breathing a little sigh of relief.
I am concerned tho, because Ravenswing did not say if he recvd his package or if he liked the contents....
He should have gotten his before you.
Just goes to show, you can't always please all the people....
Thanks again Seneris. I had fun with it. Glad you are inspired!
Ravenswing, if you really disliked the pages let me know. I'll do something different...
I'm hoping you are well, and just caught up in whatever it is that has you flying in a holding pattern...

So happy they arrived, so glad you liked it!!!!!!! :) I started the hand-lettered list on your letter before I got to that point in my essay, & just decided to be redundant, since that's good parchment. As long as that's ok! :) I hope to get your work soon.
About the drawing: yeah, I need to re-draw that card, & I really wanted to do *something* with it, rather than have it languish in my drawing-book. I wanted to give it to someone who would appreciate it - so, why not? :D Happy you are enjoying it!
Now I have to work on the next person: can't remember the handle offhand. I know Carol withdrew; well, I talked to the person, so that's ok.
Sorry I forgot your 3-card draw - I can still send it seperately if you'd like. :D
Talk latah!!!!!!!!!
Edited to add: Oops, it looks like SongDeva it is for me, too, also! :D

Hey,
it's been a while. It's taking me much longer than I thought to create pages.
I hope no one's mad at me for not having sent anything yet.
Perhaps I should back out of this project. I don't know how much longer people would want to wait for anything...

I think we're all a bit off track and doing out best. Just get them out when you can. Our weird start -then stop -then start...threw people off! :)

Ah, the guilt! Yes, I received Wildchilde's pages ages and ages ago. Thank you, sweetie, they are a treasure and lovely!
I haven't gotten my list rolling, I confess. I owe elf. I owe everyone! I really am dedicated and determined to do this, but life has inconveniently gotten in the way. So many different ways life can get in the way, eh? So if nobody is in a hurry, they will eventually get something! Perhaps even in time for Christmas... (winter solstice for the non-Christians)
So no, Seneris, I am most definitely not upset at your delay and I would be delighted to receive pages from you whenever you get around to it!

Guilty.
Only two on my list done and so many to go.
I am in for the duration too, but so many things intrude.
I'm quilting for Christmas at the moment.
and making Tarot sacks and spreadcloths....so, I'm a little behind on journal pages.
We'll get there.
hugs,
Claudia
