I just got a job as the weekend tarot reader at a local metaphysical store! I start today. I'm so excited/nervous.
Any tips for the newbie pro?

I would take your time, and try to be as precise as u can. but try to read the person well aside from the cards. like some people come to have readings just as a gag and others actully do belive in the cards. and like just try to get a feeling for the person in general. like also try to make sure they realize that u r there to help them and give them insight. hmm i would also like kinda dress the part, i know it sounds silly but honestly people really think u should look a certain way in a since. he hee
post and let us no how it goes!

Congrats Keslynn!
Make sure you ground yourself between readings. The water advice is definitely good.
Although I never practiced what I preach - the first day I read at my shop, I had water but forgot about it, plus never took time between any of my six readings.
The only other advice I can offer is stay focused - you may have wall-to-wall readings, or you may have none at all. Take any down time to read through books or your tarot journal.

Fabulous!
Congratulations Keslynn!
I wish I had some really spiffy advice to offer or to share...but the only thing that comes to mind...is this...
Never stress about a reading once it's done.
Never doubt that you helped somebody in some way...even though they may not show it.
Never undervalue yourself as a professional reader.
oh yes...and drinking water is GOOD!
Don't be like me...and go for many hours without taking a break!
You will be an excellent pro reader.
I know this because I'm psychic! :D

I take my bottle water and sit it on the table so I can drink when I want. If I don't set it on the table all day goes by. I take water with me sometimes, and ask if the client would like a bottle. Most of them do!

Very good, Chronata! you are right.
You will know you are good, if you get people coming back or sending their friends, that is the ONLY way you will know if you are good!
Never undervalue yourself also means timing the reading and charging for full time!
Stand up if you have to, to end a reading. Don't let them question what you say, just say: that is what the cards say, and mean it.
Dress professionally, they will take you more seriously if you dress like a librarian (as a friend said it once!) instead of like a "gypsy".
Bring a good book for the down times.
Good luck, Keslynn, and congratulations! Have FUN!

As a former librarian, I 'm horrified to hear such a thing~! :P What a terrible thing to say about us pooooor librarians.... }) Where's jema when I need her? JEMA~!!! Come stand up for us libarary kinfolk, and attest to the fact that we don't all dress in high neck collars and wear our hair in buns!
Ace, I'm just joshing ya... ;)

Reading your post bought back memories of my first pro readings. Time to test the mettle - and I was very nervous too.
But Tarot has a marvelous way of enforcing belief in self and you wouldn't be going pro unless you were ready.
It doesn't take long to lose your nervousness and start to see that some of your seekers are more nervous than you. A calmness sets in, the confidence in your ability, the belief in your medium and an urge to put these people at ease becomes far more important than your own doubts. And the doubts just cease to exist. No matter what else is happening in my life, I go to the best place when I read for others. But I will never forget the adrenalin rushes, the dry mouth, the total scary high of my first readings.
Congratulations
