Last night I was talking to my friend. This is the same friend who is a devout Christian and said he'd let me do a reading for him to prove he's not afraid of tarot. And when I shocked him with the cards, he became a believer.
So apparently what I said to him back in May affeted him so many ways. And he's asked me to help him with his sophomore exhibition (he attends an art school, like I said). He said he'd like to learn as much about the tarot as I can teach him, and create cards. To make an entire deck of cards will have to wait until senior thesis, but he said he'd like to do tarot-related art from now on. This year, he wants to do sculpture...said something about 3D tarot images.
I just have to teach him. Danubhe and I are meeting up in DC the 22 or 23 (anyone else in the area, leave a note, we'd love to have you!) so I'll see if he wants to come. We'll have to start off showing him the cards and the common images in all decks...
I referred him to this site. I definitely think everyone here can add lots to his research. I am so glad that this forum is up, and the people here are so helpful. Applause for all.
This was just a heads up to let you know of someone else who'll be joining in a few weeks. And why he's joining. He said he'd love to learn how to read, as well.

Deranged_Walrus: Thanks for sharing about your friend & for recommending Aeclectic Tarot!
Always a positive experience to know that one's efforts in Tarot results in not only educating another fellow man, but also offers an opportunity perhaps not otherwise available to that person.
Look forward to making his acquaintance.

........ and all this came from your reading for him........ you should be very proud. Not only did you give him a good and accurate reading, but you were the inspiration for his art project and have opened him up to the world of tarot - not to mention Aeclectic.
Nice one! :D

oh oh.. I'd LOVE to join in such a meeting, but I am too far away!! I'd say your friend's lucky to have you as a friend! :) I don't really know any Tarot expert near where I live.
My mission is quite similar to your friend, I think. I haven't had any formal art training though, and it will probably take me YEARS to finish my deck.
Best of my wishes to your friend!!

Have him check out the Gilded or sites that show the whole deck lists:

If it's sculpture, the Tarot of Paris is all about classic sculpture that ended up in Paris from many different countries. That would be a good way to check out a photographic deck with statues.
Perhaps it might be good to know his art specialty (sculpture, illustration, fiber arts, photography ) in order to find examples that he might use for his studio requirements...for instance, my sister loves paper arts and responds best when I do readings for her with decks based on watercolor and Italian designs with matte finishes or decorative paper. She originally was an art studio major, but had to switch to business to finish her studies while working.

Deranged walrus, I think you must be a very good friend and a passionate person. I just want to give my best wishes to you and your good friend who had the courage to tackle something he wasn't sure about. His art project sounds promising.
I love your name, by the way. When I was pregnant with my twins-who were both born quite large (given they were twins, given they were 4 weeks prem)-I thought of myself as a deranged walrus. No. . .I WAS a deranged walrus ! I became very sympathetic to walruses at that point. God bless 'em.
