I use the same spreads for non-tarot cards as the tarot cards. Sometimes I just take a number of any kind of cards and read them.
Do you think we need the spreads help our intuition grow and learn how the cards work?
Maybe the spreads are focus points for us until we can get past them.
Just a question.

Very good question....
I often use spreads, both with tarot and non-tarot, or oracle cards. I also enjoy creating my own spreads, designed for a specific reading and with the querent's needs in mind. I rarely use the Celtic Cross, BTW...just my own personal preference.
However, more recently I have begun to try readings without spreads....just laying out a number of cards and reading them like a sentence, while focusing on the querent and the question at hand. If there is no specific question stated, the cards themselves will tell me what I need to know, and give the querent a sense of where they need to focus their energy at that particular time in their life.
One of the decks that works well for these "free form" readings is the Answer Deck. I could not imagine trying to use a traditional, tarot spread with these cards....maybe others have tried it, but I like to pull three cards and read them as a group first. Then I usually end up pulling a few more....the hard part is knowing when to stop!!! :) Interesting cards to work with.....
So, to answer your question ros, I think that in certain situations, and especially with non-tarot decks, it is sometimes better to just read the cards and not worry so much about using a spread.....
Just MHO of course....everyone's reading style is different!!!
