I came across this today: http://www.tarottools.com/archives/000021.html

It might be of interest to anyone doing fiction writing & wanting to set the characters up with a little more depth.

Thank you HudsonGray, that sounds like a very interesting idea and I may use it someday :)

We are always searching for writing exercise ideas at my Writer's Group. Thanks for the link, HudsonGray.

I seem to remember Red Emma started a thread along these lines last year. Very stimulating :)

Thanks, Hudson...good site. Saved it and printed out Template, too.

These are things one looks for and can't find when it's needed

Thankyou Hudson Grey, I printed out the template.

I really like the way it clarifies 8,9,10,11- Primary Strength, Critical Flaw, Motivator and Problem Solving.

These I feel are the elements which if used correctly help create the seeds of JEOPARDY in a story- the tension which is always there as an undercurrent which keeps us wanting to know more.

There is more to the story than . . . the character(s). We also have a story line to deal with. So, the task is to next come up with the components that go into a story line.

Opening Grabber.
Overall story theme.
Sub-plot.
First crises point.
Final crises point.
Basis of interaction between designated hero and villan.

Any more suggestions?

Dave.

I've written a couple of stories using the tarot, although I haven't tried the character creation template yet. Here's the list of components I used for one of the stories I wrote using the tarot:

Main character
Issue in his/her life
Secondary character
Issue in his/her life
Relationship between the two characters
Story premise
Main story events (I drew 3 cards for this)
Resolution
How main character changes
How secondary character changes

Interestingly enough, I drew a court card for both the main character and the secondary character.

But I used suit by suit for 'chapters' and ace through ten as my order. For instance:

Romance Ace - Swords - Main character's idea to start a flirtation which might be for the wrong reasons.

Romance Five - Swords - Main character's escalated relationship to betrothal--changes that happens are more serious now

Romance Ten - Swords - Main character has nightmare of impending disaster, but does not reveal it to betrothed; a separation happens that is supposed to be minor, but ends up having other backlashes. Story action moves on to another suit...

I'm redesigning the majors to reflect pivotal themes in the story. But the minors actually are used to build the main novella.

Regards,

Cerulean
