Hey people!
I am planning on starting designing web sites for tarot readers exclusively in the near future and i would like to know what are the best looking tarot sites you have ever seen?It doesn't matter if the contents are crap what i am interested in is the visual appeal. Thanks all

I like Atra's site, www.worldtreeproducts.com the Key is fast loading, IMHO. Stay away from Flash. If it takes too long for my old dial-up browser to load it, I skip it.

I'm going to be honest. Most websites related to tarot or just ugly. But because they are so informative, you ignore that. The best looking site of tarot is actually Aeclectic. I'm not sure how good you are layout-wise, but just remember to keep it organised, give it a clean look and use normal fonts and normal colours. I know a good site that uses flashy green as font colour and it's really painful to the eyes! If you like, I can give you some links of other sites than tarot that are visually attractive.

Hi, Aeclectic site for me is the best because it is organized and easy to navigate, you won't get lost.

I'm all about sites having a simple layout.
I have some friends who are blind and read the screen with a device that translates one line at a time into braille. Text that's rendered as a graphic image, instead of plain text, is inaccessible. So are some other tricks that might make for a more visual experience, but are impossible to render in braille.
Clear, easy-to-read fonts and good color contrast between the text and the background color have already been mentioned, but I'd like to second those emotions, too.
I used to know a site that you could submit a page to and have it "test" the web page's accessibility to disabled computer users, but I can't remember what the name was. If I do remember it, I'll come back and post it here.

Guys? when you are designing sites will you do me one favor?
Make the background ANY COLOR EXCEPT BLACK!
It drive me crazy: why do people all think that is soo chic-chic?

Aeclectic wins for me, with its clean, uncluttered look and colour harmony.
I prefer black text on white pages (yes, I'm a Luddite stuck in the book mentality!) but white text on a pleasant background also works. The best tarot sites I've found are Robert Place's Alchemical Egg (can't link due to a bandwidth problem) and the Tarot of Prague site http://www.tarotofprague.com/home.html . Non-tarot sites - Metafilter http://www.metafilter.com/ and Making Light http://www.nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/
If you want a standard to aim for go for the big guys - Google. Clean, clear and simple, and you can't ask better than that.

Well that's most definitley true there are many sites with deep content that i have bypassed bcoz they were so boring too look at.I'm sorry but a bad looking site with good content is like a plain looking girl with a deep personality unless you go out of your way to get to know her you will often bypass her.But if you got both looks and content you are set!

Apart from Aeclectic and the Association for Tarot Studies sites (for each of which I am of course a little bias), I find Huck's Trionfi site, and the Tarot Garden site, exquisite in their own way - and of course, there's Major Tom's.
A number of what I consider really worthwhile Tarot sites are also listed on the resource page of the ATS site (the list is of course not exhaustive and many of the presenters to the forthcoming 2005 Conference also have their websites which really is worth a visit).
PS - I personally think ATS and Aeclectic have both looks and content :D

Well (i would say that) for something really simple and succinct I like
www.mysticali.com
but for a good looking flashy intro i found
www.spookysue.com
and liked it - but there is no real text on tarot and you can't see the cards / the card process does not exist - but i guess that won't worry you - happy hunting!

If I may be so bold as to offer my own site up for the group's delectation: http://hermgirl.bravehost.com/
I am by no means an HTML wiz (I am just learning), but if you click on the link that says "Tarot Page" I did do the coding for the (admittedly simple) table myself. On the right hand side I intend to put a menu with many articles which one would just have to click on to take you to the article page. I have one article in the can ready to go with plans for one more in the very near future.
I intend to grow from there--I'd be interested to know what people think.

Sorry, Hermgirl - black text on that shade of purple is completely unreadable!

Not really. You might be better with white text - at the moment I can't read the page without highlighting it.

If you make the text white, you can darken the purple back to the shade it was before, too, so there'll be even better contrast between the text and the background.
Look at how easy it is to read the AT message boards, which have pale text on a dark background. The text might not have to be white as long as it's a very pale color that stands out nicely on a dark background.

hermitgirl looked at your latest innovation what i think is that you need to lose that backround it is way to bright.readable but bright.what font are you using.usual arial, helvetica reads best.Otherwise it is good for a starting effort. You could take a pic of a tarot card fade it in photoshop/fireworks and make it your background.
