Hou would *you* handle this?

Again, this was "Angel Blessings" which is nothing like Tarot, but I believe that the question applies across the board:

As I put in another thread, I just recently sold a reading on eBay for 6.00 with this deck. Whether Tarot or non-Tarot, how would you handle this?: The person never contacted me at *all* subsequent to payment. I tried 3 times to get something about the person - to this day, I know *nothing*. I don't know whether the person was just busy, or if maybe they did it deliberately ("to see how 'good' I am"...?). Anyway, I finally just went ahead & drew 3 cards. The funny thing was, they made sense anyway - to *me*, at least! I don't think I'll be hearing from them, other than the manditory feedback of a small sentence in length you are obligated to by eBay.

What does anybody here think? Did I do the right thing? What would *you* have done?

(P.S. Let's wait until the verdict is in feedback-wise! :( )

How long did you wait? I would give them a full week. If no response then give them bad feedback and report them to Ebay. Its not only a waste of your time but a waste of your money.

I had this happen to me. Not with a reading but a 200$ gaming console. The guy bid up the price and then said it wasnt him that did the bidding. GRRRRR

floracove  07 Oct 2004
Since your doing auctions, maybe you should put some sort of time limit on it, like say,
After winning your bid, you should contact the reader for input.

*shrugs*

At least that way you are not left hanging...

I just thought of this, actually - I think I will go ahead & revise the ones I have left there - thanks, floracove.

& Jenni: The thing is, *especially* for a thing like a reading, I *dread* bad feedback. Mine isn't entirely spotless - I have been with eBay since '98, & in that time a lot can happen. I had a *BAD*(!!!!!!) experience with 1 seller (he *refused* to arrange payment with me, & then put "BAD BIDDER!" alerts all over eBay), & then I was thrown into the hospital for a month, then subsequently homeless for another month & 1/2 or so, & not a *thing* I could do about my bids I had up. So I have a little negative feedback. I was even barred from eBay (!) for a while consequent to the hospital stay. So, I would like to keep my feedback as spotless as possible. So, no input: It still made sense. I just hope that the person is satisfied!!

If they've paid and you didn't get a question from them, after trying to arrange for a question more than once, then I'd say go ahead and do a general reading.

And in the feedback, presuming that they paid promptly, give a positive feedback for their prompt payment and then mention (if you feel it's necessary), "I didn't receive a question so I performed a general reading", or something along those lines.

Is this a sort of deck where the person NEEDS to ask a question in order to have a proper reading done, or can a general "catch all" reading be performed?

Diana  07 Oct 2004
I have deleted the original post above because I realise I had misunderstood the problem.

Or did I?

I'm confused as to the exact problem here.... is it that you never received a question? Or is the problem that you never got feedback from your reading?

Sorry!!!

Sulis  07 Oct 2004
I think that if you'd received payment then you were right to do the reading.

I think that if you require the person buying the reading to tell you about themselves first or give you a question or something to focus on then you should make sure you let them know this before they buy the reading (ie in your original post).. I don't know whether you did this or not.

Love

I'm pretty sure I did! But I find it unusual to get absolutely *no* response whatsoever from anyone doing eBay. The last time this happened, the results were nasty. (I was on the buying end with that one - thus, not much I could do.) To Diana: You were all right, & yes it was the question that was missing. I'm kinda dreading the feedback! - One can only hope that it will be bland & non-committal.

I wouldn't say that this deck necessarily requires a question per se (although the spread I used was actually "Ask A Question"!), but I like to at least have the person put in *some* kind of appearance somewhere along the line before I do a reading. Besides of which, I'd just rather be responded to - it's just a matter of common courtesy. Well, when the "verdict" is in, I will be sure to report what the person says, exactly! In fact, I think I'll check my feedback now. (Still nothing, & it's been since this morning!)

Thanx for the support, guys!! :D

Maybe this was one of those people who expect a tarot reading to be done without a question. They think it's not a "real" reading if they communicate anything to you beforehand. I've had that happen to me.

I'd do what one poster suggested-----just give them feedback that there was no question so you did a general reading. I wonder if you can contact ebay and just let them know what happened. I don't really think you'll be given bad feedback if you did do a reading for the $6. After all, that's what you offered and that's what you gave. I wouldn't worry about it.

Vilyariel  08 Oct 2004
yeah, i agree with those suggestions.

maybe next time state in the auction details that it helps you to focus your mind more easily if you have a question beforehand, and then you can use a more appropriate [or 'themed...ugh, sounds horrible, but you know what i mean] spread so that they will get more concise reading on a certain area of their life [then they wont have the confusion of, 'well gee, this could be the bike i sold last week, or maybe it's my marriage?'

hope this helps

blackroseivy  08 Oct 2004
I haven't gotten any feedback YET - but they *have* to leave it, so I'll just keep checking.

WalesWoman  11 Oct 2004
The wonders of Ebay never cease to amaze me! I never would have thought of readings there, new decks and books but an auction for a reading comes as a total surprize.

Kudos!

I have two comments to make here with the caveat that I don't know e-bay at ALL, so I could be completely wrong.

One is this: you can't do a reading with the fear of bad feedback. If you do, you will pull punches and not be as faithful to yourself as you need to be. It can't matter to you that the querent doesn't like what you say. I know that is not what you were thinking of, you were worried that you didn't read what they wanted to talk of, but I see it as the same difference.

Second thing is a suggestion: why not sell a certificate good for a reading, at a time and place of the buyers choice (within guildlines) instead of selling a reading? I offer gift certificates good for one reading at my regular price of a reading. I spell out that it is for ........this amount of time, and that the receiver must call me and set up an appointment to get their reading. You could do all this by e-mail or whatever. The certificate is good for 6 months after purchase, they can use it or pass it on. I keep track of a number that is in the upper corner, they tell me the number, I say let us go ahead.

That way, if the buyer doesn't want a reading now, they can use it when they DO want it. And you still have some control.
