I offered to do readings for charity last night

Last night I offered to read cards for a fundraising event that's coming up soon. It's for a person I know, the webmaster of a hockey fan board where I post, who has generated a tremendous number of medical bills while fighting cancer. So far, he's doing well, knock wood, but his medical bills are through the roof. So there is a benefit event being planned that will split the proceeds between alleviating his bills and also a cancer-related charity called Hope Lodge. I wanted to be able to donate more than just the money for the admission ticket, but spare cash isn't all that easy to find these days. So I offered to do readings at the event instead. I figured that if I can't DONATE money I can help RAISE money, which will amount to the same thing in the long run: money going to support two good causes. :) I'll post here if they take me up on my offer to do readings. There'll be other things like games, music, and a tattoo artist(!) available, so having a card reader on hand should fit right in. ;) Also, if anyone's interested in finding out more about this charity: I'm not sure if I can post the link here since I'm not a subscriber. Shelikes2: Offering to help raise money works as that gives of one's time, a valuable resource & a precious commodity of itself! Hope your offer is accepted in the spirit given.

That's a lovely idea Shelikes2read! hope it is accepted and you can help with this charity. It just came to my mind you can distribute flyers or your contact information among querents so you can get future customers while helping this cause.

It is a wonderful idea. I have been wanting to get more experience reading face to face so I might copy your idea. I am far from a professional reader but I've read many of threads here about what people do as professional readers recently so I could have a go. Some real thought will and preparation will need to go into this. Don't want to turn people away from ever giving at a charity function again :D. But it does seem like a fun way to get some practice whilst doing something worthwhile. As a non-professional I wonder what I could charge - a donation perhaps or what? What I might do is go to a local group and talk to them about it. Then perhaps I could get their approval, a receipt book and park myself at the local market on Saturday mornings, under an umbrella of course. You're an inspiration . shelikes2read :). I have been wanting to do something voluntary for a while and this would bemore enjoyable than sitting on a committee or cooking sausages at a barbecue. It may provide a chance to dress up a bit as well. Thanks heaps :)
