So... I sent out some e-mails appling for jobs reading at parties this halloween. And I just got a responce asking me to read at this one particular one, and im so psyched!
I actualy KNEW this one was gunna happen, so strongly that I went out and bought some suplies last night.. a cloth to do readings on, and some small portable candles (I hope I can use them here though..)
This is going to be my first party where im reading for people and im like, way too excited! hehe!
Anyway! im gunna be reading from 8 pm to 2 am (which is gunna be a push, but thats okay)
Anyway, any tips or sugjestions for me?
I figure I should give cheap quick readings for many people as well as bringing a business card so that I can get my name out there and start to get some clients.
Any ideas on how much to charge and how long to read for people? I know there are gunna be some other "psychics" there (Palmists, other card readers, etc..) so im not sure what to charge or how long to read for people....
Anyway, any input is apperciated. :)

Gah, one other problem.... Anyone sugjest a "type" of deck to read with?
While my collection is decent, its not, well, by any strech of the imagination, complete....
I actualy bought a copy of the Phantasmoric Theater Tarot to use to read at parties, but then I fell in love with it, so now I would cry if anything happened to it, and at a party, that is possible...

The Rohrig Tarot might be the perfect party deck.
No need to worry what people think, it's a doozy.

*Take the deck you are most comfortable reading with.
*Drink lots of water
*Make sure you take a few breaks and walk around.....even if it means people have to wait for you to come back.
*Two good ways of charging is by the minute or by the reading.
A dollar a minute is customary, or you can do a flat fee reading like $5 or $10 for 10 minutes.
*If you do minutes bring a little timer.
*Bring some snacks with you, 6 hours is a long time.
*If you don't have the time to print business cards just a flyer you can print off on the computer works just as well.
*Stay lose, have fun, and bring your great sense of humor!
Best of luck I know you'll do great.
I'll be doing a 2pm till 10pm Holloween Bash in full costume on the 31st so wish me luck. :)

Congratulations Steve!! and good luck to you and to lark!! and everyone else who is doing a party that day!
I am going to be doing a Halloween Party too, although mine is for a good friend. There will be some people that I know, and some that I have not met before, so it will be good experience! I think I will be getting paid in bottles of wine and things like that rather than acctual money though, lol.
I'm going to take my Halloween deck, my Morgan Greer (its creepy by candlelight) and prehaps a few more that will come to mind.
I am really scared about taking my precioussess though! I know what you mean about that. If anything happened to my Hadar Marseille, I would be inconsolable!!
I am going to do 10-15 minute readings I think. Just going to use small spreads, no more than 5 or 6 cards.

good luck!
I have found that i need 2 decks minimum because a deck gets a bit "sticky" after a while so i alternate them. i also take a bit of protection with me. ( not a blunt instrument type of protection) more a good quality crystal or 2 to negate bad vibes. overall dont forget to enjoy yourself

Cool news Steve! Good luck and have a great time! Same to Lark and Charming Pixie too ;) OD, that is a great suggestion to take along a crystal or some sort of "protection".
I have been trying to decide if I should take one of my decks to a party Saturday the 30th. I haven't been "hired" :) but thought it might be fun and interesting just to see if any body gets into it. If I do it, I will certainly be taking along my new Tarot of the Dead! It is definitely the perfect Halloween deck;)

You've already had great advice, I just wanted to wish you luck and blessings and for you to make sure you have some fun!
I read at a pub one Halloween in Edinburgh, it was fun, and the readings were for donation. The money was going to a Cancer Charity.
I did my best to inspire the 'tipsy' folk with postivity, didn't want to see any drunken downers...LOL...

Good luck, I hope it goes well!
I agree, take whatever decks make you feel most comfortable, and take more than one.
Have fun, and I hope everyone else does too.
