Does anyone out there @ AT know if Joan Bunning still has her free on-line course to help these two?(used to have her bookmarked...but changed services along with new pc, & it got lost!)
Personally,(IMHO) why go to a paying school when there was (@ one time, anywho!) way- cool, free on-line courses?
I did once belong to the "A merican Tarot Association", & under the help of a private "mentor" felt like I learned much more than I did before becoming a member...but after "passing" my tests; I switched here instead, where I am Still, (and Always!) learning!
Sorry, I have absolutely No knowledge of an actual school;(where
one actually Attends) if that is what you mean... just wanted to share the little bit of experience that helped me @ one time. blessings

My feeling is that the best intro to tarot cards is:
"(Your name) I want you to meet tarot cards, Tarot cards meet (your name). Now, why don't you two go off and play?"
It took me a long time to get past the idea that there was ONE meaning for each card (even thougth the tarot teacher tried to tell us that these were just starting points.) I DID find out in the class I took that I was a pretty good reader (I knocked the pants off one guy in the class who really disliked me....)
But although I have taught intro seminars (About 90-120 mins), I concentrated on spreads and trying to read. (I started them with one card and we worked up.) I think we need to learn to explore on our own (a class on tarot journalling perhaps!) instead of being taught.

I'm not sure about classes and how much they are worth, but it's always a good thing to be able to discuss tarot in group. But I don't feel the need to go to meetings to do that. I'm currently following the free BNU online tarot course and it's great that you can discuss with other students.
I think a good book, a deck and someone to talk about it is all you need to start learning tarot. Maybe you don't know anyone in real life that will interest it, but there are several online tarot communities where you can talk about it, including this forum.

when you think about it, this whole forum is like an online classroom. it's excellent, you read for people, and get constructive criticism and feedback. you also get a multitude of opinions, which are invaluable. life experience can't be learned from a book. Even if you look at the Let's Marsailles threads, or the deck study groups, maybe that'd show you the kinds of things people want to learn? the questions asked, how the lessons take shape...

Hi Loveinspirit,
Tarot classes and how to teach them has been mentioned on here before. Maybe having a play around in the search engine will find some of the threads.
I remember one thread based on taking a card and getting the students discussing what they could see on the card, starting them off with a journal might also help them remember individual cards and get them used to keeping a journal. Hope this helps.

I'm currently taking a Tarot course, 3 hours a week, will be 15 sessions, the first 3 were about what's a myth, what's an archetype, introduction to astrology and the different divinatory methods, then the next 2 classes were for the 40 pips, the next sessions will be for the majors, then the courts and the last 3 sessions will be for reading practice.

I took the course on Barnes & Noble. com, which is based on Joan Bunning's book. I really liked it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in it. I believe it's the same one as is on learntarot.com.
But I also think that Thirteen's card descriptions here on AT are every bit as good as the online class. What I think we all need is lessons or practice in meditation and listening to our own inner voices. That would cover just about every question there is on tarot. :)

One of my friends took a class and the teacher taught them that the pictures on the pip cards were taken off (!) in response to repression by the Catholic church. So don't believe everything a teacher says just because they are teaching a class.
