....in my intro. encouraged me to post, (although the other responders sure made me feel open to it, as well)
so I'll relay this short, silly story:

I am baby-new to tarot, (I just recently purchased my first deck) .
Anyway, my friend Nancy came by one evening as I was studying my deck and the Fool card happened to be laying on top.
She doesn't know anything of tarot and jokingly said, "that's me", referring to The Fool.
(What is so funny is that Nancy is at a bit of a crossroads in her life, with so much going for her but a lot of decisions to make and bridges to cross.)
So I told her, "Wow! The Fool is amazing, he/she is on a journey all through the world and beyond. The Fool is what the tarot is all about. It is a good card."
She seemed kind of interested so I printed out Thirteen's descript. of The Fool and also some color cards so she could have them. It made me feel good that I at least knew enough to let her know, "Hey, we may all be Fools at some time in our lives ~ keeping careful not to fall off that proverbial cliff, but our journey teaches us much. We will have highs and lows but with our intuition to guide us and a little bit of common sense we can all make it through this struggle called life and gain perspective and wisdom in the process).
She is currently living in a bad part of town and is considering moving in with us here. (We have the room).
I know it musn't sound like much....but she gave me the gift of unintentionally being my first querant. And that is very exciting for me....as I still have MUCH of tarot to learn. Can one card really mean so much?

A card means as much (or as little!) as you perceive it to mean. It's all about context. If all you needed was 1 card to tell the story, well then! ;) Sometimes 1 card is as much as you need for a question, too - all the cards are packed with meaning!

Well done Ilex, nice one!

It took me a very long time to get up the courage to read for someone else, other than my immediate family. That was out of the blue too.

I had a friend round, we meet occasionally to spend a day stitching and gassing. I remember telling her that I did Tarot the last time we met, but this time she asked for a reading. Completely took me by surprise.....and well......you can't say no can you?

I had just received the Gilded the day before so I showed her it and did a 3 card reading. The spread was all family orientated. After the reading she told me that two of her three boys (well men, they are in their early 20's) were leaving home, and how she was sad to see them go. It also brought out her sadness. To say I surprised myself was an understatement!

Here's to the rest of your Tarot journey....

yes.

Great reading by the way. I have done one card readings, once I was at a place where I had to work very very fast, so I pulled one card each and did 20 people an hour (3 mins each, including time for them to sit, get a friend to take a picture of them with the "fortuneteller", get read, and get up again). It is actually a good disipline to do it.

LOL- at times it is one card that will speak volumes!
If you look to each major card, I'm sure you can find that they hold various moments through our lives.
There is also this 'thing' called a year card. Everyone has one and it changes every year- there are different schools of thought as to when it starts (beginning of the calander year vs. starting on a birthday). To find the year card add the numbers of the month and day of birth and the current year (or year to be looked at)
SO for example- March 4 2005- would be
>0003
>0004
+2004
______
>2011____so then 2+0+1+1=4
this would be an Emperor year.
If you end up with a double digit 10-22 DO NOT reduce- these numbers also apply to the coresponding cards with 22 being the Fool.
I wonder what year card your friend has.

BRAVO ILEX!!

Well done on your first reading!! Isn't the Fool wonderful? It is one of my favorite cards.
One day a couple friends and I laid out all the majors and pick out which one we would like to be and I said the fool :)

My best friend always laughs when I tell her I want to be the Fool ;)

Well done! I agree.

Sometimes, I am just talking about Tarot, pull out a deck and am showing friends cards...next thing I know, they are asking for at least a one-card pull. They'll say, "What would you get if I drew just one card?" And we're off and running.

It's so much fun to introduce live reading this way to people we know.

terri

Keep up the good work.
