Yes, Madam Zelda (aka Songdeva) appeared again at Pumpkinfest this year to read for the kiddies ($2 for kids, $5 for adults, to benefit the Friends of the Library).
Madame Zelda did not dress up this year, and her head scarf and big gold earrings didn't seem to be even slightly missed.
Armed with several decks, Zelda used only the Healing with the Angels deck and the fabulous Halloween Tarot, which arrived in its own custom bag, complete with black cat bead.
I had the kidlets draw an angel card to start, which added focus and gave me time to shuffle. Then I had them knock two or three times on the deck, "like on a door", and I could feel their energy enter the cards. This is a really great method that cuts down on shuffle time, card wear, etc., let's me really keep things moving, and yet let's them participate a little more, in a fun way. I dont' generally bother with having a querent shuffle, but could really sense their energy at work, and it was fun.
Reading for these kids was a joy! And I have to say, all night, all the readings seemed to be so accurate and easy. Probably because I was so relaxed and ready to have fun, as were they. Reminder to self: fret not about readings, and things work themselves out.
They had so much fun, and I wish you could have seen their faces when I'd ask a question, like: Ok, we're talking about a situation in your life right now where you are waiting...there's something you've been having to wait for...and a little face would light up, and they'd know exactly what I was talking about. Some wanted to keep the subject a secret and would impishly grin.
A couple of parents sat in. A couple of parents had readings.
One 13-year old was with me for 30 minutes...only 13 and already there are no workable solutions in her life. Yikes. Gonna be a hard road for her unless she takes the first express bus out of Victimhood... She's one of those big kids who looks like she's about 16-20, and wants to play football in high school, to add to the roster of other sports she plays. Her (guy) friends have ditched her in an expected gender separation at that age. Her disabled mother and gram rely too heavily on her and her 17 year old brother doesn't help enough.
There's a lot she doesn't get at 13, and yet things she has figured out, like being a bully doesn't make sense in her life...so she stopped. However no suggestion I gave her seemed workable to her. Mentally I was saying "Help me guides, help me, angels"....I mean, I had to end the reading, but she had some serious issues, esp. in the past, and was a kid who few would see as a kid. I finally realized that this reading was just one of the first messages she would get about how to improve things, the kind that accumulate over time. It was hard not to be the one where she has that 'aha' moment, but she seems to be a talented kid, and I'm sure she'll have that aha moment someday.
Otherwise, things were primarily light...or at least easy, I should say. Because Zelda was there for entertainment, but these kids came for sincere answers. From about age 5 on up...one felt guilty because his friend and gramma both died last year and he isn't feeling as sad anymore.
The 9-ish-year-old brother of another boy who died came as well, second year in a row, as did his gram. Things were getting better for him but he'd been feeling overburdened lately, and needed to share a little more with his parents, who weren't aware of the depth of his feelings.
A gorgeous night in the cold, under a tent in the Massachusetts autumn, in the middle of the high school football field, with fireworks, my annual Portuguese pork sandwich and a krispy kreme donut imported from Connecticut.
A nice, low pressure, fun experience, the 3 of pents I drew later explained that I was just honing my craft...exercising my abilities. With cute kids who were so receptive.
The one confusing moment came when a kid of 8 in a costume with long hair sat down. Could have been male or female. No problem; I knew how to figure that out.
"What's your name?"
"Sam."
Oh.
Anyway, it was a great night, and I look forward to year three next October...another Fall tradition.

That was a lovely story Madam Zelda, thank you for sharing it, I liked you focused on the children readings, I 've an ethical conflict whether reading for children or not altough I'd love to do that.

LOL!!!! :D:D:D
Thanks for sharing that.....sounds like you had a wonderful night and everyone got something positive from the experience. Even though you may not have given the 13-year-old her "aha" moment, you at least got her to talk about some serious issues, and that is at least a starting point....you may have had more of an impact on her than you realize.

SongDeva: Especially like the attention accorded the wee ones & impressed with the repeat young clients.
Kudos to their parent/family member for being so open-minded. Also very wise to expose them early to the cards in a positive manner.
