I just bought a new deck, and will be grateful for all feedback on
HOW TO "INITIATE AND CLEAN" THE DECK
in other words, good ways to make it/me feel that its realy mine :)
Thanks DewDrop

If you bought the deck "new", then you probably don't need to clean it. One initiation procedure would be to look at all the cards, one by one, and familiarize yourself with their meanings. Shuffle the deck thoroughly, and begin to read for yourself. Others will probably answer with more procedures, but that's all I do.

My routine is similar to Gerbear's. Look through all the cards carefully, shuffle the deck for a while and and do a reading or two.
If the deck is used, you might want to bless it.

Korleis har du det ~ snakkar du engelsk?
One way to liberate a new deck of cards from their set order,
to free them to breathe and become completely randomised,
is to smooth the top sheets on your bed and deal them out,
slowly flipping them one by one down onto the bed covers,
and then gently gather handfuls together, and let them fall~
howsoever they will, over and over, like magical golden coins.
And when you feel right, when you're done and they're ready,
put them back together like a deck, back into a neat square,
and then sit down and put them all back facing the right way.
It's like letting the cards run barefoot through a grassy field,
laughing and singing ~ they'll know they're home with you!

I do the same as Marion and Gerbear but I also waft the cards through some incense such as frankinsense or lavender while I'm burning a candle this procedure is good for a used deck, but also if you have used the cards for awhile and they seem to give you off readings or are not very accurate anymore, you can also put some amethyst or clear quartz in with your cards as these particular 2 are good at getting rid of negative energies and some other crystals help with the clarity of your readings too, which I myself didn't belive until I tried it! good luck!

I never really feel the need to cleanse a deck so I don't - this is something personal.
I cannot (or don't feel inclined to) read with a new deck so I just first go through all the images, check if all the cards are there and then start sorting the cards. I usually take out the cards that appeal to me most to study them or I lay them out according to number or suit or whatever I feel like. I just play with the cards a bit, get used to them until I just feel it is right to read with them. And some decks I never read with but use for something else like meditation.

I put a new deck on the floor to ground it, swirl all the cards around to mix them, then restack, shuffle well. I do a 3 card reading (of any kind) just to say "let's talk" and see how clearly the deck and I can communicate. Some are right on my wavelength, others take some translating.
