Cleansing your deck

Is there any order that one cleanses their deck? What is the significance of placing your deck in a velvet bag or under your pillow for two nights? Thank you.

Hi verthosand, Welcome to the forums. How and when and why to cleanse and clean your deck is a popular topic around here. Here are a couple of hreads to help you out here and here Cleansing is a personal choice, some feel they need to others do not. I personally feel, better safe than sorry...lol so I smudge with sage sometimes and sometimes I feel that shuffling is enough.

My own basic method of "cleansing" is very simple: a few sharp taps with the side of the deck on the reading surface(usually a wooden table), and then a very thorough shuffling...as though the deck were new and had never been shuffled before! That is normally it. Unless...like this past weekend...we have a full moon. Then the idea of placing the deck in the moonlight(on the windowsill, for example) has a certain selenian appeal. Call me a romantic fool on these, but there are ancient roots to both of these ideas, and with more than tarot decks. Happy cleansing!

burn sage, it cleans your environment, your deck and aura of all negative energy, but remember to turn of the firealarm cuz the smoke can get intense ;)

Sometimes if I really feel the need -- a series of throws that were on topics less than pleasant, I will reorder my deck as if it were new, tap it sharply on the long side on a table and shuffle the heck out of it, making quarter turns every once in awhile....If I feel some really yucky energy with a spread or querent, I will reorder the deck and store it for a while and use another deck. I did have a deck once that I simply couldn't shake the negative energy and ended up getting rid of it..... I think its just choice....
