I'm teaching How to use tarot in my class for english. It's an assignement we have in that class to get up and teach a subject. (I'm in college tobecome a teacher)
I typed out a sheet of basic myths and facts about the tarot cards Does anyone have anymore I may have forgotten?
So far i have:
Myth: Tarot cards are evil
Fact: Tarot cards hold no supernatural powers on their own and are not evil. All cards were by the church banned after card playing/Gambling became a problem in the 13th century.
Myth: If the death card shows up it means that I will die.
Fact: No! Death signifies a change in ones life. It symbolizes the fact that nobody can hide from change just as death reaches us all at some point in our lives.
Myth: Tarot cards can tell me my exact future with no flaws
Fact: Tarot is a tool to tell a possible outcome and give guidance on a situation. Nothing is ever set in stone.
Myth: Someone has to buy my first tarot deck and give it to me as a gift
Fact: If it were true I would have waited forever for a deck. It is better to examine all the cards and the designs to see which one suits you more and to see which has more meaning to you. However, it’s not a crime to get one as a gift.
Anymore?

Myth : Tarot decks must be wrapped in black silk to keep dark/evil energies away from the cards.
Fact : Tarot decks can be stored in any fabric (or none at all), wooden boxes, or just the cardboard box it came it. Dark/evil energies are not waiting to pounce on your cards if you don’t wrap them in black silk.
Myth : You must never, ever let anyone else touch your cards.
Fact : If you are comfortable with people touching your cards, then there’s no problem (unless they have dirty hands). Other people won’t ruin your deck and make it stop working for you.
Myth : You must not read for yourself.
Fact : You can read for yourself. There is no reason why you can’t consult the cards for yourself. There is no reason that you must seek out another reader (unless you feel too close to the issue, and want an outside opinion).
Myth : Tarot cards channel demons and using cards can open you up to possession.
Fact : Tarot cards are pieces of cardboard with ink. They are not portals to Hades. Reading with them will not invoke nor summon demons.
Myth : You can’t read for people under the age of 18.
Fact : If you feel comfortable with reading for people under 18, there is no reason why you can’t.
Myth : You cannot charge for readings, because your tarot reading ability should be shared freely with others.
Fact : If your hairdresser or mechanic can charge for their time and effort in providing you a service, why can’t you charge for a reading? If you feel that your time is valuable, and that the service you provide is worth money, there is nothing wrong with charging clients.
Good luck with your assignment SeraphSarah!

There was a myth when I was a kid that the Tarot cards
were based on the life of an ancient pirate's adventures.
Sometimes I still find myself thinking of the Barbary Coast.

This is a good thread. I've heard most of those myths at one time or another. Never really did believe them though. Might come in handing knowing this info when talking with some people.

Here is kind of an anti-myth myth :
Myth:
Tarot is good for everybody and nothing strange will happen if you work with the cards.
Fact:
Not entirely true in every case. Using any form of divination can awaken you psychically and/or possibly stir up wanted or unwanted interaction with discarnate entities in your environment. This will not happen to everyone, but people should be aware that it might.
---------------------------------------
Here is a really popular myth . It's a myth to me, but not to everybody:
Myth:
You keep buying dozens of decks until one finally "works for you" .
Fact:
It's you that's "not working."
---------------------------------------
Here is a myth I refuse to believe:
Myth: You can have too many decks.
Fact: NO! Stop saying that - go away !!
